Apologie pour le romancier : "Champions du Monde" (1930)
It is acknowledged that Morand’s fame as a writer of novellas surpasses that as a novelist. J.Le Carme argues for an inversion of such point of view. Morand’s novels attest to his authorial constant search for new expressive and narrative techniques. The trend towards a lack of closure and the creation of unprecedented images through the use of similitude are features common to other great authors of the age. "Champions du Monde" (1930) displays a picture of the rise of the United States in the course of the Twenty-First Century and of the contemporaneous decline of France, a symbol of old Europe, with illuminated foresight
On the expression of TAM on nouns: evidence from Tundra Nenets
The paper aims to enrich the database of independent time-related morphology on nouns and contribute to the discussion of its categorization by examining the so-called predestinative forms in Tundra Nenets (Uralic). The basic semantic contribution predestinatives make consists in providing temporal information relevant for the interpretation of possessive NPs: they specify the relation between the time at which the possessive predicate is true of the possessor and the possessed noun, and the time at which the whole NP is true. However, some properties of predestinatives are not easily accounted for by the nominal tense analysis; rather it would be more appropriate to analyze them as nominal mood, in particular, subjunctive or embedded irrealis. The paper concludes that Tundra Nenets presents rather clear evidence for a TAM category on nouns, but whether it is tense or mood ultimately depends on whether nominal tense is defined as a category that affects the time at which the whole NP is true or the time at which the predicate embedded within the NP is true
Roots of resilience: Coping, identity, and innovation among farmers
Background: Farmers in Misamis Occidental face multiple challenges, including physical labor exhaustion, financial instability, climate unpredictability, and lack of institutional support. This study explores the lived experiences and adaptive strategies of these farmers to understand the essence of resilience within a rural Philippine context. Methods: Drawing on thematic analysis of in-depth interviews, the research identified key sources of resilience such as spiritual strength, familial responsibility, resourcefulness, and deep-rooted farming identity. Findings: Participants described farming not only as labor but as a purposeful sacrifice for future generations, shaped by cultural upbringing and personal meaning. Despite enduring hardship, farmers maintained a strong sense of perseverance through prayer, peaceful conflict resolution, and emotional endurance. Conclusion: The results suggest that resilience among farmers is shaped by an interplay of socio-emotional, spiritual, and contextual factors, highlighting the importance of culturally grounded support mechanisms. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study contributes original insights by contextualizing resilience within the spiritual and socio-cultural realities of rural farmers in the Philippines, offering a novel foundation for developing localized resilience-building interventions and policy frameworks
An example of in situ ductile damage analysis by tracking algorithm
International audienceDamage evolution in ductile metals is characterized by the nucleation, growth and coalescence of small internal voids. Many laws and studies have been developed to understand and predict damage. Numerical modeling, based on full field microstructure acquisition have proven also to be quite efficient. Real microstructure input are of utmost importance as some studies have shown that the deviation from the average behavior for voids growth can be huge and therefore allows a single cavity to drive the damage behavior and lead to failure. We develop the dedicated tool to analyze individually voids during in situ test and use results as input for numerical simulations
Multiple-clause constituent questions: intonation and variation in Hungarian
When a question phrase bears a grammatical function in a subordinate clause but the interrogativity it introduces extends over a higher clause, there are two main possibilities in Hungarian: (i) the question phrase appears preverbally in the clause over which it takes scope, or (ii) the question phrase appears in the subordinate clause while the scope of interrogativity is indicated by the presence of another question phrase in the higher clause (the scope-marking construction). In order to understand the features shared by these two types of question and the ways in which they differ, this article explores the intonation of these types of multiple-clause constituent questions in Hungarian. The results of experimental investigation are reported and discussed, and the significance of these findings is evaluated in the context of wider typological variation in the formation of multiple-clause constituent questions

Localized mixed-valence and redox activity within a triazole-bridged dinucleating ligand upon coordination to palladium
The new dinucleating redox-active ligand (LH4), bearing two redox-active NNO-binding pockets linked by a 1,2,3-triazole unit, is synthetically readily accessible. Coordination to two equivalents of PdII resulted in the formation of paramagnetic (S=inline image ) dinuclear Pd complexes with a κ2-N,N′-bridging triazole and a single bridging chlorido or azido ligand. A combined spectroscopic, spectroelectrochemical, and computational study confirmed Robin–Day Class II mixed-valence within the redox-active ligand, with little influence of the secondary bridging anionic ligand. Intervalence charge transfer was observed between the two ligand binding pockets. Selective one-electron oxidation allowed for isolation of the corresponding cationic ligand-based diradical species. SQUID (super-conducting quantum interference device) measurements of these compounds revealed weak anti-ferromagnetic spin coupling between the two ligand-centered radicals and an overall singlet ground state in the solid state, which is supported by DFT calculations. The rigid and conjugated dinucleating redox-active ligand framework thus allows for efficient electronic communication between the two binding pockets
