    Antideuteron yield at the AGS and coalescence implications

    Full text link
    We present Experiment 864's measurement of invariant antideuteron yields in 11.5A GeV/c Au + Pt collisions. The analysis includes 250 million triggers representing 14 billion 10% central interactions sampled for events with high mass candidates. We find (1/2 pi pt) d^(2)N/dydpt = 3.5 +/- 1.5 (stat.) +0.9,-0.5 (sys.) x 10^(-8) GeV^(-2)c^(2) for 1.8=0.35 GeV/c (y(cm)=1.6) and 3.7 +/- 2.7 (stat.) +1.4,-1.5 (sys.) x 10^(-8) GeV^(-2)c^(2) for 1.4=0.26 GeV/c, and a coalescence parameter B2-bar of 4.1 +/- 2.9 (stat.) +2.3,-2.4 (sys.) x 10^(-3) GeV^(2)c^(-3). Implications for the coalescence model and antimatter annihilation are discussed.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, Latex, submitted to Phys. Rev. Let

    Determination of the D0 -> K+pi- Relative Strong Phase Using Quantum-Correlated Measurements in e+e- -> D0 D0bar at CLEO

    Full text link
    We exploit the quantum coherence between pair-produced D0 and D0bar in psi(3770) decays to study charm mixing, which is characterized by the parameters x and y, and to make a first determination of the relative strong phase \delta between doubly Cabibbo-suppressed D0 -> K+pi- and Cabibbo-favored D0bar -> K+pi-. We analyze a sample of 1.0 million D0D0bar pairs from 281 pb^-1 of e+e- collision data collected with the CLEO-c detector at E_cm = 3.77 GeV. By combining CLEO-c measurements with branching fraction input and time-integrated measurements of R_M = (x^2+y^2)/2 and R_{WS} = Gamma(D0 -> K+pi-)/Gamma(D0bar -> K+pi-) from other experiments, we find \cos\delta = 1.03 +0.31-0.17 +- 0.06, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. In addition, by further including external measurements of charm mixing parameters, we obtain an alternate measurement of \cos\delta = 1.10 +- 0.35 +- 0.07, as well as x\sin\delta = (4.4 +2.7-1.8 +- 2.9) x 10^-3 and \delta = 22 +11-12 +9-11 degrees.Comment: 37 pages, also available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/2007/. Space charge in drift chambers operated with the Xe,CO2(15%) mixture

    Full text link
    Using prototype modules of the ALICE Transition Radiation Detector we investigate space charge effects and the dependence of the pion rejection performance on the incident angle of the ionizing particle. The average pulse height distributions in the drift chambers operated with the Xe,CO2(15%) mixture provide quantitative information on the gas gain reduction due to space charge accumulating during the drift of the primary ionization. Our results demonstrate that the pion rejection performance of a TRD is better for tracks which are not at normal incidence to the anode wires. We present detailed simulations of detector signals, which reproduce the measurements and lend strong support to our interpretation of the measurements in terms of space charge effects.Comment: 18 pages, 10 figures, accepted for publication in Nucl.Instrum.Meth.     Observation of B0pΛˉD()B^{0} \rightarrow p\bar{\Lambda} D^{(*)-}

    Full text link
    We report the first observation of the decays B0pΛˉD()B^0 \rightarrow p\bar{\Lambda} D^{(*)-}. The data sample of 711711 fb1^{-1} used in this analysis corresponds to 772772 million BBˉB\bar{B} pairs, collected at the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^{+}e^{-} collider. We observe 19.8σ19.8\sigma and 10.8σ10.8\sigma excesses of events for the two decay modes and measure the branching fractions of B0pΛˉDB^0 \rightarrow p\bar{\Lambda} D^{-} and B0pΛˉDB^0 \rightarrow p\bar{\Lambda} D^{*-} to be (25.1±2.6±3.5)×106(25.1\pm2.6\pm3.5)\times10^{-6} and (33.6±6.3±4.4)×106(33.6\pm6.3\pm4.4)\times10^{-6}, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are not compatible with the predictions based on the generalized factorization approach. In addition, a threshold enhancement in the di-baryon (pΛˉp\bar{\Lambda}) system is observed, consistent with that observed in similar BB decays.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures and 3 tables, submitted to PR

    Antiproton Production in 11.5 A GeV/c Au+Pb Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions

    Full text link
    We present the first results from the E864 collaboration on the production of antiprotons in 10% central 11.5 A GeV/c Au+Pb nucleus collisions at the Brookhaven AGS. We report invariant multiplicities for antiproton production in the kinematic region 1.4<y<2.2 and 50<p_T<300 MeV/c, and compare our data with a first collision scaling model and previously published results from the E878 collaboration. The differences between the E864 and E878 antiproton measurements and the implications for antihyperon production are discussed.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures; accepted for publication in Physical Review Letter

    Search for the decay B+K0K+B^+\rightarrow\overline{K}{}^{*0}K^{*+} at Belle

    Full text link
    We report a search for the rare charmless decay B+K0K+B^+\rightarrow\overline{K}{}^{*0}K^{*+} using a data sample of 772×106772\times10^6 BBˉB\bar{B} pairs collected at the Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+e^- collider. No statistically significant signal is found and a 90% confidence-level upper limit is set on the decay branching fraction as B(B+K0K+)<1.31×106 \mathcal{B}(B^+\rightarrow\overline{K}{}^{*0}K^{*+}) <1.31\times 10^{-6}.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, submitted to PRD(RC
