Conformal topological Yang-Mills theory and de Sitter holography
A new topological conformal field theory in four Euclidean dimensions is
constructed from N=4 super Yang-Mills theory by twisting the whole of the
conformal group with the whole of the R-symmetry group, resulting in a theory
that is conformally invariant and has two conformally invariant BRST operators.
A curved space generalisation is found on any Riemannian 4-fold. This
formulation has local Weyl invariance and two Weyl-invariant BRST symmetries,
with an action and energy-momentum tensor that are BRST-exact. This theory is

Evaluation of two 99mTc-DTPA radioaerosols with different characteristics in lung ventilation studies
Two radioaerosol preparations, TechneScan®-DTPA (99mTc-DTPA, 40 mCi/3 ml; IPEN-CNEN, São Paulo, SP, Brazil) and TechneScan®-DTPA/AEROSOL (99mTc-DTPA/A, 15 mCi/1.5 ml with 0.5 ml ethanol; Mallinckrodt Medical, St. Louis, MO, USA), were compared in pulmonary ventilation studies in terms of total radiocounts and clearance after inhalation. An aerosol with ethanol is supposed to better distribute the radioparticles in the lungs. Twenty normal nonsmoking volunteers (10 men and 10 women), mean age of 23.2 years (range: 20 to 35 years), were studied. Images were obtained immediately and 30, 60 and 90 min after inhalation. Total and regional counts were obtained and the clearance half-lives of both lungs were determined. There was no difference in total counts between the two types of radioaerosol at any time (mean of ~188,000 cpm for male and female subjects at time zero in both aerosols). The highest count was obtained in the middle region of both lungs (P<0.001) with both preparations. The clearance half-life did not differ between aerosols (mean of ~80-88 min for male and female subjects for both aerosols). Small nonsignificant regional differences were observed. No differences between genders or between right and left lung were observed. 99mTc-DTPA/A generated the highest output of radioaerosol. 99mTc-DTPA with alcohol costs approximately five times more than the aerosol without alcohol. The present results show that either kind of aerosol may be adopted routinely for use in pulmonary examinations without affecting diagnosis. Geometric Second Order Field Equations for General Tensor Gauge Fields
Higher spin tensor gauge fields have natural gauge-invariant field equations
written in terms of generalised curvatures, but these are typically of higher
than second order in derivatives. We construct geometric second order field
equations and actions for general higher spin boson fields, and first order
ones for fermions, which are non-local but which become local on gauge-fixing,
or on introducing auxiliary fields. This generalises the results of Francia and

Aspects of U-duality in BLG models with Lorentzian metric 3-algebras
In our previous paper, it was shown that BLG model based on a Lorentzian
metric 3-algebra gives Dp-brane action whose worldvolume is compactified on
torus T^d (d=p-2). Here the 3-algebra was a generalized one with d+1 pairs of
Lorentzian metric generators and expressed in terms of a loop algebra with
central extensions. In this paper, we derive the precise relation between the
coupling constant of the super Yang-Mills, the moduli of T^d and some R-R flux
with VEV's of ghost fields associated with Lorentzian metric generators. In
particular, for d=1, we derive the Yang-Mills action with theta term and show
that SL(2,Z) Montonen-Olive duality is realized as the rotation of two VEV's.
Furthermore, some moduli parameters such as NS-NS 2-form flux are identified as
the deformation parameters of the 3-algebras. By combining them, we recover
most of the moduli parameters which are required by U-duality symmetry.Comment: 27 pages, v2: minor correction
A note on spin-s duality
Duality is investigated for higher spin (), free, massless, bosonic
gauge fields. We show how the dual formulations can be derived from a common
"parent", first-order action. This goes beyond most of the previous treatments
where higher-spin duality was investigated at the level of the equations of
motion only. In D=4 spacetime dimensions, the dual theories turn out to be
described by the same Pauli-Fierz (s=2) or Fronsdal () action (as it
is the case for spin 1). In the particular s=2 D=5 case, the Pauli-Fierz action
and the Curtright action are shown to be related through duality. A crucial
ingredient of the analysis is given by the first-order, gauge-like,

BRST approach to Lagrangian formulation for mixed-symmetry fermionic higher-spin fields
We construct a Lagrangian description of irreducible half-integer higher-spin
representations of the Poincare group with the corresponding Young tableaux
having two rows, on a basis of the BRST approach. Starting with a description
of fermionic higher-spin fields in a flat space of any dimension in terms of an
auxiliary Fock space, we realize a conversion of the initial operator
constraint system (constructed with respect to the relations extracting
irreducible Poincare-group representations) into a first-class constraint
system. For this purpose, we find auxiliary representations of the constraint
subsuperalgebra containing the subsystem of second-class constraints in terms
of Verma modules. We propose a universal procedure of constructing
gauge-invariant Lagrangians with reducible gauge symmetries describing the
dynamics of both massless and massive fermionic fields of any spin. No
off-shell constraints for the fields and gauge parameters are used from the
very beginning. It is shown that the space of BRST cohomologies with a
vanishing ghost number is determined only by the constraints corresponding to
an irreducible Poincare-group representation. To illustrate the general
construction, we obtain a Lagrangian description of fermionic fields with
generalized spin (3/2,1/2) and (3/2,3/2) on a flat background containing the

Dynamics of Higher Spin Fields and Tensorial Space
The structure and the dynamics of massless higher spin fields in various
dimensions are reviewed with an emphasis on conformally invariant higher spin
fields. We show that in D=3,4,6 and 10 dimensional space-time the conformal
higher spin fields constitute the quantum spectrum of a twistor-like particle
propagating in tensorial spaces of corresponding dimensions. We give a detailed
analysis of the field equations of the model and establish their relation with

Horizontal Branch Stars: The Interplay between Observations and Theory, and Insights into the Formation of the Galaxy
We review HB stars in a broad astrophysical context, including both variable
and non-variable stars. A reassessment of the Oosterhoff dichotomy is
presented, which provides unprecedented detail regarding its origin and
systematics. We show that the Oosterhoff dichotomy and the distribution of
globular clusters (GCs) in the HB morphology-metallicity plane both exclude,
with high statistical significance, the possibility that the Galactic halo may
have formed from the accretion of dwarf galaxies resembling present-day Milky
Way satellites such as Fornax, Sagittarius, and the LMC. A rediscussion of the
second-parameter problem is presented. A technique is proposed to estimate the
HB types of extragalactic GCs on the basis of integrated far-UV photometry. The
relationship between the absolute V magnitude of the HB at the RR Lyrae level
and metallicity, as obtained on the basis of trigonometric parallax
measurements for the star RR Lyrae, is also revisited, giving a distance
modulus to the LMC of (m-M)_0 = 18.44+/-0.11. RR Lyrae period change rates are
studied. Finally, the conductive opacities used in evolutionary calculations of

Consistent interactions of dual linearized gravity in D=5: couplings with a topological BF model
Under some plausible assumptions, we find that the dual formulation of
linearized gravity in D=5 can be nontrivially coupled to the topological BF
model in such a way that the interacting theory exhibits a deformed gauge
algebra and some deformed, on-shell reducibility relations. Moreover, the
tensor field with the mixed symmetry (2,1) gains some shift gauge

Avaliação da incidência de antracnose, do desempenho e estado nutricional de variedades de mangueira, para cultivo orgânico, na região centro-norte do Estado de São Paulo.
A mudança do perfil do consumidor, aliada aos riscos da contaminação por agrotóxicos, tem levado à busca de alternativas ecologicamente apropriadas para produção de frutas. Os objetivos deste trabalho foram avaliar a incidência de antracnose, o desempenho e estado nutricional de variedades de mangueira conduzidas organicamente na região de Pindorama-SP. Foram utilizadas 17 variedades de mangueira. O experimento foi instalado em delineamento experimental em blocos completos ao acaso, com 17 tratamentos (variedades) e seis repetições. Foi avaliada a severidade de antracnose nas folhas, através de uma escala diagramática, atribuindo-se notas aos sintomas. Foram avaliados o crescimento e o desenvolvimento (altura da planta, perímetro do tronco e da copa) e o estado nutricional, mediante análise foliar, das diferentes variedades utilizadas. Através dos resultados obtidos, podem-se considerar como muito suscetíveis à antracnose as variedades Bourbon, Rocha e Rosa; e resistentes, as variedades IAC 111, Alfa, Beta e Parvin; as variedades de manga apresentaram o mesmo padrão de crescimento; as maiores alturas da planta corresponderam aos maiores diâmetros do tronco e da copa; a variedade Parvin apresentou o melhor desempenho dentre as variedades estudadas, com relação à resistência à antracnose, altura e diâmetro do caule e da copa, podendo ser recomendada ao cultivo orgânico. As variedades Omega e Alfa também apresentaram bom crescimento, podendo ser indicadas para esse cultivo, pelo menos nessa fase inicial; as variedades Surpresa e Rosa não apresentaram bom desempenho, no campo, em relação às demais, não devendo ser recomendadas para o cultivo orgânico, principalmente a variedade Rosa, bastante suscetível à antracnose. As concentrações de N, P e K foram elevadas na fase vegetativa das plantas, comparadas à baixa concentração de Ca; houve carência de Boro em todas as variedades estudadas. A manga Rosa, provavelmente, sofreu toxicidade ao excesso de manganês, ocasionando diminuição em seu desenvolvimento
