    This article describes an overview of what Big Data is and explains how it transforms the manufacturing industry. First, this article defines what Big Data means for the manufacturing industry. It explains four advantages about Big Data analytics and their benefits to manufacturing. Then, it describes about what ethical issues of Big Data are. Next, it discusses more deeply about the ethical issues of Big Data in manufacturing with both individual and organizational perspectives. Finally, this article sums up with some principles to show the ethical governance of the interests of Big Data stakeholders

    The construction of production performance prediction system for semiconductor manufacturing with artificial neural networks

    [[abstract]]The major performance measurements for wafer fabrication system comprise WIP level, throughput and cycle time. These measurements are influenced by various factors, including machine breakdown, operator absence, poor dispatching rules, emergency order and material shortage. Generally, production managers use the WIP level profile of each stage to identify an abnormal situation, and then make corrective actions. However, such a measurement is reactive, not proactive. Proactive actions must effectively predict the future performance, analyze the abnormal situation, and then generate corrective actions to prevent performance from degrading. This work systematically constructs artificial neural network models to predict production performances for a semiconductor manufacturing factory. An application for a local DRAM wafer fabrication has demonstrated the accuracy of neural network models in predicting production performances

    Learning marketing in a multicultural context: a pedagogical case study

    There has been an increasing degree of internationalization of several higher education institutions mainly under the ERASMUS context. Those mobility programs bring important gains in terms of students’ competences to the Higher Education Institutions and to the employers, but there are also many constraints associated with the student’s mobility process. The Setubal Brand Management is a multicultural pedagogical project that also promotes interpersonal skills and encourages a greater integration in the region and with local students. It includes students with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. In this chapter, several specific pedagogical approaches were taken into account, such as: development of specific contents; implementation of different team-building actions; the inclusion of facilitating elements of communication; and the constitution of multicultural groups. A critical analysis of student perceptions and the sharing of the project with colleagues and with the academic community allowed implementation of several improvements.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    A novel genetic marker of the ovomucoid gene associated with hatchability in Tsaiya ducks (Anas platyrhynchos)

    Transcriptome analysis using a cDNA microarray was performed to identify differentially expressed genes that are correlated with hatchability, and a new PCR-RFLP marker of high hatchability among the identified genes was observed. We used the cDNA microarray technique for gene expression profiling of the magnum epithelium of laying Tsaiya ducks, and several regulated genes associated with hatchability were found. The results of real-time PCR and Western blotting analysis confirmed that the mRNA and protein levels of ovomucoid in the magnum epithelium of animals in the low-hatchability group were significantly higher than the levels in the high-hatchability group ( P < 0.05). Primers TovF1 and TovR1, designed according to the ovomucoid EST sequence, were used to amplify genomic DNA samples of different individual Tsaiya ducks, and sequence analysis of the amplified DNA products showed deletion among the ducks from the low-hatchability group. Primers TovF2 and TovR2 were used to perform PCR-RFLP analysis on the amplified DNA products to classify the ducks into +/+, +/- and -/- genotypes. The animals of +/+ and +/- genotypes were identified as having significantly higher hatchability than those of the -/- genotype ( P < 0.05). In contrast, no differences were observed between genotypes in terms of fertility, duration of fertility, egg weight or total number of eggs. Our results indicated that a novel PCR-RFLP marker of high hatchability, an ovomucoid gene polymorphism, can be used as a genetic marker for marker-assisted selection to improve hatchability in Tsaiya ducks
