Approaching delivery as a service
This paper explores the new logistics business model of Delivery as a Service, a concept aiming at a more efficient, fast and customer-oriented practice, linking IT solution development, urban logistics operations, supply chain efficiency and new business models. Delivery as a Service (DaaS) is defined as a service-oriented delivery and business processes in line with customer expectations and needs in the on-demand economy. The approach of this paper is an industry report based on evidence collected in multiple exploratory European projects integrating ambitious and strategic findings on Internet of Things, urban planning, consolidation centres, transport optimisation, and clean vehicle use. It contributes to a future scenario of urban logistics business models
Restricted Mobility Improves Delay-Throughput Trade-offs in Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks
In this paper we revisit two classes of mobility models which are widely used to repre-sent users ’ mobility in wireless networks: Random Waypoint (RWP) and Random Direction (RD). For both models we obtain systems of partial differential equations which describe the evolution of the users ’ distribution. For the RD model, we show how the equations can be solved analytically both in the stationary and transient regime adopting standard mathematical techniques. Our main contributions are i) simple expressions which relate the transient dura-tion to the model parameters; ii) the definition of a generalized random direction model whose stationary distribution of mobiles in the physical space corresponds to an assigned distribution

Perturbative unitarity bounds for effective composite models
In this paper we present the partial wave unitarity bound in the parameter
space of dimension-5 and dimension-6 effective operators that arise in a
compositeness scenario. These are routinely used in experimental searches at
the LHC to constraint contact and gauge interactions between ordinary Standard
Model fermions and excited (composite) states of mass . After deducing the
unitarity bound for the production process of a composite neutrino, we
implement such bound and compare it with the recent experimental exclusion
curves for Run 2, the High-Luminosity and High-Energy configurations of the
LHC. Our results also applies to the searches where a generic single excited
state is produced via contact interactions. We find that the unitarity bound,
so far overlooked, is quite complelling and significant portions of the
parameter space () become excluded in addition to the standard

EU DataGRID testbed management and support at CERN
In this paper we report on the first two years of running the CERN testbed
site for the EU DataGRID project. The site consists of about 120 dual-processor
PCs distributed over several testbeds used for different purposes: software
development, system integration, and application tests. Activities at the site
included test productions of MonteCarlo data for LHC experiments, tutorials and
demonstrations of GRID technologies, and support for individual users analysis.
This paper focuses on node installation and configuration techniques, service
management, user support in a gridified environment, and includes
considerations on scalability and security issues and comparisons with

Dependence of the drag over super hydrophobic and liquid infused surfaces on the textured surface and Weber number
Direct Numerical Simulations of a turbulent channel flow have been performed. The lower wall of the channel is made of staggered cubes with a second fluid locked in the cavities. Two viscosity ratios have been considered, m=μ1/μ2=0.02 and 0.4 (the subscript 1 indicates the fluid in the cavities and 2 the overlying fluid) mimicking the viscosity ratio in super–hydrophobic surfaces (SHS) and liquid infused surfaces (LIS) respectively. A first set of simulations with a slippery interface has been performed and results agree well with those in literature for perfect slip conditions and Stokes approximations. To assess how the dynamics of the interface affects the drag, a second set of DNS has been carried out at We=40 and 400 corresponding to We+≃10−3 and 10−2. The deformation of the interface is fully coupled to the Navier-Stokes equation and tracked in time using a Level Set Method. Two gas fractions, GF=0.5 and 0.875, have been considered to assess how the spacing between the cubes affects the deformation of the interface and therefore the drag. For the dimensions of the substrate here considered, under the ideal assumption of flat interface, staggered cubes with GF=0.875 provide about 20% drag reduction for We=0. However, a rapid degradation of the performances is observed when the dynamics of the interface is considered, and the same geometry increases the drag of about 40% with respect to a smooth wall. On the other hand, the detrimental effect of the dynamics of the interface is much weaker for GF=0.5 because of the reduced pitch between the cubes
