The use of antigravity suits in the treatment of idiopathic orthostatic hypotension
Idiopathic orthostatic hypotension is an uncommon disease characterized by a drop in blood pressure when going from a recumbent to a standing position. Treatment by medication generally produces poor results. Three patients at the Royal Hospital in Oslo were treated with antigravity suits and all were able to maintain adequate blood pressures in the standing position. One patient improved dramatically and was able to take short walks while wearing the suit. The two other patients, however, felt that wearing the suits eventually became uncomfortable. This treatment represents a useful treatment alternative for intractable cases
The use of anti-gravity suits for the control of critical intra-abdominal hemmorhage
The history and use as well as the physiology of the use of antigravity suits for the control of critical intra-abdominal hemorrhages is reviewed. The use of this suit is highly recommended, especially for first aid
SHOULD WE DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN BUSINESS AND PRIVATE CUSTOMERS?
The literature on how customers make their service-provider choices largely distinguishes between private and business customers, and companies’ offerings have been separated accordingly. This study takes a closer look at the possible differences between these two customer categories. The results are explorative and based on both qualitative and quantitative studies focusing on customers’ actual behavior. The findings show that it is not only job-related aspects such as “being able to work” that influence business travel, and that private matters such as “time with the family” are clearly of equal significance in the choice situation. Price perception is important, but only when it is set against the appropriate social costs. The contradiction appears in the airlines’ offers to these customers, which are generally specifically job related. The results of the present study show that most business customers are, in fact, “private customers”.air travel, customer relationships, business-to-business relationships, preferences, choice, service
Resilient internetwork routing over heterogeneous mobile military networks
Mobile networks in the military tactical domain, include a range of radio networks with very diverse characteristics and which may be employed differently from operation to operation. When interconnecting networks with dissimilar characteristics (e.g. capacity, range, mobility) a difficult trade-off is to fully utilize the diverse network characteristics while minimizing the cost. To support the ever increasing requirements for future operations it is necessary to provide tools to quickly alter the rule-set during an ongoing operation, due to a change in operation and/or to support different needs. Our contribution is a routing protocol which targets these challenges. We propose an architecture to connect networks with different characteristics. One key point is that low capacity links/networks segments can be included in the heterogeneous network, these segments are protected from overload by controlling where and when signaling/data traffic is sent. The protocol supports traffic policing, including resource reservation. The other key point is the ability to quickly alter the network policy (rules-set) including QoS support during an operation or from operation to operation.author postprin
The impact of culture and sociological and psychological issues on Muslim patients with breast cancer in Pakistan
This is a non-final version of an article published in final form in Cancer Nursing, 32(4), 2009. The final published article is available from the link below.Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in Muslim women in Pakistan. The impact of the initial diagnosis, culture, religion, and psychosocial and psychological aspects of the disease is not well established. This qualitative study examined the experience and coping strategies used by patients with breast cancer in relation to its impact on their physical, mental health, religious, and family issues. Thirty patients with breast cancer were interviewed. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The patient's experience of breast cancer focused on the range of emotions felt throughout the illness trajectory, the importance of religion and family support on coping strategies used to manage the adverse effects of chemotherapy, and also the financial concerns. This is the first study to examine Pakistani Muslim women's views on the lived experience of breast cancer. This article provides clarification of the voiced experiences of women with breast cancer. The data not only highlight the role of religion and family support as essential coping strategies but also emphasize the issues of isolation, aggression, and anger as common responses to chemotherapy. Unique features of this study are women's need to seek spiritual support for their illness and the overriding innate characteristic of maternal responsibility. These cultural features require further analysis and research
Religion and development in a Norwegian context. A qualitative study of the identity of faith-based organizations and the relationship to their secular donor
In recent decades increased attention has been paid to the role of religion in development
and several academics have explored the nature of faith-based organizations (FBOs)
involved in development. The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad)
funds several FBOs which, through their partners, implement development projects in
Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Much of the literature on religion and development is focused on faith-based
organizations and the role they play, or should play, in development. FBOs are often
portrayed as unique and inherently different from secular NGOs. They have been praised
for their motivation, efficiency, and holistic approaches to development. Despite of this
there is also recognition of the heterogeneity in the category of FBOs. In this thesis I will
explore five Norwegian FBOs and attempt to find out how they, in different ways,
understand their faith-based identity. In conclusion I will propose a new typology of
FBOs that might help us to better understand their characteristics

Trust in public institutions, a comparative study of Botswana and Tanzania
This thesis concerns institutional trust in Botswana and Tanzania and seeks to test several variables' importance in determining individuals' trust. African countries have historically been somewhat neglected in trust research and these two countries have therefore been chosen as the cases of my study. Based on the cultural theories and institutional theories of trust I have selected socio-demographic factors, social capital, transparency, democratic satisfaction and policy performance as my independent variables. The analysis is based on survey data from Afrobarometer conducted in 2012. The findings in this thesis suggest that the cultural theories do little in explaining institutional trust as the socio-demographic and social capital variables do rather poorly. Institutional theories on the other hand do very well in explaining variations in trust in public institutions. The most determining variable in terms of individuals trust in public institutions seems to be the general policy performance of the government and individuals' approval of the President's performance.AORG350MASV-AOR
