Sexuality in the Therapeutic Relationship: An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis of the Experiences of Gay Therapists

Such experiences could impact the therapeutic process and a gay therapist’s willingness to self-disclose their sexuality. Self- disclosure of sexuality can be therapeutically beneficial for LGBTQ or heterosexual clients. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven gay male therapists and analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Five themes emerged: affinity for work- ing with LGBTQ clients, heterosexual males’ resistance to the therapeutic process, the impact of homophobia within the therapeu- tic relationship, empathy through shared humanity, and utilizing therapist sexuality as a tool within the therapeutic relationship

Thermionic Emission of Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes Measured

Researchers at the NASA Glenn Research Center, in collaboration with the Rochester Institute of Technology, have investigated the thermionic properties of high-purity, single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) for use as electron-emitting electrodes. Carbon nanotubes are a recently discovered material made from carbon atoms bonded into nanometer-scale hollow tubes. Such nanotubes have remarkable properties. An extremely high aspect ratio, as well as unique mechanical and electronic properties, make single-wall nanotubes ideal for use in a vast array of applications. Carbon nanotubes typically have diameters on the order of 1 to 2 nm. As a result, the ends have a small radius of curvature. It is these characteristics, therefore, that indicate they might be excellent potential candidates for both thermionic and field emission

Ideações e tentativas de suicídio em adolescentes com práticas sexuais hetero e homoeróticas

Esta pesquisa, que teve como população-alvo adolescentes com idade entre 12 e 20 anos, residentes em três municípios do interior Paulista, buscou conhecer as associações entre orientação sexual e ideações e tentativas de suicídio. Corroborando com as pesquisas internacionais, evidenciou-se que os não heterossexuais têm mais chances de pensarem e tentarem suicídio, comparativamente aos heterossexuais. Todavia, encontrou-se que, dentre o grupo de adolescentes que se assumiram não heterossexuais, os que estão mais vulneráveis são aqueles que se autodefiniram bissexuais e "outros", os quais constituem o grupo de pessoas menos assumidas, dentre os não heterossexuais. Do mesmo modo, constatou-se que os respondentes apresentam diversas opiniões e valores homofóbicos, sexistas e heterocentrados, o que revela ser o espaço escolar, onde se encontram esses jovens não heterossexuais, bastante carregado de posicionamentos discursivos discriminatórios. Conclui-se que a questão do suicídio é uma problemática de saúde pública e que a população de jovens não heterossexuais necessita de abordagens específicas para a prevenção e de atenção relativas a essa conduta.This survey, which had as the target population adolescents aged between 12 and 20 years living in three municipalities in São Paulo, sought to investigate the associations between sexual orientation and ideation and suicide attempts. Confirming international research findings, it is showed that non-heterosexuals are more likely to attempt and think about suicide, compared to heterosexuals. However, we found that among the group of teenagers who assumed to be non-heterosexuals, the most vulnerable are those who define themselves as bisexual and "other", which constitute the group of people less assumed, among non-heterosexuals. Similarly, it was found that the respondents have different homophobic, sexist and heterocentric opinions and values, which turn out to be the school environment, where these young non-heterosexual study, loaded with enough discriminatory discursive positions. We conclude that the issue of suicide is a public health problem and that the population of young non-heterosexual needs specific approaches for prevention and care in respect to this conduct

FUNGSI PENGAWASAN DPRD DALAM MEWUJUDKAN TATA KELOLA PEMERINTAHAN YANG BAIK DI KOTA DEPOK PROVINSI JAWA BARAT

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui : (1) Bagaimana Fungsi Pengawasan DPRD Dalam Mewujudkan Tata Kelola Pemerintahan yang Baik Di Kota Depok Provinsi Jawa Barat (2) Faktor-Faktor Apa Saja yang Menghambat DPRD Dalam Pengawasan Untuk Mewujudkan Tata Kelola Pemerintahan yang Baik Di Kota Depok Provinsi Jawa Barat. (3) Bagaimana Upaya Revitalisasi Fungsi Pengawasan DPRD Dalam Mewujudkan Tata Kelola Pemerintahan yang Baik Di Kota Depok Provinsi Jawa Barat.&#x0D; Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Sesuai dengan Pasal 82 UU No. 22 Tahun 2003. Pengawasan yang dilakukan antara lain tindakan perbaikan secara Administrasi misalnya pembuatan Raperda Baru, Penghentian Proyek Maupun Program. Untuk pengawasan lapangan DPRD Kota Depok juga turun ke lokasi pekerjaan untuk memastikan pekerjaan sudah dilaksanakan sesuai dengan Perencanaan dan Peraturan (2) Faktor Penghambat dalam Fungsi Pengawasan DPRD adalah sehubungan Dewan selalu sibuk dalam mengurusi urusan partai politik, walaupun di atur dalam Tata Tertib bahwa tugas Dewan harus diutamakan daripada urusan lain, namun pada kenyataannya Dewan selalu mengutamakan urusan politik. Selain itu, masyarakat juga mengkritik bahwa anggota Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah dinilai tidak profesional, itu dikarenakan Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah belum mampu mengoptimalkan fungsi pengawasan, dengan indikator penyerapan anggaran oleh eksekutif berjalan nyaris tanpa pengawasan yang berarti. Bahkan, sangat sering terjadinya gelombang protes dari kalangan aktivis dan mahasiswa yang pro demokrasi terhadap lembaga perwakilan rakyat daerah yang dianggap tidak optimal dalam menjalankan sistem pemerintahan di daerah. (3) Sejatinya dalam mewujudkan pemerintahan yang baik, tiap-tiap masyarakat juga harus berperan serta dalam menyelenggarakan tata kelola pemerintahan yang baik. Jadi, yang dimaksud dengan tata kelola pemerintahan yang baik tersebut merupakan suatu bentuk maupun wujud tanggung jawab yang meliputi wewenang Administrasi, wewenang Ekonomi hingga wewenang Politik demi mengatur segala permasalahan sosial daerah tersebut.</jats:p
