Parking Lot Occupation Detection using Feature-Based Detectors

    Get PDF
In recent years, detection of the parking places can be used in many positive ways. For example, the detection results may be displayed inside the cars or at the parking lot. Based on the detection results, the drivers can easily find free places. In general, the parking lot places can be detected using many sensors. With the use of camera, the parking lot can be monitored very efficiently, therefore, the camera based parking lot detector is presented in this paper. This detector is based on the gradient information which is encoded using the histograms. The histograms are composed to the feature vector that is used as an input for the SVM classifier. The detection results and parameters of the method are presented in the work.460 - Katedra informatikyvýborn

Private and Public Information on the Nordic Intra-Day Electricity Market

This paper is an empirical investigation of how traders react to public news in a market where there are lots of non-scheduled announcements, often arriving simultaneously. Using detailed trade information from the Nordic intra-day electricity market and GARCH models, this paper examines market participants' reaction to news about sudden production and transmission failures on the electricity grid. I divide the time of news announcement into three phases: the preannouncement period - the interval up to one hour before the hour of the public announcement of a message, the contemporaneous period - the same hour as the announcement of a message, and the post-announcement period - one hour after the hour of the announcement of a message. I find effect of news on prices in the preannouncement period, indicating that private information exists and is being used for trading on the intra-day market

Congestion management in electricity networks: Nodal, zonal and discriminatory pricing

Wholesale electricity markets use different market designs to handle congestion in the transmission network. We compare nodal, zonal and discriminatory pricing in general networks with transmission constraints and loop flows. We conclude that in large games with many producers who are allowed to participate in the real-time market the three market designs result in the same efficient dispatch. However, zonal pricing with counter-trading results in additional payments to producers in exportconstrained nodes.discriminatory pricin

Welfare optimal reliability and reserve provision in electricity markets with increasing shares of renewable energy sources

We develop an analytical model to derive the competitive market equilibrium for electricity spot and reserve markets under stochastic demand and uncertain renewable electricity generation. We then derive the welfare-optimal provision of reserves. At rst-best, cost of reserve capacity is balanced against expected cost of outages. The rst-best market equilibrium of the model implies an increase of reserve provision with a growing share of renewable generation. Furthermore, a growing share of renewable generation decreases the level of reliability as measured in energy not served. Additionally, required reserves to balance higher expected deviations will be more expensive, resulting in a trade-o between higher reserve costs and costs of energy not served

Theory of Ferromagnetism in Diluted Magnetic Semiconductor Quantum Wells

We present a mean field theory of ferromagnetism in diluted magnetic semiconductor quantum wells. When subband mixing due to exchange interactions between quantum well free carriers and magnetic impurities is neglected, analytic result can be obtained for the dependence of the critical temperature and the spontaneous magnetization on the distribution of magnetic impurities and the quantum well width. The validity of this approximate theory has been tested by comparing its predictions with those from numerical self-consistent field calculations. Interactions among free carriers, accounted for using the local-spin-density approximation, substantially enhance the critical temperature. We demonstrate that an external bias potential can tune the critical temperature through a wide range.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.

V rámci práce byly naimplementovány a prakticky srovnány vybrané metody z kategorie patch-based. Následující část práce obsahuje popis metod Image Quilting a Graphcuts. This thesis focuses on example-based texture synthesis and analysis. Synthesis describes the way in which an image of required dimensions is created from a texture of insufficient dimensions to correspond to defined requirements. The first part of the thesis describes textures, their categorising used for comparison of generated results and how to map the textures on surfaces of objects. Furthermore, main algorithms of currently used methods for texture synthesis are listed and described. Selected methods from patch-based category were implemented and practically compared within the thesis. The next part of the thesis contains descriptions of Image Quilting and Graphcuts methods. Part of the thesis is a modification of Image Quilting method using algorithms for edge detection in an image and modification of Graphcuts method allowing its acceleration. The conclusion of the thesis deals with difficulties occurring during the texture synthesis and suggestions of their solutions.460 - Katedra informatikyvýborn

Market Specific News and its Impact on Electricity Prices - Forward Premia

This paper studies the impact of market specific news on the short-time forward premia on the Scandinavian electricity market. I show that the short time premia between the day-ahead and intra-day electricity prices on the Scandinavian market can be explained by the arrival of news specific to the power market. By exploring the types of news I indicate that production failures shape the premia. Production disruptions in coal-powered units are most frequent and have the greatest effect on the differences between the day-ahead and intra-day prices
