    CLINICAL STUDY ON CHURNA BASTI ADMINISTERED IN MODIFIED KALA BASTI SCHEDULE IN AMAVATA

    Amavata is most common debilitating joint disorder which makes the life of patient almost crippled. Amavata in the modern parlance can be correlated with Rheumatoid Arthritis which is a highly prevalent disease in the present life scenario due to the changing dietetic habits, social structure, environmental and mental stress. Ayurveda has a lot to offer in this regard. The Chikitsa explained for Amavata includes Shodhana as well as Shamana which includes Langhana, Deepana, Swedana, Virechana, Snehapana, Basti and Upanaha. Therefore, the study was planned to evaluate the efficacy of Churnabasti in modified Kalabasti schedule in the management of Amavata. Churna Basti yoga explained by Acharya Chakrapani comprises of drugs possessing Ushna & Teekshnagunas, Deepana-Pachana, Vata Kaphahara and Shula-Shothahara properties which may help in attaining Agnideepti, Laghutva, Nirama Lakshana and Shoolahara effect. Combination of Vaishwanara choorna, Rasna Saptaka Kashaya and Dhanyamla administered in Amavata is yielding beneficial effects as the ingredients possess the properties opposite to that of Amavata and therefore acts positively on the disease. The present study was planned based on this concept and statistically highly significant effects (P>0.0001) were observed in the various assessment parameters of Amavata such as Sandhishoola, Sandhishotha, Sandhistabdhata Sandhisparsa Asahyata etc. In overall effect of therapy maximum number of patients (40.12%) got marked improvement. Therefore, Churna Basti comprising of drugs possessing properties opposite to Ama can be considered as a good remedy in the management of Amavata

    Vata vitiation leads to a disease known as "Vatavyadhi." According to Charaka, Vatavyadhi can be divided into two varieties, Dhatukshayajanya and Margavrodhajanya, based on the causes. In Dhatukshayajanya, Vata Dosha fills the Rikta Sthanas in the body. whereas in Margavarodhajanya, the disease is caused by an obstruction in the Srotas. Abhighata is also one of the Nidana that leads to Vatavyadhi. In the present case 60 years female complains of pain all over the body and reduced strength in both upper and lower limb after a history of road traffic accident.     Ayurvedic approach in the functional improvement of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) - A Case Report

    Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an auto immune disease in which organs and cells undergo damage mediated by tissue-binding autoantibodies and immune complex.[1]. 90% of patients are women of child-bearing years are affected with this disease. According to Ayurveda, the signs and symptoms can be included under the purview of Vataraktha. Case summary: A 43-year-old female patient approached with chief complaints of pain over bilateral elbow joints, shoulder joints and low back pain, burning sensation over toes for 8 years associated with febrile attacks, coated tongue, mouth ulcer, dryness of mouth aggravated since 2 months. The Ayurvedic diagnosis was made as Vataraktha on the basis of signs and symptoms. The patient was given Sadyovirechana (Purgation therapy), Basti therapy (enema) along with other external procedures and internal medications. Significant improvement was observed after the treatment in terms of VAS Score and other subjective parameters. This case study shows that Ayurvedic treatment is helpful in the functional improvement of SLE and helps in improving the quality of life

Upanaha is an ideal tropical treatment. Pradeha, Sankara/Panda Sveda, Bandhana are three varieties of Upanaha. It helps in reducing Vata Dosha, Sheeta (coldness), Shoola (pain), Sthambha (stiffness), Gouravatha (heaviness). It induces sweating and brings Doshavilayana. Sveda helps in Gatravinamana (increase the flexibility of body). Upanaha an Ayurvedic tropical treatment needs to evolve or adapt according to time so that it is easy to practice without changing its efficacy.     Compartmental Genomics in Living Cells Revealed by Single-Cell Nanobiopsy

    The ability to study the molecular biology of living single cells in heterogeneous cell populations is essential for next generation analysis of cellular circuitry and function. Here, we developed a single-cell nanobiopsy platform based on scanning ion conductance microscopy (SICM) for continuous sampling of intracellular content from individual cells. The nanobiopsy platform uses electrowetting within a nanopipette to extract cellular material from living cells with minimal disruption of the cellular milieu. We demonstrate the subcellular resolution of the nanobiopsy platform by isolating small subpopulations of mitochondria from single living cells, and quantify mutant mitochondrial genomes in those single cells with high throughput sequencing technology. These findings may provide the foundation for dynamic subcellular genomic analysis

    Imaging tumour hypoxia with positron emission tomography.

    Hypoxia, a hallmark of most solid tumours, is a negative prognostic factor due to its association with an aggressive tumour phenotype and therapeutic resistance. Given its prominent role in oncology, accurate detection of hypoxia is important, as it impacts on prognosis and could influence treatment planning. A variety of approaches have been explored over the years for detecting and monitoring changes in hypoxia in tumours, including biological markers and noninvasive imaging techniques. Positron emission tomography (PET) is the preferred method for imaging tumour hypoxia due to its high specificity and sensitivity to probe physiological processes in vivo, as well as the ability to provide information about intracellular oxygenation levels. This review provides an overview of imaging hypoxia with PET, with an emphasis on the advantages and limitations of the currently available hypoxia radiotracers.Cancer Research UK (CRUK) funded the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) PET Research Working party to organise a meeting to discuss imaging cancer with hypoxia tracers and Positron Emission Tomography.     Fish diversity and assemblage structure along the river-estuary continuum in the River Cauvery, India

    A comprehensive study on the fish assemblages of the River Cauvery was conducted during 2017–2020 by structured fish sampling surveys, encompassing various sampling sites situated along the upper, middle, lower, and estuarine stretches. The present study recorded a total of 146 fish species belonging to 52 families from the River Cauvery. The highest recorded fish diversity was at Hogenakkal (76 species) as it is situated in the transition zone between Deccan Plateau and the plains of Tamil Nadu. Lowest diversity was recorded at Bhagamandala (23 species), as this site represented a narrow hillstream habitat. As per SIMPER analysis, the silver razor-belly minnow (Salmostoma acinaces) was the most representative species in Upper Cauvery, with percentage similarity contribution (% SC) of 36.55%. The Middle Cauvery situated in the plateau zone was mainly represented by Labeo calbasu (14.01% SC), the exotic Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) with 8.45%, and the bagrid catfish Mystus cavasius (5.1%). The exotic species contributed to maximum fish catch and gradually replaced the native fish fauna in Lower Cauvery. The fish fauna of Cauvery Estuary is distinct from other zones with a characteristic fish assemblage represented by the glassy perchlet, Ambassis miops (11.97% SC), Crenimugil buchanani (11.14 %), and Mugil cephalus (6.23 %). Among the fish species recorded during the present study, 29 species were endemic to Western Ghats, of which 10 species were categorized as threatened by the IUCN, including 2 critically endangered (Barbodes bovanicus, and Hemibagrus punctatus), 5 endangered (Dawkinsia arulius, Hypselobarbus curmuca, H. mussullah, H. micropogon, and Nemacheilus pulchellus) and 3 vulnerable species (Hypselobarbus kolus, Hyporhamphus xanthopterus, and Wallago attu). A holistic study on the fish communities of Cauvery along the spatio-temporal scale is imperative to ensure sustainable management for conservation of endemic fish fauna

    Locus for severity implicates CNS resilience in progression of multiple sclerosis

    Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (CNS) that results in significant neurodegeneration in the majority of those affected and is a common cause of chronic neurological disability in young adults(1,2). Here, to provide insight into the potential mechanisms involved in progression, we conducted a genome-wide association study of the age-related MS severity score in 12,584 cases and replicated our findings in a further 9,805 cases. We identified a significant association with rs10191329 in the DYSF-ZNF638 locus, the risk allele of which is associated with a shortening in the median time to requiring a walking aid of a median of 3.7 years in homozygous carriers and with increased brainstem and cortical pathology in brain tissue. We also identified suggestive association with rs149097173 in the DNM3-PIGC locus and significant heritability enrichment in CNS tissues. Mendelian randomization analyses suggested a potential protective role for higher educational attainment. In contrast to immune-driven susceptibility(3), these findings suggest a key role for CNS resilience and potentially neurocognitive reserve in determining outcome in MS
