Universal hydrodynamic flow in holographic planar shock collisions

    Get PDF
We study the collision of planar shock waves in AdS5_5 as a function of shock profile. In the dual field theory the shock waves describe planar sheets of energy whose collision results in the formation of a plasma which behaves hydrodynamically at late times. We find that the post-collision stress tensor near the light cone exhibits transient non-universal behavior which depends on both the shock width and the precise functional form of the shock profile. However, over a large range of shock widths, including those which yield qualitative different behavior near the future light cone, and for different shock profiles, we find universal behavior in the subsequent hydrodynamic evolution. Additionally, we compute the rapidity distribution of produced particles and find it to be well described by a Gaussian.Comment: 23 pages, 15 figures, published versio

The problem of a new view on the creative heritage of a Russian writer Maxim Gorky is one of the more urgent in modern literary criticism. Late XX century methodological crisis of humanities has led to a revision of most principles in Gorky studies that had earlier seemed irrefutable. A shot analytical review of the last 15 years' most valuable researches is offered in the article

Effect of Image Forces on Polyelectrolyte Adsorption at a Charged Surface

The adsorption of flexible and highly charged polyelectrolytes onto oppositely charged planar surfaces is investigated by means of Monte Carlo simulations. The effect of image forces stemming from the dielectric discontinuity at the substrate interface is considered. The influence, at fixed polyelectrolyte volume fraction, of chain length and surface-charge density is also considered. A detailed structural study, including monomer and fluid charge distributions, is provided. It is demonstrated that image forces can considerably reduce the degree of polyelectrolyte adsorption and concomitantly inhibit the charge inversion of the substrate by polyelectrolytes.Comment: 19 pages - 7 eps figs - RevTex 4 - submitted for publicatio

Holographic heavy ion collisions with baryon charge

    Get PDF
We numerically simulate collisions of charged shockwaves in Einstein-Maxwell theory in anti-de Sitter space as a toy model of heavy ion collisions with non-zero baryon charge. The stress tensor and the baryon current become well described by charged hydrodynamics at roughly the same time. The effect of the charge density on generic observables is typically no larger than 15%. We find significant stopping of the baryon charge and compare our results with those in heavy ion collision experiments

Precessional cyclicity of seawater Pb isotopes in the late Miocene Mediterranean

    Get PDF
Astronomical tuning in the Mediterranean region is primarily based on organically‐mediated proxies, such as cyclicity of organic rich layers or changes in foraminiferal assemblages. Both during and post deposition, organic proxies can be affected by complex processes not immediately related to the changes in precession (insolation) they are assumed to reflect. Here we present an isotopic proxy which exhibits precessional cyclicity yet is inorganic. Seawater lead (Pb) isotope records over four precessional cycles between 6.6 and 6.5 Ma, from bulk sediment leachates of three Messinian, circum‐Mediterranean marginal locations, show variations consistent with precessional cyclicity. During insolation minima, the Pb isotope signatures from all three sites converge to similar values, suggesting a regional process is affecting all three locations at that time. Data from the marginal sites are compared with new data from ODP Site 978 and published data from a variety of geological archives from the Mediterranean region to determine the mechanism(s) causing the observed variability. While the comparisons are not fully conclusive, the timing of events suggest that increased dust production from North Africa during insolation minima is the most likely control. This hypothesis implies that authigenic marine Pb isotope records have the potential to provide a reliable inorganic tie point for Mediterranean cyclostratigraphy where sub‐precessional resolution is required. An inorganic tie point could also provide the means to resolve long‐standing problems in Mediterranean stratigraphy on precessional and sub‐precessional timescales which have been obscured due to post‐depositional changes (e.g., sapropel burn‐down) or suboptimal ecological conditions (e.g., the Messinian Salinity Crisis)

Economic recession and global mettle down have brought the question of insurance company investment to the forefront. Growing attention has shifted to the pattern of investments by the insurance and question of how to evaluate such investments. The aim of this research is to evaluate investment compositions which are made by life insurance companies in Indonesia, as well as to know the effects on the performance of Insurance companies
