An information system of ecological models

Due to the wide range of demands that are posed to an information system of ecological models, it is not feasible to phase all requests with a single information system. Two systems which are currently under development are described in detail: UFIS ('Umweltforschungsinformationssystem' - environmental research information system) at the GSF research centre for environmental and health near Munich and ECOBAS at the University of Kassel. Basically, UFIS is an information system on models as a whole and in a later stage also on data, and ECOBAS is an information system on process descriptions within models, its focus is on mathematical descriptions of ecological processes. For acquisition of model information a comprehensive questionnaire has been developed, and a computerized version of the questionnaire is in progress. For demonstration the report includes a completed questionnaire using winter wheat ontogenesis model as the example.
