An Introduction to 3D User Interface Design

3D user interface design is a critical component of any virtual environment (VE) application. In this paper, we present a broad overview of three-dimensional (3D) interaction and user interfaces. We discuss the effect of common VE hardware devices on user interaction, as well as interaction techniques for generic 3D tasks and the use of traditional two-dimensional interaction styles in 3D environments. We divide most user interaction tasks into three categories: navigation, selection/manipulation, and system control. Throughout the paper, our focus is on presenting not only the available techniques, but also practical guidelines for 3D interaction design and widely held myths. Finally, we briefly discuss two approaches to 3D interaction design, and some example applications with complex 3D interaction requirements. We also present an annotated online bibliography as a reference companion to this article

Relação entre terceiros molares inferiores e nervo alveolar inferior (NAI): revisão de literatura

Exodontias de terceiros molares são procedimentos comuns realizados por médicos dentistas, e apesar de rotineiro podem causar transtornos ou complicações trans e/ou pós operatórias. Vários fatores estão ligados às possíveis complicações, como idade e o grau de impactação do dente, em casos de terceiros molares inferiores, a sua íntima relação com o nervo alveolar inferior. Existem exames imaginológicos como radiografias e tomografias computadorizadas que podem ser utilizadas no pré-operatório a fim de auxiliar o medico dentista a estabelecer a relação entre essas estruturas, evitando futuros transtornos como a parestesia. Algumas técnicas cirúrgicas vêm sendo discutidas como métodos alternativos em casos onde há a hipótese de lesão do nervo. Este trabalho realiza uma revisão de literatura sobre o tema terceiros molares inferiores e suas relações com o nervo alveolar inferior, a fim de relacionar os riscos cirúrgicos com posicionamento do terceiro molar associando exames complementares com técnicas cirúrgicas, com o fim de prever possíveis complicações.Third molars extraction are common procedures performed by dentists, and despite frequency , it may cause trans and / or postoperative complications. Several factors are related to the possible complications, such as age and degree of impactation of the tooth, in cases of lower third molars, its intima relationship with the inferior alveolar nerve. There are imaging examinations such as x-rays and CT scans that can be used preoperatively to assist the dentist to establish the relationship between these structures, avoiding future disorders such as paresthesia. Some surgical techniques have been discussed as alternative methods in cases where there is a hypothesis of nerve damage. This paper presents a review of the literature on the third lower molar theme and its relationship with the inferior alveolar nerve, in order to relate the surgical risks with third molar positioning, associating complementary exams with surgical techniques, in order to predict possible complications

Code Park: A New 3D Code Visualization Tool

We introduce Code Park, a novel tool for visualizing codebases in a 3D game-like environment. Code Park aims to improve a programmer's understanding of an existing codebase in a manner that is both engaging and intuitive, appealing to novice users such as students. It achieves these goals by laying out the codebase in a 3D park-like environment. Each class in the codebase is represented as a 3D room-like structure. Constituent parts of the class (variable, member functions, etc.) are laid out on the walls, resembling a syntax-aware "wallpaper". The users can interact with the codebase using an overview, and a first-person viewer mode. We conducted two user studies to evaluate Code Park's usability and suitability for organizing an existing project. Our results indicate that Code Park is easy to get familiar with and significantly helps in code understanding compared to a traditional IDE. Uso potencial e toxidez da torta de pinhão-manso.

A expansão do cultivo do pinhão-manso é crescente, e vai de encontro com a necessidade do uso de fontes alternativas de óleo para a produção de biodiesel. O aproveitamento da torta de pinhão manso para a ração animal, da mesma forma como ocorre para o farelo de soja, geraria importante renda e viabilizaria economicamente a cultura. A torta, no entanto, possui diversos compostos tóxicos/antinutricinais, que devem ser mais bem conhecidos, tanto para questões de saúde pública quanto para que processos de destruição dos mesmos possam ser racionalmente desenvolvidos. O presente trabalho vem apresentar um levantamento dos casos de intoxicação pela planta e seu tratamento atual, dando uma visão realista e sem alarmismo dos riscos. The 183-WSL Fast Rain Rate Retrieval Algorithm. Part II: Validation Using Ground Radar Measurements

The Water vapour Strong Lines at 183 GHz (183-WSL) algorithm is a method for the retrieval of rain rates and precipitation type classification (convectivestratiform), that makes use of the water vapor absorption lines centered at 183.31 GHz of the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit module B (AMSU-B) and of the Microwave Humidity Sounder (MHS) flying on NOAA-15-18 and NOAA-19Metop-A satellite series, respectively. The characteristics of this algorithm were described in Part I of this paper together with comparisons against analogous precipitation products. The focus of Part II is the analysis of the performance of the 183-WSL technique based on surface radar measurements. The ground truth dataset consists of 2.5 years of rainfall intensity fields from the NIMROD European radar network which covers North-Western Europe. The investigation of the 183-WSL retrieval performance is based on a twofold approach: 1) the dichotomous statistic is used to evaluate the capabilities of the method to identify rain and no-rain clouds; 2) the accuracy statistic is applied to quantify the errors in the estimation of rain rates.The results reveal that the 183-WSL technique shows good skills in the detection of rainno-rain areas and in the quantification of rain rate intensities. The categorical analysis shows annual values of the POD, FAR and HK indices varying in the range 0.80-0.82, 0.330.36 and 0.39-0.46, respectively. The RMSE value is 2.8 millimeters per hour for the whole period despite an overestimation in the retrieved rain rates. Of note is the distribution of the 183-WSL monthly mean rain rate with respect to radar: the seasonal fluctuations of the average rainfalls measured by radar are reproduced by the 183-WSL. However, the retrieval method appears to suffer for the winter seasonal conditions especially when the soil is partially frozen and the surface emissivity drastically changes. This fact is verified observing the discrepancy distribution diagrams where2the 183-WSL performs better during the warm months, while during the winter time the discrepancies with radar measurements tends to maximum values. A stable behavior of the 183-WSL algorithm is demonstrated over the whole study period with an overall overestimation for rain rates intensities lower than 1 millimeter per hour. This threshold is crucial especially in wintertime where the low precipitation regime is difficult to be classified
