Balanced-To-Balanced Microstrip Diplexer Based on Magnetically Coupled Resonators

    Get PDF
Two balanced-To-balanced planar diplexers based on magnetically coupled microstrip resonators are proposed in this paper. For the first prototype, each channel/differential-output is composed of a second order single-band balanced bandpass filter based on open-loop resonators. For the second diplexer example, the filters composing the differential outputs are fourth order and are implemented by means of folded stepped-impedance resonators. The design procedure for the differential response is quite straightforward, since it is based on the use of the well-known external quality factor and coupling coefficients concepts. Common-mode is inherently rejected thanks to the benefits of magnetic coupling, which precludes common-mode transmission over a wide frequency range. The proposed structure also offers a high level of channel-To-channel isolation. To demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed idea, the two prototypes are simulated, fabricated, and measured. Good differential-mode and common-mode performance is observed in both examples. Simulations and measurements show good agreement.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TEC2013-41913-P, TEC2017-84724-P, TEC2016-75650-RJunta de Andalucía P12-TIC-1435Generalitat de Catalunya 2014SGR-15

Enhancing common-mode suppression in microstrip differential lines by means of chirped and multi-tuned electromagnetic bandgaps

    Get PDF
This article presents common-mode suppressed microstrip differential lines based on chirped electromagnetic bandgaps (EBGs). To achieve common-mode suppression in a wide band, the common-mode impedance is modulated following a sinusoidal chirping, whereas the differential-mode impedance is kept unaltered, thus ensuring that the line is transparent for that mode. The result is a differential line exhibiting common-mode suppression in a band from 2.45 GHz up to 7.37 GHz centered at 5 GHz (98.4% bandwidth). As compared to previous works, based on single tuned or double tuned EBGs, the proposed technique is useful to achieve wider rejection bands for the common mode. Nevertheless, the authors also propose an alternative based on multi-tuned EBGs, in order to obtain a comparable fractional bandwidth. In both cases, the design procedure is simple, and the ground plane is kept unaltered

This case study examines the creation of the Serra do Conduru State Park (PESC) from the perspective of Environmental History, aiming to understand how various actors sought to overcome the conflicts, contradictions, and controversies surrounding the Park, from its decree to its implementation. It also seeks to explore the changes and continuities brought about by this conservation unit in the territory between 1993 and 2006. The park was part of a broader context of territorial management projects in southern Bahia, based on notions of sustainable development and tourism promotion through the creation of Environmental Protection Areas (APAs). As related projects, the Park and the APA Costa de Itacaré - Serra Grande fostered interactions between humans and non-humans, altering conservation dynamics and associated lives. For this study, sources included APA newspapers published between 1999 and 2004, minutes from the Management Council meetings of the APA and PESC between 1999 and 2006, the PESC Creation and APA Implementation Project, as well as interviews with residents, environmentalists, and managers of both conservation units. Amid conflicts, negotiations, and alliances, the Park reorganized human communities in the territory and their relationships with other forms of life, promoted the maintenance and regeneration of key forest remnants, and contributed to the conservation of Atlantic Forest biodiversity. A Balanced Scorecard Template For Florida Incubators

Incubators are organizations that have become a key factor to the success of new ventures. One study jointly sponsored by the University of Michigan, Ohio University, the National Business Incubation Association, and the Southern Technology Council found that 87% of the firms that went through an incubator program remain in business and 84% remain in their community. Clearly properly run incubators can provide much benefit. However there is littleconsensus on goals and best practices for managing the incubators themselves. Recently an approach to integrating strategy and practice called the balanced scorecard (BSC) has emerged asa popular tool in many public and private organizations. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the BSC as a potential performance andmanagement tool for Incubators in Florida. While the list of major corporations and public institutions that has adopted some form of a balanced scorecard continues to grow, there has been no research into its adaptability to incubators. This thesis found potential benefits associated with applying the BSC model to incubators, such as maintaining incubator\u27s competitiveness and improving communication and employee\u27s performance. Because a full-scale balanced scorecard system entails a fairly intensive implementation effort, it cannot be prescribed randomly across the variety of incubator enterprises. Accordingly, a stage of development framework is employed to help categorize incubators, assess their respective planning needs and identify how the balanced scorecard approach can be applied beneficially. Under these parameters, it is proposed that for incubators where both the degree of managerial complexity and the prospects for extensive change are high, the balanced scorecard can be a useful mechanism for effective management. A number of important implementation issues are also explored and some directions for future research are identified

Increased expression of H19/miR-675 is associated with a low fat free mass index in patients with COPD

BackgroundLoss of muscle mass and strength is a significant comorbidity in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) that limits their quality of life and has prognostic implications but does not affect everyone equally. To identify mechanisms that may contribute to the susceptibility to a low muscle mass, we investigated microRNA (miRNA) expression, methylation status, and regeneration in quadriceps muscle from COPD patients and the effect of miRNAs on myoblast proliferation in vitro. The relationships of miRNA expression with muscle mass and strength was also determined in a group of healthy older men.MethodsWe identified miRNAs associated with a low fat-free mass (FFM) phenotype in a small group of patients with COPD using a PCR screen of 750 miRNAs. The expression of two differentially expressed miRNAs (miR-675 and miR-519a) was determined in an expanded group of COPD patients and their associations with FFM and strength identified. The association of these miRNAs with FFM and strength was also explored in a group of healthy community-dwelling older men. As the expression of the miRNAs associated with FFM could be regulated by methylation, the relative methylation of the H19 ICR was determined. Furthermore, the proportion of myofibres with centralized nuclei, as a marker of muscle regeneration, in the muscle of COPD patients was identified by immunofluorescence.ResultsImprinted miRNAs (miR-675 and from a cluster, C19MC which includes miR-519a) were differentially expressed in the quadriceps of patients with a low fat-free mass index (FFMI) compared to those with a normal FFMI. In larger cohorts, miR-675 and its host gene (H19) were higher in patients with a low FFMI and strength. The association of miR-519a expression with FFMI was present in male patients with severe COPD. Similar associations of miR expression with lean mass and strength were not observed in healthy community dwelling older men participating in the Hertfordshire Sarcopenia Study. Relative methylation of the H19 ICR was reduced in COPD patients with muscle weakness but was not associated with FFM. In vitro, miR-675 inhibited myoblast proliferation and patients with a low FFMI had fewer centralized nuclei suggesting miR-675 represses regeneration.ConclusionsThe data suggest that increased expression of miR-675/H19 and altered methylation of the H19 imprinting control region are associated with a low FFMI in patients with COPD but not in healthy community dwelling older men suggesting that epigenetic control of this loci may contribute to a susceptibility to a low FFMI.<br/

Epigenetic regulation of microRNA expression in colorectal cancer

In the last years, microRNAs (miRNA) have emerged as new molecular players involved in carcinogenesis. Deregulation of miRNAs expression has been shown in different human cancer but the molecular mechanism underlying the alteration of miRNA expression is unknown. To identify tumor-supressor miRNAs silenced through aberrant epigenetic events in colorectal cancer (CRC), we used a sequential approach. We first identified 5 miRNAs down-regulated in colorectal cancer patient samples and located around/on a CpG island. Treatment with a DNA methyltransferase inhibitor and a HDAC inhibitor restored expression of 3 of the 5 microRNAs (hsa-miR-9, hsa-miR-129 and hsa-miR-137) in 3 CRC cell lines. Expression of hsa-miR-9 was inversely correlated with methylation of their promoter regions as measure by MSP and bisulphate sequencing. Further, methylation of the hsa-miR-9-1, hsa-miR-129-2 and hsa-miR- 137 CpG islands were frequently observed in CRC cell lines and in primary CRC tumors, but not in normal colonic mucosa. Finally, methylation of hsa-miR-9-1 was associated with the presence of lymph node metastasis. In summary, our results aid in the understanding of miRNA gene regulation showing that aberrant DNA methylation and histone modifications work together to induce silencing of miRNAs in CRC

A comparative study between Congress in Mexico and other Latin American countries is offered in this article. Starting with the manner in which the Government's Commission function within Congress, the writer tries to explain the way in which different countries conceive their parlamentary govemability. To that effect, the author illustrates his analysis with examples of some Latin American congresses which lead him to propose three main types: (L) congresses where the Board of Chairmen takes over government tasks; ¿1 congresses where the Board forms part of the government Commission; and c) congresses where the Board and the Government Commission are entities totally independent from each other
