A study was carried out to compare the volume recovery and product quality of two different sawing techniques in the conversion of rubberwood which is plagued with low yield. The study was undertaken in a sawmill in Peninsular Malaysia, using the conventional live sawing process and the Saw Dry and Rip (SDR) process. The results showed that the SDR process resulted in higher volume recovery as well as higher product quality, compared to the conventional live sawing process. Further, the application of high temperature drying for rubberwood sawn material resulted in lower drying defects and together with the SDR process, resulted in a more economical solution for the conversion of rubberwood. Accordingly, a survey of the current industrial practices as rubberwood 125 saw mills revealed that rubberwood sawmilling is plagued with a low yield of 27% and the SDR process, if applied offers a significant improvement both in terms of volume recovery as well as product quality. Therefore, the results of this study have far reaching industrial implications on the sawing and machining of rubberwood in the South East Asian region

ABSTRACT Ivan Reza, L100100099, The Strategy Of Pas Fm Radio In Order To Increase The Working Quality Of The Announcers To Maintain The Radio Existence (Qualitative Descriptive Study Communication Strategy Of Pas FM Solo To Increase Working Quality Of The Annoucers To Maintain The Radio Existence), Paper: Communication Science Study Program, Faculty of Communication And Information Technology, Surakarta Muhammadiyah University. 2015. Communication strategy is a planning of an organization management in order to reach the goals that have been organized. The Communication Strategy itself is the combination between the communication planning and communication management to reach its goals. A mass medium, like a radio, has management structure, that is the management of announcing medium. Nowadays, the medium, like a radio, is getting rubbed down by other dominated media. Because the radio is mobile and it can be listened when the people are having activities, therefore, this kind of medium is still within most of the fun’s heart, especially the listeners’. Therefore, to maintain the total listeners, it needs the existence of management strategy, e. g. to sharpen the ability continuously and to increase the announcers’ quality. The subjects of this research were all persons who were involved in the ways of announcing process, starting from the top structure position of Pas FM Solo, that was the manager station, traffic or someone who was responsible with the announcing process, the producer who monitored and prepared the materials during the announcing, up to the announcers who announced the information which had been prepared. This research used the method of qualitative descriptive study. The descriptive study was used to deepen more the information of the subject studied. From this research, it was resulted that the communication strategy carried out by the management of Pas FM Solo and the announcers was by approaching himself to the announcers and continuously giving directives of the announcing techniques as a routine in order that the output quality of the announcers was always maintained, appropriate to the standard given by the producer. By so doing, the existence of Pas FM Solo was always existed in the hearts of the listeners. Keyword: Communication Strategy, Radio, Increasing the Announcers’ Quality, Qualitative Descriptive

A series of machining experiments were carried out using a CNC multi-function machine, to evaluate the sawing, routing and boring as well as the tool wearing properties of the oil palm lumber. The result found that the resultant machined surface of the oil palm lumber of higher densities (>500 kg m-3) is comparable to that of solid Rubberwood. Further, it was also found that the machining properties of oil palm lumber was markedly improved when machining at high cutting speeds, which in turn significantly reduced the incidence of machining defects such as fiber tear out and chip out. However, with higher cutting speeds, accelerated tool wear is inevitable and coupled with the fact that the oil palm lumber is markedly abrasive due to its high silica content, the resulting tooling cost is a concern. Hence, the development of new tooling for the machining oil palm lumber is recommended. Despite this shortcoming, the lower cost and environmental friendly reputation of the oil palm lumber should encourage wider utilization of the material in the furniture industry

Background: Liver fibrosis is a leading pathway to cirrhosis and a global clinical issue. Oxidative stress mediated tissue damage is one of the prime causes of hepatic dysfunction and fibrosis. Apocynin is one of many strong antioxidants. Objective: To evaluate the effect of apocynin in the CCl4 administered hepatic dysfunction in rats. Methods: Female Long Evans rats were administered with CCl4 orally (1 mL/kg) twice a week for 2 weeks and were treated with apocynin (100 mg/kg). Both plasma and liver tissues were analyzed for alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alkaline phosphatase activities. Oxidative stress parameters were also measured by determining malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO), myeloperoxidase (MPO), advanced protein oxidation product (APOP). In addition, antioxidant enzyme activities such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase activities in plasma and liver tissues were analyzed. Moreover, inflammation and tissue fibrosis were confirmed by histological staining of liver tissue sections. Results: Apocynin significantly reduced serum AST, ALT, and ALP activities in carbon tetrachloride treated rats. It also exhibited a considerable reduction of the oxidative stress markers (MDA, MPO, NO, and APOP level) which was elevated due to CCl4 administration in rats. Apocynin treatment also restored the catalase and superoxide dismutase activity in CCl4 treated rats. Histological analysis of liver sections revealed that apocynin prevented inflammatory cells infiltration and fibrosis in CCl4 administered rats. Conclusion: These results suggest that apocynin protects liver damage induced by CCl4 by inhibiting lipid peroxidation and stimulating the cellular antioxidant system

Markov Properties of Electrical Discharge Current Fluctuations in Plasma

Using the Markovian method, we study the stochastic nature of electrical discharge current fluctuations in the Helium plasma. Sinusoidal trends are extracted from the data set by the Fourier-Detrended Fluctuation analysis and consequently cleaned data is retrieved. We determine the Markov time scale of the detrended data set by using likelihood analysis. We also estimate the Kramers-Moyal's coefficients of the discharge current fluctuations and derive the corresponding Fokker-Planck equation. In addition, the obtained Langevin equation enables us to reconstruct discharge time series with similar statistical properties compared with the observed in the experiment. We also provide an exact decomposition of temporal correlation function by using Kramers-Moyal's coefficients. We show that for the stationary time series, the two point temporal correlation function has an exponential decaying behavior with a characteristic correlation time scale. Our results confirm that, there is no definite relation between correlation and Markov time scales. However both of them behave as monotonic increasing function of discharge current intensity. Finally to complete our analysis, the multifractal behavior of reconstructed time series using its Keramers-Moyal's coefficients and original data set are investigated. Extended self similarity analysis demonstrates that fluctuations in our experimental setup deviates from Kolmogorov (K41) theory for fully developed turbulence regime.Comment: 25 pages, 9 figures and 4 tables. Background: Neurodevelopmental disorders have challenged clinical genetics for decades, with over 700 genes implicated and many whose function remains unknown. The application of whole-exome sequencing is proving pivotal in closing the genotype/phenotype gap through the discovery of new genes and variants that help to unravel the pathogenic mechanisms driving neuropathogenesis. One such discovery includes TRIO, a gene recently implicated in neurodevelopmental delay. Trio is a Dbl family guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) and a major regulator of neuronal development, controlling actin cytoskeleton dynamics by activating the GTPase Rac1.Methods: Whole-exome sequencing was undertaken on a family presenting with global developmental delay, microcephaly and mild dysmorphism. Father/daughter exome analysis was performed, followed by confirmatory Sanger sequencing and segregation analysis on four individuals. Three further patients were recruited through the deciphering developmental disorders (DDD) study. Functional studies were undertaken using patient-specific Trio protein mutations. Results: We identified a frameshift deletion in TRIO that segregated autosomal dominantly. By scrutinising data from DDD, we further identified three unrelated children with a similar phenotype who harboured de novo missense mutations in TRIO. Biochemical studies demonstrated that in three out of four families, the Trio mutations led to a markedly reduced Rac1 activation. Conclusions: We describe an inherited global developmental delay phenotype associated with a frameshift deletion in TRIO. Additionally, we identify pathogenic de novo missense mutations in TRIO associated with the same consistent phenotype, intellectual disability, microcephaly and dysmorphism with striking digital features. We further functionally validate the importance of the GEF domain in Trio protein function. Our study demonstrates how genomic technologies are yet again proving prolific in diagnosing and advancing the understanding of neurodevelopmental disorders.<br/
