Improving the reliability of model-based decision-making estimates in the two-stage decision task with reaction-times and drift-diffusion modeling
A well-established notion in cognitive neuroscience proposes that multiple brain systems contribute to choice behaviour. These include: (1) a model-free system that uses values cached from the outcome history of alternative actions, and (2) a model-based system that considers action outcomes and the transition structure of the environment. The widespread use of this distinction, across a range of applications, renders it important to index their distinct influences with high reliability. Here we consider the two-stage task, widely considered as a gold standard measure for the contribution of model-based and model-free systems to human choice. We tested the internal/temporal stability of measures from this task, including those estimated via an established computational model, as well as an extended model using drift-diffusion. Drift-diffusion modeling suggested that both choice in the first stage, and RTs in the second stage, are directly affected by a model-based/free trade-off parameter. Both parameter recovery and the stability of model-based estimates were poor but improved substantially when both choice and RT were used (compared to choice only), and when more trials (than conventionally used in research practice) were included in our analysis. The findings have implications for interpretation of past and future studies based on the use of the two-stage task, as well as for characterising the contribution of model-based processes to choice behaviour
The European Large Area ISO Survey - ISOPHOT results using the MPIA-pipeline
The European Large Area ISO Survey (ELAIS) will provide Infrared observations
of 4 regions in the sky with ISO. Around 2000 Infrared sources have been
detected at 7 and 15 microns (with ISOCAM), 90 and 175 microns (with ISOPHOT))
over 13 square degrees of the sky. We present the source extraction pipeline of
the 90 microns ISOPHOT observations, describe and discuss the results obtained

Germline genetic variation in prostate susceptibility does not predict outcomes in the chemoprevention trials PCPT and SELECT
Background
The development of prostate cancer can be influenced by genetic and environmental factors. Numerous germline SNPs influence prostate cancer susceptibility. The functional pathways in which these SNPs increase prostate cancer susceptibility are unknown. Finasteride is currently not being used routinely as a chemoprevention agent but the long term outcomes of the PCPT trial are awaited. The outcomes of the SELECT trial have not recommended the use of chemoprevention in preventing prostate cancer. This study investigated whether germline risk SNPs could be used to predict outcomes in the PCPT and SELECT trial.
Methods
Genotyping was performed in European men entered into the PCPT trial (n = 2434) and SELECT (n = 4885). Next generation genotyping was performed using Affymetrix® Eureka™ Genotyping protocols. Logistic regression models were used to test the association of risk scores and the outcomes in the PCPT and SELECT trials.
Results
Of the 100 SNPs, 98 designed successfully and genotyping was validated for samples genotyped on other platforms. A number of SNPs predicted for aggressive disease in both trials. Men with a higher polygenic score are more likely to develop prostate cancer in both trials, but the score did not predict for other outcomes in the trial.
Conclusion
Men with a higher polygenic risk score are more likely to develop prostate cancer. There were no interactions of these germline risk SNPs and the chemoprevention agents in the SELECT and PCPT trials
Comparison of Fermi-LAT and CTA in the region between 10-100 GeV
The past decade has seen a dramatic improvement in the quality of data
available at both high (HE: 100 MeV to 100 GeV) and very high (VHE: 100 GeV to
100 TeV) gamma-ray energies. With three years of data from the Fermi Large Area
Telescope (LAT) and deep pointed observations with arrays of Cherenkov
telescope, continuous spectral coverage from 100 MeV to TeV exists for
the first time for the brightest gamma-ray sources. The Fermi-LAT is likely to
continue for several years, resulting in significant improvements in high
energy sensitivity. On the same timescale, the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA)
will be constructed providing unprecedented VHE capabilities. The optimisation
of CTA must take into account competition and complementarity with Fermi, in
particularly in the overlapping energy range 10100 GeV. Here we compare the
performance of Fermi-LAT and the current baseline CTA design for steady and

Pancreas Cancer-Associated Weight Loss.
Unintentional weight loss in patients with pancreatic cancer is highly prevalent and contributes to low therapeutic tolerance, reduced quality of life, and overall mortality. Weight loss in pancreatic cancer can be due to anorexia, malabsorption, and/or cachexia. Proper supportive care can stabilize or reverse weight loss in patients and improve outcomes. We review the literature on supportive care relevant to pancreatic cancer patients, and offer evidence-based recommendations that include expert nutritional assessment, counseling, supportive measures to ensure adequate caloric intake, pancreatic enzyme supplementation, nutritional supplement replacement, orexigenic agents, and exercise. Pancreatic Cancer Action Network-supported initiatives will spearhead the dissemination and adoption of these best supportive care practices. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: Weight loss in pancreatic cancer patients is endemic, as 85% of pancreatic cancer patients meet the classic definition of cancer cachexia. Despite its significant prevalence and associated morbidity, there is no established approach to this disease entity. It is believed that this is due to an important knowledge gap in understanding the underlying biology and lack of optimal treatment approaches. This article reviews the literature regarding pancreas cancer-associated weight loss and establishes a new framework from which to view this complex clinical problem. An improved approach and understanding will help educate clinicians, improve clinical care, and provide more clarity for future clinical investigation
Microwave observations of spinning dust emission in NGC6946
We report new cm-wave measurements at five frequencies between 15 and 18GHz
of the continuum emission from the reportedly anomalous "region 4" of the
nearby galaxy NGC6946. We find that the emission in this frequency range is
significantly in excess of that measured at 8.5GHz, but has a spectrum from
15-18GHz consistent with optically thin free-free emission from a compact HII
region. In combination with previously published data we fit four emission
models containing different continuum components using the Bayesian spectrum
analysis package radiospec. These fits show that, in combination with data at
other frequencies, a model with a spinning dust component is slightly preferred
to those that possess better-established emission mechanisms.Comment: submitted MNRA
