“I Treat Everyone with Respect”: Debt Collection Attorneys as Agents of Institutionalized Racism in a Color-blind America
How do debt collection attorneys understand their work in light of increased regulation of the industry and its historic structural racism? Drawing on over sixty hours of observation in two small claims courts, analysis of three months of cases, and semi-structured interviews with eight debt collection attorneys, I argue that attorneys reinforce the instutionalized racism of debt collection through their use of color-blind racism. Attorneys understand the state of the debt collection industry as inevitable, denying inconsistencies in their practice that privilege white defendants. Additionally, attorneys view themselves as helping rather than exploiting debtors, in contrast to frequent aggressive action without regard to its consequences for defendants’ lives. Attorneys who act with greater flexibility demonstrate the potential for lawyers to challenge the institutional racism of debt collection. However, the historic and contemporary stigma associated with debt collection in addition to the lack of professional prestige available to these attorneys gives significance to color-blindness not only as an explanatory device but, also, as a stigma management strategy. The necessity of stigma management in addition to the lack of professional stability and autonomy for many debt collection attorneys complicates the potential for future change

Analytical estimate of open-circuit voltage of a Schottky-barrier solar cell under high level injection
The open-circuit voltage developed across a Schottky-Barrier (SB) solar cell was theoretically modeled to estimate it under high level injection conditions. An Open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.709 V was obtained for specific metal/n-Si SB solar cell. A substantial increase of 42.6 % in Voc was noticed while comparing our result with that previously calculated in low level injection conditions. Four different metals suitable for making Schottky contact with n-Si were investigated and calculated the variation of Voc with different values of doping concentrations in the semiconductor. The effect of surface recombination velocities (SRV) of charge carriers on Voc was also estimated at such high level injections.

The failure of Kosi River (Bihar, India) embankments and its effect on land use and land cover: a Remote sensing and GIS based approach
The kosi is an important river system in the north Bihar of India. The kosi is important in terms of its Geological settings, Basin characteristics, Flow characteristics, and its dynamic characteristics. The large upper catchment area, the high number of first and second order stream, large Himalayan glaciers makes the river high flood prone. Kosi originates from upper Himalayas and flows through the shiwaliks, Nepal foothills where river makes large alluvial fan, and finally it joins ganga in plain where large bending are seen. In august, 2008, kosi experience its embankment’s change and devastating flood. The main idea of the paper is to analyzed the morphometric, geological, and anthropogenic causes of such river embankment’s failure with the use of Dem and satellite imagery, how this changes have effect local landuse and land cover characteristics. Key words: River system, Geological settings, Basin characteristics, Alluvial fan, Embankment, Morphometric characteristics
Strategic management of sales as globalization increased : a study on global account management, strategy and drivers
Global Account Management (GAM) is a global strategic, relationship oriented and marketing management program. In today’s highly competitive business scenario GAM has become one of the most significant strategic alliance by many companies with their customers to have the competitive advantage over their counter-part. It is a systematically approached program specifically in sales for managing strategically important customers globally. It is an ongoing process since many years now for all the global companies even though the rate of success is not so fast. Globalization has got an important role here for GAM analysis where the supplier firm engages it-self in standardizing marketing programs. It coordinates worldwide activities and integrates competitive moves across country markets. Hence Shi et al. (2010: 626) suggests firms can increase the use of GAM strategies when faced with increasing globalization. This report reviews the scientific literature and empirical studies of many past researchers on GAM analysis, its drivers and strategy and concludes the importance of GAM for all global companies. The objective of the study was to understand how global account management and strategy helps in managing global customers. It is a case study. The research problem was approached with a careful research design, which consists of a theoretical part and an empirical part. The theoretical part of the study defines and clarifies the GAM analysis where an integrative theoretical model is drawn to describe GAM relationship between a global account customer and a focal supplier. The empirical part will explore along with literature reviews and provide a quantitative analysis to the research study.
Through extensive literature reviews, case study and empirical interviews, the current study developed answers to the research question, “As globalization increasing, how global account management helps companies to manage customers globally?
Strangers in their own native land: Joseph Smith, Mormons, and the orientalizating of an American people
Emerging stronger than ever in the wake of the Napoleonic Wars, orientalism was more than just pictures of Turkish girls in a sultan\u27s harem; it was a process of information sharing through art, literature, military campaigns, and politics. Joseph Smith founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, colloquially known as Mormonism, in the midst of this information exchange. A product of his era, he used orientalist rhetoric and imagery to connect the ideas he preached to ancient Judaism, thereby legitimizing the new religion within the context of a much older and more respected holy past. But he was not the only one incorporating perceptions of the Middle East into his writings. Non-Mormons used orientalism, specifically their perceptions of Islam, to understand a seemingly bizarre new religious movement. Through this process, both groups managed to transform otherwise ordinary Americans into strangers in their own land
Drainage Basin Morphometric Analysis using SRTM DEM (90m.): A Comparative Study of Kosi (Bihar) and Kanshabati (West Bengal) Basin, India
The morphometric analysis was carried out to determine the drainage characteristics of Kosi (Bihar) and kanshabati (W.B) watershed, India; with emphasis on comparative analysis using Geocoded DEM data of SRTM. The main idea is to examine the stream properties based on the measurement of various stream attributes. The different drainage parameters studied and the measurements related to Perimeter, Area of Sub-Basins, Basin length and number of rivers were determined by using arc gis10.1 techniques. The mean Bifurcation ratio indicates that the Drainage pattern is not much influenced by geological structures. The Shape parameters reveal the elongation of the basin and. The applicability of Horton’s Laws on Stream numbers, Stream lengths and Stream areas is tested by estimating theoretically Bifurcation ratio, Length ratio and Area ratio. Keywords: Morphometric Analysis, Kosi River, kanshabati River, Stream properties, Perimeter, Area of Sub Basin, Basin length, Mean Bifurcation Ratio, Length Ratio, Area Ratio

Mothering in a Era of Choice: Race and Gender in Schooling Decisions of Homeschool and Public School Families
My dissertation draws from in-depth interview data to compare the schooling choices of 95 mothers living in United States. The sample is split between white and black mothers. Within each racial group, one set teaches their children at home and a second set sends them to public schools. School choice, which places the responsibility of selection on individual families, is central to current U.S. education debates. Yet homeschooling, an option that transfers labor from schools to home, is often overlooked in these debates. To date no research has compared homeschoolers to other schooling families in the same region, or examined the impact of the local education context across these two groups. Prior studies, even those interested in inequality, focus on families who send their children to traditional public schools, charter schools, and private schools, while mostly leaving out those families choosing to homeschool. Yet, U.S. survey data show much growth over the past two decades in the number of white and black homeschooling families. Studies with homeschoolers tend to focus exclusively on them, without comparisons to other schoolers in the region. Thus, my study offers a rich comparative analysis for how school choice initiatives are understood by families who are confronted with the same range of choices, yet are enrolling their children in different sorts of schools.
This dissertation expands gender, race, family, and education scholarship on two fronts. First, I find that schooling decisions—both homeschool and public school—draw on the intensive work of mothers. Within the family, mothers are disproportionally burdened with this responsibility of choice. Women’s narratives reflect the intensive work they do to navigate schooling options, while the meaning and experience of this work varies by race. Second, I find that decisions around schooling are shaped by resources and racialized experiences of family (i.e. importance of nuclear and extended family) and schools (i.e. bullying and discrimination). When schooling situations arise in which families are unsatisfied, those with more resources often choose to transfer schools or homeschool. This presumably leaves those with fewer resources behind, and appears to maintain, as opposed to reducing, gender, race and class inequalities across families. These findings support policy initiatives that invest in creating equity across schools so that no family is “left behind” in under-resourced schools
