Anisotropy and interaction effects of strongly strained SrIrO3 thin films
Magneto-transport properties of SrIrO thin films epitaxially grown on
SrTiO, using reactive RF sputtering, are investigated. A large anisotropy
between the in-plane and the out-of-plane resistivities is found, as well as a
signature of the substrate cubic to tetragonal transition. Both observations
result from the structural distortion associated to the epitaxial strain. The
low-temperature and field dependences of the Hall number are interpreted as due
to the contribution of Coulomb interactions to weak localization, evidencing
the strong correlations in this material. The introduction of a contribution
from magnetic scatters, in the analysis of magnetoconductance in the weakly
localized regime, is proposed as an alternative to an anomalously large
temperature dependence of the Land\'{e} coefficient
Binary Stellar Population Synthesis Model
Using Yunnan evolutionary population synthesis (EPS) models, we present
integrated colours, integrated spectral energy distributions (ISEDs) and
absorption-line indices defined by the Lick Observatory image dissector scanner
(Lick/IDS) system, for an extensive set of instantaneous-burst binary stellar
populations (BSPs) with interactions. By comparing the results for populations
with and without interactions we show that the inclusion of binary interactions
makes the appearance of the population substantially bluer. This effect raises
the derived age and metallicity of the population.
To be used in the studies of modern spectroscopic galaxy surveys at
intermediate/high spectral resolution, we also present intermediate- (3A) and
high-resolution (~0.3A) ISEDs and Lick/IDS absorption-line indices for BSPs. To
directly compare with observations the Lick/IDS absorption indices are also
presented by measuring them directly from the ISEDs.Comment: 2 pages 2 figure
QED Penguin Contributions To Isospin Splittings of Heavy-Light Quark Systems
Recent experiments show that the isospin-violating mass splitting of the B
mesons is very small, but the best fits with a QCD sum rule analysis give a
splitting of at least 1.0 MeV. The isospin-violating mass splittings of the
charmed mesons, on the other hand, are in agreement with experiment. In this
letter we show that the inclusion of 2 kind QED penguin diagrams can
account for this discrepancy within the errors in the QCD sum rule method.Comment: 9 pages, latex, 2 figure
Evolving small-world networks with geographical attachment preference
We introduce a minimal extended evolving model for small-world networks which
is controlled by a parameter. In this model the network growth is determined by
the attachment of new nodes to already existing nodes that are geographically
close. We analyze several topological properties for our model both
analytically and by numerical simulations. The resulting network shows some
important characteristics of real-life networks such as the small-world effect

Current dependent fluctuations in a BiSrCuO thin film
The current dependence of the excess conductivity is measured up to for a BiSrCuO thin film, as a function of doping. It
is found to be anomalously sensitive to the transport current and to behave as
a universal function of in the whole doping range. We discuss these
results in the perspective of a granular superconductor with a gapless-like
behavior
Binary interactions and UV photometry on photometric redshift
Using the Hyperz code (Bolzonella et al. 2000) we present photometric
redshift estimates for a random sample of galaxies selected from the SDSS/DR7
and GALEX/DR4, for which spectroscopic redshifts are also available.
We confirm that the inclusion of ultraviolet photometry improves the accuracy
of photo-zs for those galaxies with g*-r* < 0.7 and z_spec < 0.2. We also
address the problem of how binary interactions can affect photo-z estimates,
and find that their effect is negligible.Comment: 2 pages 1 figure
Critical exponents of the two-layer Ising model
The symmetric two-layer Ising model (TLIM) is studied by the corner transfer
matrix renormalisation group method. The critical points and critical exponents
are calculated. It is found that the TLIM belongs to the same universality
class as the Ising model. The shift exponent is calculated to be 1.773, which
is consistent with the theoretical prediction 1.75 with 1.3% deviation.Comment: 7 pages, with 10 figures include
