The chemical abundances were measured by instrumental and radiochemical neutron activation analysis in a variety of lunar specimens. Apollo 14 soils are characterized by significant enrichments of Al2O3, Na2O and K2O and depletions of TiO2, FeO, MnO and Cr2O3 relative to Apollo 11 and to most of Apollo 12 soils. The uniform abundances in 14230 core tube soils and three other Apollo 14 soils indicate that the regolith is uniform to at least 22 cm depth and within approximately 200 m from the lunar module. Two Luna 16 breccias are similar in composition to Luna 16 soils. Four Apollo 15 soils (LM, STA 4, 9, and 9a) have variable compositions. Interelement correlations between MnO-FeO, Sc-FeO, V-Cr2O3 and K2O-Hf negate the hypothesis that howardite achondrites may be primitive lunar matter, argue against the fission hypothesis for the origin of the moon, and precludes any selective large scale volatilization of alkalies during lunar magmatic events

Rakenduskõrgharidusõppe lõputöö Tehnotroonika õppekavalPneumobile Technics 5 on suruõhusõiduk, mis on ehitatud Emersoni poolt korraldatud „International Aventics Pneumobile Competition“ jaoks. Rakenduskõrgharidus lõputöö eesmärgiks on optimeerida pneumobile Technics 5 käigukasti. Käesoleva töö käigus vähendati käigukasti massi ja tõsteti üldist kasutegurit. Eesmärgi saavutamiseks otsiti vähendatud laiusega hammasratastele sobiv materjal. Sammuti muudeti käikude arvu ja ülekandesuhteid. Kasuteguri suurendamiseks vahetati liugelaagrid kuullaagrite vastu. Arvutuste põhjal projekteeriti optimeeritud käigukast. Optimeerimise tulemusena saavutati 10% massi vähenemine ja 5% kasuteguri suurenemine.Pneumobile Technics 5 is a compressed aircraft built for the International Aventics Pneumobile Competition organized by Emerson. The aim of the profesional higher education thesis is to optimize the pneumobile Technics 5 gearbox. In the course of this work, the weight of the gearbox was reduced and the overall efficiency was increased. To achieve this goal, a suitable material for reducedwidth gears was sought. The number of gears and gear ratios were also changed. To increase efficiency, plain bearings were replaced with ball bearings. Based on the calculations, an optimized gearbox was designed. The optimization resulted in a 10% weight reduction and a 5% increase in efficiency

Fetomaternal outcome and effect of ursodeoxycholic acid in patients of obstetric cholestasis

Background: The objective of this study was to determine fetomaternal outcome and effect of ursodeoxycholic acid in patients of obstetric cholestasis. Methods: This study was prospective observational descriptive study of 130 women, which was conducted in the department of obstetrics and gynaecology, Deen Dayal Upadhayay Hospital, New Delhi. Statistical analysis was performed using the z test when appropriate. A p value of <0.05 will be considered statistically significant. Results: Spontaneous onset of labour was present in 48.5% of patients, induction was done in 31.5% of patients and in rest 20% of patients LSCS was indicated. Normal vaginal delivery occurred in 97 of 130 patients while emergency LSCS done 33 of 130 patients. Emergency LSCS was done in 16 of 33 patients due to foetal distress. Pre-term delivery and PROM occurred in 8.5% and 9.2% of patients respectively while PPH occurred in 12.3% of patients. Among the 130 cases included in present study 34 patients (27.2%) had fetal distress, 41 patients (31.5%) had MSL and 40 neonates (32.0%) required NICU. 16 neonates out of 130 (12.8%) had birth weight below 2.5 kg. Apgar score was <7 after 5 min in 31 neonates. Conclusions: Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) is useful in relieving symptoms and decreasing the biochemical markers.

Prevalence of metabolic syndrome in women with polycystic ovary syndrome attending a tertiary care hospital in West Delhi, India

    Get PDF
Background: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).Methods: All the women attending the gynae out-patient department of our hospital were screened for polycystic ovary syndrome as diagnosed by the Rotterdam ESHRE/ASRM-sponsored PCOS consensus workshop group, 2004. Two hundred women with PCOS underwent screening for metabolic syndrome as defined by the national cholesterol education program adult treatment panel III (ATPIII) (2001) definition and the prevalence of metabolic syndrome was compared with two hundred age and BMI matched healthy control subjects. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was applied, and significant predictors identified for the prediction of metabolic syndrome. Results: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome among PCOS patients was 42 % in present study group as compared to 14 % in control group (p=0.01). The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was even higher in obese PCOS Vs non obese PCOS (52 % Vs 28.6 %). But even non-obese PCOS had higher prevalence of metabolic syndrome as compared to controls (28.6 % Vs 14 %).Conclusions: The study suggests a high prevalence of metabolic syndrome in patients with PCOS & thus it is important to screen all PCOS patients for manifestations of metabolic syndrome & its cardiovascular sequelae

The landscape of psychotherapy in Estonia : contemporary developments and future perspectives

Witnessing the sweeping socio-political changes in the Central and East Europe for more than a decade and the profound influence it has played and continues to play in lives of people as well as whole societies, precipitated the research idea to take a closer look at the situation of psychotherapy in one of those countries - Estonia. The article will describe current issues of the development of psychotherapy in Europe in general and touch upon the regulatory environment in Europe and especially in Central and East Europe and Estonia. The aim of the research was to describe the situation in psychotherapy in Estonia today, i.e. to understand the meaning of being a psychotherapist in the current social context. The three research themes were 1) a view of psychotherapy and psychotherapists by society, 2) trends in change of presenting problems and 3) the future of the field in the country as therapists see it. The study was carried out as a qualitative research with interviewing 14 psychotherapists in Estonia in summer 2001. A general picture emerged that the field is slowly becoming more visible in society although much is yet to be done. While individual people seem to gain better knowledge about what psychotherapy is and what it can achieve, the general "system" (i.e. the people from government agencies with power to decide and allocate finances) has difficulty in acknowledging the existence of the field. The most prominent change in presenting problems was the emergence of new issues that hardly were encountered a decade ago: drug addiction (also gambling) and eating disorders. An increase in report of depression and anxiety, substance abuse and relationship issues was found as predicted. In terms of future, therapists in general were optimistic. They predicted increase in awareness and valuing of the field in society and expressed concern for the lack of regulations in the field at the present time. They also expected an increased awareness and involvement of state in the field of psychotherapy in society.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 60-64)California State University, Northridge.
