    O estudo teve por objetivo conhecer e analisar o significado da realização do teste anti-HIV no pré-natal para as gestantes. Trata-se de uma pesquisa com abordagem qualitativa e foi realizada em um Hospital Escola e em uma Maternidade do município do Rio de Janeiro. Como recurso técnico-metodológico utilizou-se o discurso do sujeito coletivo (DSC). Após a análise dos discursos verificamos que para as gestantes a realização do teste significa a possibilidade de prevenir a transmissão vertical do HIV e como parte da assistência pré-natal. O pré-natal foi considerado pelas gestantes uma excelente oportunidade para a realização do teste anti HIV, para o conhecimento da condição sorológica e início precoce do tratamento. Conclui-se que o teste, para a maioria das gestantes, representa a possibilidade de proteger o filho do HIV, além de fazer parte da construção do papel materno a partir de um cuidado concreto com a saúde do bebê.<br>El estudio que tenía para que el objetivo sepa y analice el significado de la realización del anti-VIH de la prueba en el prenatal para las mujeres embarazadas. Uno está sobre una investigación con acercamiento cualitativo y fue ejecutado en una escuela del hospital y una maternidad de la ciudad de Rio de Janeiro. Como recurso técnico-metodológico el discurso del ciudadano colectivo fue utilizado (DSC). Después de que el análisis de los discursos, nosotros verificamos que para las mujeres embarazadas la realización de la prueba significa la posibilidad para prevenir la transmisión vertical del VIH y como parte de la ayuda prenatal. El prenatal era considerado por las mujeres embarazadas una ocasión excelente para la realización del anti VIH de la prueba, para el conocimiento de la condición sorological y del principio precoz del tratamiento. Se concluye que la prueba, para la mayoría de las mujeres embarazadas, representa la posibilidad para proteger al hijo del VIH, más allá de ser parte de la construcción del papel maternal de un cuidado bien-tomado del concreto con la salud del bebé.<br>The study had as objective, the knowledge and the analyzis of the meaning of the accomplishment for the test anti-HIV in the prenatal one for the pregnant women. One is about a research with qualitative approach and was carried through in a Hospital School and a Maternity at the city of Rio de Janeiro. As a resource of technician-methodological, the speech of the collective citizen was used (DSC). After the analysis of the speeches we verified that, for the pregnant women the accomplishment of the test means the possibility to prevent the vertical transmission of the HIV and as part of the prenatal assistance. The prenatal one was considered by the pregnant women an excellent chance for the accomplishment of the test anti HIV, for the knowledge of the serological condition and precocious beginning of the treatment. It is concluded that the test, for the majority of the pregnant women, represents the possibility to protect the son of the HIV, beyond being part of the construction of the maternal paper from a well-taken care of concrete with the health of the baby

These traits allow plants to show high carbon assimilation capacity. However, under encroachment, reduced light availability may act as a filter on traits of plants established under typical savanna conditions. Here we studied morpho-physiological traits of species exclusively found in typical and forested savanna conditions to evaluate how encroachment selects for specific leaf traits in such environments. We also evaluated if species occurring in distinct encroached situations would show plasticity to deal with light variations. We studied two species exclusively found in typical savanna (TS, open condition), two species exclusively found in forested savanna (FS, encroached condition) and two species growing along a gradient of tree encroachment (typical, dense and forested savanna). We measured specific leaf area (SLA), maximum photosynthetic rate in an area basis (Amax), stomatal conductance (gs), water use efficiency (WUE), leaf carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) concentrations. We found that herbaceous species exclusively found in TS possess higher Amax, gs, WUE and C in comparison with plants from forested savanna. Such strategies are necessary to thrive under environments with elevated irradiances. In turn, species from FS showed elevated SLA and foliar N concentration, strategies linked to capture diffuse light in forested environments. Species capable of thriving in sites with distinct degrees of encroachment changed their leaf traits according with light availability. We conclude that differences in leaf traits between typical and forested savanna species may explain the non-occurrence of typical savanna species when their environment become encroached. Only those species capable of showing a certain degree of plasticity may survive under such distinct encroached states

    Landforms and soil attributes determine the vegetation structure in the Brazilian semiarid

    The semiarid region of Brazil consists of a great variety of landscapes, soils and vegetation forms, with complex interrelations. In order to better understand this interplay, we posed two questions: Are there greater pedological similarities among the different landforms of the same catena or among the same landforms from different catenas? Which soil attributes could be the most important to segregate communities of plants? We sampled soils and vegetation on different landforms in four different catenas and performed NMS (non-metric multidimensional scaling) and ANOVA (analysis of variance) to address the first question; also, we carried another NMS following GLM (general linear model regression) to answer the second question. The first NMS indicated the existence of a fertility gradient, grouping communities in relation to similar landforms, confirmed by ANOVA. The second NMS indicated the same gradient whereas the GLM showed that is controlled by aluminum saturation, sodium saturation, phosphorous and sand content. One extreme of the gradient has uplands associated with cerrado vegetation forms whereas the other extreme slopes were associated with dry forests. The lowlands associated with dry forest represent the central position of the fertility gradient. In general, soils at similar landforms showed greater pedological similarity, and their physico-chemical attributes determined the formation and structure of vegetation. This similarity across the same landform refers to the comparable soil formation at each landform and soil age at landscape scale.     Data collected by the Urban Predation Risk Network about predation pressure on dummy caterpillars exposed for eight days in 26 small green spaces and 24 forest patches across 26 Brazilian state capitals. The raw predation data describes the type of predator and the day in which each caterpillar was found with marks, as well as the sites' coordinates. The environmental data provides information for each site about precipitation, annual mean temperature, temperature seasonality, elevation, and coordinates. This database also provides summarized information about predation at each site, such as the total number of attacked caterpillars and the number of attacked caterpillars by each predator group. The data files contain a metadata sheet with a description of each column. The code provided was used to assess the local and large-scale drivers of predation pressure on dummy caterpillars in small green spaces and forest patches across 26 Brazilian cities

    Estimation of the global prevalence of dementia in 2019 and forecasted prevalence in 2050: an analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019

    BACKGROUND: Given the projected trends in population ageing and population growth, the number of people with dementia is expected to increase. In addition, strong evidence has emerged supporting the importance of potentially modifiable risk factors for dementia. Characterising the distribution and magnitude of anticipated growth is crucial for public health planning and resource prioritisation. This study aimed to improve on previous forecasts of dementia prevalence by producing country-level estimates and incorporating information on selected risk factors. METHODS: We forecasted the prevalence of dementia attributable to the three dementia risk factors included in the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019 (high body-mass index, high fasting plasma glucose, and smoking) from 2019 to 2050, using relative risks and forecasted risk factor prevalence to predict GBD risk-attributable prevalence in 2050 globally and by world region and country. Using linear regression models with education included as an additional predictor, we then forecasted the prevalence of dementia not attributable to GBD risks. To assess the relative contribution of future trends in GBD risk factors, education, population growth, and population ageing, we did a decomposition analysis. FINDINGS: We estimated that the number of people with dementia would increase from 57·4 (95% uncertainty interval 50·4-65·1) million cases globally in 2019 to 152·8 (130·8-175·9) million cases in 2050. Despite large increases in the projected number of people living with dementia, age-standardised both-sex prevalence remained stable between 2019 and 2050 (global percentage change of 0·1% [-7·5 to 10·8]). We estimated that there were more women with dementia than men with dementia globally in 2019 (female-to-male ratio of 1·69 [1·64-1·73]), and we expect this pattern to continue to 2050 (female-to-male ratio of 1·67 [1·52-1·85]). There was geographical heterogeneity in the projected increases across countries and regions, with the smallest percentage changes in the number of projected dementia cases in high-income Asia Pacific (53% [41-67]) and western Europe (74% [58-90]), and the largest in north Africa and the Middle East (367% [329-403]) and eastern sub-Saharan Africa (357% [323-395]). Projected increases in cases could largely be attributed to population growth and population ageing, although their relative importance varied by world region, with population growth contributing most to the increases in sub-Saharan Africa and population ageing contributing most to the increases in east Asia. INTERPRETATION: Growth in the number of individuals living with dementia underscores the need for public health planning efforts and policy to address the needs of this group. Country-level estimates can be used to inform national planning efforts and decisions. Multifaceted approaches, including scaling up interventions to address modifiable risk factors and investing in research on biological mechanisms, will be key in addressing the expected increases in the number of individuals affected by dementia.     Search for the associated production of charm quarks and a Higgs boson decaying into a photon pair with the ATLAS detector

    A search for the production of a Higgs boson and one or more charm quarks, in which the Higgs boson decays into a photon pair, is presented. This search uses proton-proton collision data with a centre-of-mass energy of s = 13 TeV and an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1 recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The analysis relies on the identification of charm-quark-containing jets, and adopts an approach based on Gaussian process regression to model the non-resonant di-photon background. The observed (expected, assuming the Standard Model signal) upper limit at the 95% confidence level on the cross-section for producing a Higgs boson and at least one charm-quark-containing jet that passes a fiducial selection is found to be 10.6 pb (8.8 pb). The observed (expected) measured cross-section for this process is 5.3 ± 3.2 pb (2.9 ± 3.1 pb)
