Correlation Between Media Exposure, Communication Intensity with Health Experts, Perceived Susceptibilty, and Behavioral Intention of Pregnant Women to Perform HIV Testing in Semarang

Many of HIV cases has happened in Semarang and it becomes the background of this research. The problem that appears is the low intention of pregnant women to perform HIV testing. The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between media exposure, communication intensity with health experts, perceived susceptibilty, and behavioral intention of pregnant women in Semarang to perform HIV testing. The concept of selective exposure, a reference group theory and the theory of health belief model are used to explain the relationship/correlations between media exposure, the communication intensity with the health experts, perceived susceptibilty, and behavioral intention of pregnant women to perform HIV testing in Semarang. This study uses the non-probability sampling with incidental sampling technique. The population in this study is the pregnant women in Semarang, who have gotten the media exposure regarding information about HIV, with 60 respondents become the sample. Pearson correlation test analysis is used to test the hypothesis. The variable of media exposure does not significantly correlate with the behavioral intention of pregnant women in Semarang to perform HIV testing, because the significance value shows p=0.147 (p>0.05). The communication intensity with the health experts variable positively corelates with the behavioral intention of pregnant women in Semarang to perform HIV testing, because the significance value shows p=0.025 (<0.05). The correlation value of 0.290 indicates a weak correlation between the two variables. The variable of perceived susceptibilty positively correlates with a variable interest test for HIV in pregnant women in the city, because the significance value shows p=0.002 (<0.05). The correlation value of 0.391 indicates a weak correlation between the two variables.Advice given in accordance to results of research suggests health experts to take the initiative to increase the communication intensity with pregnant women, as well as to provide information and give more intensive persuasion to pregnant women on the importance of HIV testing

Sugar In School Breakfasts: A School District\u27s Perspective

    Get PDF
A recent series of emails and phone calls from parents concerned about the sugar content of Houston Independent School District’s school breakfasts revealed that a new issue had risen to the surface. This prompted us to look closely at the sugar content of our breakfast items. School districts participating in the National School Breakfast Program follow a strict set of nutritional regulations set forth by the USDA under the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act (HHFKA) of 2010 in response to the childhood obesity epidemic. HHFKA made significant changes to the breakfast meal pattern, but did not set standards for the sugar content. Whether this is an oversight or the authors of the law intentionally did not limit sugar, the result is the same: lower fat, higher carbohydrate school breakfast meals. Herein, we would like to provide the perspective of a school food service organization concerning sugar in breakfast, and present the challenges and efforts made to provide students with healthy, well-balanced school breakfasts

Implementing a Pharmacist-Led Medication Management Pilot to Improve Care Transitions

    Get PDF
Purpose: The purpose of this project was to design and pilot a pharmacist-led process to address medication management across the continuum of care within a large integrated health-system.Summary: A care transitions pilot took place within a health-system which included a 150-bed community hospital. The pilot process expanded the pharmacist’s medication management responsibilities to include providing discharge medication reconciliation, a patient-friendly discharge medication list, discharge medication education, and medication therapy management (MTM) follow-up.Adult patients with a predicted diagnosis-related group (DRG) of congestive heart failure or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease admitted to the medical-surgical and intensive care units who utilized a primary care provider within the health-system were included in the pilot. Forty patients met the inclusion criteria and thirty-four (85%) received an intervention from an inpatient or MTM pharmacist. Within this group of patients, 88 drug therapy problems (2.6 per patient) were identified and 75% of the drug therapy recommendations made by the pharmacist were accepted by the care provider. The 30-day all-cause readmission rates for the intervention and comparison groups were 30.5% and 35.9%, respectively. The number of patients receiving follow-up care varied with 10 (25%) receiving MTM follow-up, 26 (65%) completing a primary care visit after their first hospital discharge, and 23 (58%) receiving a home care visit. Conclusion: Implementation of a pharmacist-led medication management pilot across the continuum of care resulted in an improvement in the quality of care transitions within the health-system through increased identification and resolution of drug therapy problems and MTM follow-up. The lessons learned from the implementation of this pilot will be used to further refine pharmacy care transitions programs across the health-system

A Critical Appraisal of Guidelines for Antenatal Care: Components of Care and Priorities in Prenatal Education

    Get PDF
There are a variety of published prenatal care (PNC) guidelines that claim a scientific basis for the information included. Four sets of PNC guidelines published between 2005 and 2009 were examined and critiqued. The recommendations for assessment procedures, laboratory testing, and education/counseling topics were analyzed within and between these guidelines. The PNC components were synthesized to provide an organized, comprehensive appendix that can guide providers of antepartum care. The appendix may be used to locate which guidelines addressed which topics to assist practitioners to identify evidence sources. The suggested timing for introducing and reinforcing specific topics is also presented in the appendix. Although education is often assumed to be a vital component of PNC, it was inconsistently included in the guidelines that were reviewed. Even when education was included, important detail was lacking. Addressing each woman\u27s needs as the first priority was suggested historically and remains relevant in current practice to systematically provide care while maintaining the woman as the central player. More attention to gaps in current research is important for the development of comprehensive prenatal guidelines that contribute effectively to the long‐term health and well‐being of women, families, and their communities

The Sanctuary of Acceptance: Love and Identity Through the Letters and Poetry of John Keats

    Get PDF
In this thesis, I propose to explain how it is that the life and work of John Keats assists us in answering the question of how we create ourselves through the presence of others. I aim to do this through an analysis of the work that his relationship with Fanny Brawne inspired. In doing so, I hope to prove that romantic love creates a sort of metaphysical sanctuary for us to inhabit as we shift through the various incarnations of our identity throughout our lives. By synthesizing the theories of phenomenology and transgression, I hope to demonstrate how Keats’ rapid development as a poet was made possible through the sanctuary of acceptance that his love for Fanny Brawne afforded him. These concepts are divided into four sections. The first is a general overview of relevant definitions/terms as I understand and incorporate them. The second discusses how I perceive identity and its construction through influence. The third discusses Keats’ concept of Beauty as a philosophy of truth-making, and how that plays into identity formations. The last section explains how I see love as being necessary in perpetuating these new incarnations of self to occur due to the sanctuary of acceptance that it affords us

    Contract Pregnancy: Exploitation in Action?

    Get PDF
Opinions regarding surrogacy, otherwise known as contract pregnancy, vary significantly and often spark controversial and emotional debates. One particularly common opinion is that contract pregnancy is an exploitative process for the surrogate – one that causes her undue mental, emotional, and financial stress. This article examines that accusation in depth in order to: 1) challenge this assertion, and 2) defend contract pregnancy as a non-malevolent, autonomous, and fair institution

Improving Fluency and its Components to Enhance Comprehension

As students face many obstacles in their educational journey, it is agreed upon that literacy achievement is an essential skill for all humans. Once students are able to read fluently they can focus on reading to learn for a purpose. With numerous factors affecting literacy development, it is important to scaffold students learning to meet their needs in order to acquire necessary reading skills. The focus of this project is to improve fluency through a scaffolded model in order to focus attention on reading to learn as lifelong learners. Fluency and its components: accuracy, rate, and prosody, is an important indicator of reading achievement. ”Fluency is often seen as a bridge between word recognition and comprehension. It has been established as an important indicator of overall reading competency” (National Reading Panel, 2000)
