Postsettlement growth of two estuarine crab species, Chasmagnathus granulata and Cyrtograpsus angulatus (Crustacea, Decapoda, Grapsidae): laboratory and field observations
The estuarine grapsid crabs Chasmagnathus granulata and Cyrtograpsus angulatus belong to the most typical and dominant inhabitants of brackish coastal lagoons in southeastern South America. In a combined laboratory and field investigation of juvenile growth, we measured the increase in body size in these species under controlled conditions as well as in field experiments (in Mar Chiquita lagoon, Argentina), seasonal changes in size frequency distribution of a natural population, and growth related changes in selected morphometric traits of male and female juveniles (relations between carapace width, carapace length, propodus height and length of the cheliped, and pleon width). At 24°C, Cy. angulatus grew faster than Ch. granulata; it reached the crab-9 instar (C9; 13 mm carapace width) after 92 days, while Ch. granulata required 107 days to reach the C8 instar (7.4 mm). At 12°C, growth ceased in both species. The pleon begins to show sexual differences in the C5 (Cy. angulatus) and C8 instar (Ch. granulata), respectively, while the chelae differentiate earlier in Ch. granulata than in Cy. angulatus (in C4 vs C6). In the field, growth was maximal in summer, and was generally faster than in laboratory cultures. However, there is great individual variability in size (about 25% even in the first crab instar) and in size increments at ecdysis, increasing throughout juvenile growth. Our data indicate that, in the field, small-scale and short-term variations in feeding conditions, temperature, and salinity account for an extremely high degree of variability in the absolute and relative rates of growth as well as in the time to sexual differentiation
Resonant optical control of the structural distortions that drive ultrafast demagnetization in CrO
We study how the color and polarization of ultrashort pulses of visible light
can be used to control the demagnetization processes of the antiferromagnetic
insulator CrO. We utilize time-resolved second harmonic generation
(SHG) to probe how changes in the magnetic and structural state evolve in time.
We show that, varying the pump photon-energy to excite either localized
transitions within the Cr or charge transfer states, leads to markedly
different dynamics. Through a full polarization analysis of the SHG signal,
symmetry considerations and density functional theory calculations, we show
that, in the non-equilibrium state, SHG is sensitive to {\em both} lattice
displacements and changes to the magnetic order, which allows us to conclude
that different excited states couple to phonon modes of different symmetries.
Furthermore, the spin-scattering rate depends on the induced distortion,
enabling us to control the timescale for the demagnetization process. Our
results suggest that selective photoexcitation of antiferromagnetic insulators
allows fast and efficient manipulation of their magnetic state.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure

Articulación entre la formación de grado y posgrado en el primer nivel de atención, en el marco de una estrategia de atención primaria integral : análisis en dos escenarios: Ciudad de Buenos Aires y Municipio Rosario
En los últimos años se incrementaron los recursos humanos, económicos y de
infraestructura asignados al primer nivel de atención. Esta situación obedeció a distintas lógicas, configurando variados modelos de atención y de formación de posgrado en Argentina.
Esta investigación se propuso analizar la dinámica de la articulación entre la formación de grado y las residencias en el primer nivel de atención, en el marco de una estrategia de atención primaria en dos escenarios: Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires y Municipio Rosario.
Se trata de un estudio exploratorio y descriptivo de corte transversal basado en fuentes secundarias, complementado con un abordaje cualitativo que recupera la perspectiva de los principales actores involucrados en la dinámica formación-trabajo en los centros de APS.
El estudio se orientó a analizar la formación en APS, a partir de los diseños curriculares de las carreras de grado y posgrado, qué habilidades se proponen enseñar, en qué ámbitos y con qué estrategias pedagógicas, de la revisión de fuentes secundarias y de testimonios de los actores involucrados en el proceso.
Los resultados constituyen un valioso insumo para el diseño y ajuste de dispositivos de formación con enfoque de APS. Aún cuando se registran avances en las reflexiones respecto de las características del aprendizaje, no se visualizan todavía impactos significativos en las prácticas. La formación en los espacios de trabajo debe ser complementada con otras decisiones político - organizacionales que faciliten la incorporación de prácticas transformadoras, a partir de la reflexión crítica sobre los modos de resolución que se plantean

Precision measurements of the total and partial widths of the psi(2S) charmonium meson with a new complementary-scan technique in antiproton-proton annihilations
We present new precision measurements of the psi(2S) total and partial widths
from excitation curves obtained in antiproton-proton annihilations by Fermilab
experiment E835 at the Antiproton Accumulator in the year 2000. A new technique
of complementary scans was developed to study narrow resonances with
stochastically cooled antiproton beams. The technique relies on precise
revolution-frequency and orbit-length measurements, while making the analysis
of the excitation curve almost independent of machine lattice parameters. We
study the psi(2S) meson through the processes pbar p -> e+ e- and pbar p ->
J/psi + X -> e+ e- + X. We measure the width to be Gamma = 290 +- 25(sta) +-
4(sys) keV and the combination of partial widths Gamma_e+e- * Gamma_pbarp /
Gamma = 579 +- 38(sta) +- 36(sys) meV, which represent the most precise

Measurement of the Time-Dependent CP Asymmetry of Partially Reconstructed B0->D*+D*- Decays
We present a new measurement of the time-dependent CP asymmetry of B0->D*+D*-
decays using (471+-5) million BBbar pairs collected with the BaBar detector at
the PEP-II B Factory at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Using the
technique of partial reconstruction, we measure the time-dependent CP asymmetry
parameters S=-0.34+-0.12+-0.05$ and C=+0.15+-0.09+-0.04. Using the value for
the CP-odd fraction R_perp=0.158+-0.028+-0.006, previously measured by BaBar
with fully reconstructed B0->D*+D*- events, we extract the CP-even components
S+=-0.49+-0.18+-0.07+-0.04 and C+=+0.15+-0.09+-0.04. In each case, the first
uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic; the third uncertainty
on S+ is the contribution from the uncertainty on R_perp. The measured value of
the CP-even component S+ is consistent with the value of sin(2Beta) measured in
b->(ccbar)s transitions, and with the Standard Model expectation of small

Measurement of B(B-->X_s {\gamma}), the B-->X_s {\gamma} photon energy spectrum, and the direct CP asymmetry in B-->X_{s+d} {\gamma} decays
The photon spectrum in B --> X_s {\gamma} decay, where X_s is any strange
hadronic state, is studied using a data sample of (382.8\pm 4.2) \times 10^6
e^+ e^- --> \Upsilon(4S) --> BBbar events collected by the BABAR experiment at
the PEP-II collider. The spectrum is used to measure the branching fraction B(B
--> X_s \gamma) = (3.21 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.29 \pm 0.08)\times 10^{-4} and the
first, second, and third moments = 2.267 \pm 0.019 \pm 0.032 \pm
0.003 GeV,, )^2> = 0.0484 \pm 0.0053 \pm 0.0077 \pm
0.0005 GeV^2, and )^3> = -0.0048 \pm 0.0011 \pm 0.0011
\pm 0.0004 GeV^3, for the range E_\gamma > 1.8 GeV, where E_{\gamma} is the
photon energy in the B-meson rest frame. Results are also presented for
narrower E_{\gamma} ranges. In addition, the direct CP asymmetry A_{CP}(B -->
X_{s+d} \gamma) is measured to be 0.057 \pm 0.063. The spectrum itself is also
unfolded to the B-meson rest frame; that is the frame in which theoretical

Measurement of CP Asymmetries and Branching Fractions in Charmless Two-Body B-Meson Decays to Pions and Kaons
We present improved measurements of CP-violation parameters in the decays
, , and , and of
the branching fractions for and . The
results are obtained with the full data set collected at the
resonance by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy factory
at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, corresponding to
million pairs. We find the CP-violation parameter values and
branching fractions where in each case, the first uncertainties are statistical
and the second are systematic. We observe CP violation with a significance of
6.7 standard deviations for and 6.1 standard deviations for
, including systematic uncertainties. Constraints on the
Unitarity Triangle angle are determined from the isospin relations
among the rates and asymmetries. Considering only the solution
preferred by the Standard Model, we find to be in the range
