This study determines the influence of library orientation on Central Luzon State University students’ utilization of information resources in the university library. A descriptive research method was used in this study, using the survey questionnaire technique. A Slovin’s formula was used to select the number of respondents. A total of 177 respondents were identified in this study. Percentage, mean, Pearson r, and regression were used to analyze and interpret the data. Findings show that students are very aware of the majority of the print resources. However, students are moderately aware of the electronic resources. It also reveals a direct relationship between awareness of information sources and utilization. The influence of library orientation can be explained by library visits and utilization of library resources. The paper suggests that library orientation be continued to educate students about the resources, with a focus on online resources and services for maximum utilization

The purpose of this study was to assess the level of library anxiety among freshmen students at Central Luzon State University (CLSU) in the Philippines in order to develop an appropriate library program to help alleviate their anxieties and increase library usage, thereby contributing to student academic success. The survey questionnaire was used to gather the necessary information. It was adapted and modified from the psychometric instrument by Bostick Library Anxiety Scale (LAS) to measure the library anxiety level of 342 respondents using the systematic sampling design technique. Cronbach\u27s alpha was calculated on the 57 statements. The test has strong reliability and validity, with a score of 0.921. In the statistical analysis, frequency, percent, mean, standard deviation, descriptive statistics, T-test, and (One-Way) ANOVA were utilized. The findings revealed that all factors, such as knowledge about the library, library regulations and policies, barriers with staff, affective barriers, information retrieval, comfort in using the library, and resource barriers, revealed mild levels of anxiety in the respondents. When library users are grouped based on their profile, such as age, sex, and frequency of library visits, they all exhibit the same level of anxiety. However, when it comes to information retrieval factors, males and females have significantly different mean scores. This suggests that men are more anxious than women. The factor comfort of use of the library also showed a significant difference in the frequency of library visits implying that freshmen students with higher levels of library anxiety visit the library and use library services less frequently. The study, therefore, suggested that librarians should be aware of the characteristics of anxious students and provide more anxiety-reduction strategies

The Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) program in the Philippines provides excellent employability due to its high demand in academia and other sectors. This study aimed to determine the viability of offering the Bachelor of Library and Information Science program at Central Luzon State University. The survey specifically sought to determine grade 11 students\u27 interest in enrolling in the program as well as its market employability in the academic sector in the region. Data were collected using a survey questionnaire from three public and three private neighboring high schools of Central Luzon State University as well as Google forms for higher education institutions. The data were described using the frequency count and percentage. SWOT analysis was also used to evaluate the institution\u27s advantage and capability to offer the program, as well as the program\u27s potential and direction. Findings present that the program is viable and the institution can sustain it. However, there are areas that should be strengthened and improved, as well as potential threats to the program\u27s continuation, such as a lack of awareness and poor performance on board examinations

The online public access catalog (OPAC) is a digital portal to the library's collection that allows users to search, locate, and access a wide range of academic resources. One of its key functions is to make books and other library materials easily accessible and retrievable. The main purpose of this study was to assess students’ awareness and use of the OPAC in the Central Luzon State University Library. The data were gathered using a survey questionnaire. The frequency, percentage, and weighted mean were analyzed, and the data was interpreted. The findings show that students widely use OPAC, though not all of them are aware of all of the functions that OPAC provides. Findings also indicate that a lack of proper orientation and a lack of OPAC terminals are the main reasons for not using the OPAC. The vast majority of students were satisfied with the OPAC. However, a small percentage of students remain dissatisfied with it. This insight is essential for libraries to better alter and tailor their systems, services, and instructional programs to suit their student population's evolving needs and technological expectations

This study primarily determined the utilization of various library services by teacher education students and their academic performance. The study covered the libraries of Central Luzon State University and Tarlac State University during the second semester of academic year 2018–2019. A survey questionnaire was utilized in gathering the needed data. Statistical analysis employed the use of the following: frequency counts, percentages, mean, standard deviation, Pearson r, and multiple linear regression. The majority of the teacher education students were found to have a very good grade point average from the previous semester. The father’s highest educational attainment showed a strong positive correlation with academic performance. On the contrary, the mother’s occupation and monthly family income had weak to moderate negative correlations. The perceived usefulness of using the library into the academic works by teacher education students revealed a moderate positive correlation. Library satisfaction was found to have a moderate positive correlation with students’ academic performance. Father’s educational attainment, utilization, and satisfaction with library services were found to be positive predictors of students’ academic performance. However, the mother’s occupation and monthly family income seemed not variable predictors of students’ academic performance in the context of library utilization.</jats:p

Assessment of the Library Collection of the Central Luzon State University Library: Basis of the Collection Development Program

    No full text
Objective – The collection assessment project of the University Library is significant in determining whether the quantity of the collection meets the regulatory standard of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for academic libraries. This study specifically sought to find the level of library collection compliance in terms of major subject courses, to determine the curricular programs that are compliant with the standard or have a high rate of compliance, and to identify the curricular programs that should be prioritized in acquiring additional book titles. Methods – The assessment was conducted using an action research model of iterative reflection and improvement. It follows the four steps for carrying out the research: plan, act, observe, and reflect, as proposed by Davidoff and Van den Berg (1990). Furthermore, we employed CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 22, Series of 2021, Section 4 (b.4-5) to analyze the collection's compliance based on its quantity. The data was presented using a table and percentage. Results – There are 32 undergraduate curricular programs offered at Central Luzon State University, which include 1,055 major subject courses. More than half of major subject courses (57.3%) on various curricular programs are non-compliant with CHED criteria, including 17.63% of major subject courses with zero titles copyrighted within the last five years. Findings also reveal that only 6 (18.75%) of the total programs were able to reach above 70% compliance with CHED standards, and there are 23 curricular programs with title gaps of 50% or higher that need to be prioritized in the acquisition of book titles. Conclusion – The library collection assessment technique is crucial for identifying gaps in the collection and determining areas where additional resources may be required. As the findings indicate that more than half of the major subject courses do not meet the requirements set by CHED, the librarians have been investigating ways to acquire additional academic sources to fill this gap. However, their current efforts are not yet enough to meet the requirements. A long-term plan for gradually building up the collection has been devised
