Indicating Asynchronous Array Multipliers
Multiplication is an important arithmetic operation that is frequently
encountered in microprocessing and digital signal processing applications, and
multiplication is physically realized using a multiplier. This paper discusses
the physical implementation of many indicating asynchronous array multipliers,
which are inherently elastic and modular and are robust to timing, process and
parametric variations. We consider the physical realization of many indicating
asynchronous array multipliers using a 32/28nm CMOS technology. The
weak-indication array multipliers comprise strong-indication or weak-indication
full adders, and strong-indication 2-input AND functions to realize the partial
products. The multipliers were synthesized in a semi-custom ASIC design style
using standard library cells including a custom-designed 2-input C-element. 4x4
and 8x8 multiplication operations were considered for the physical
implementations. The 4-phase return-to-zero (RTZ) and the 4-phase return-to-one
(RTO) handshake protocols were utilized for data communication, and the
delay-insensitive dual-rail code was used for data encoding. Among several
weak-indication array multipliers, a weak-indication array multiplier utilizing
a biased weak-indication full adder and the strong-indication 2-input AND
function is found to have reduced cycle time and power-cycle time product with
respect to RTZ and RTO handshaking for 4x4 and 8x8 multiplications. Further,
the 4-phase RTO handshaking is found to be preferable to the 4-phase RTZ

Performance optimization of a leagility inspired supply chain model: a CFGTSA algorithm based approach
Lean and agile principles have attracted considerable interest in the past few decades. Industrial sectors throughout the world are upgrading to these principles to enhance their performance, since they have been proven to be efficient in handling supply chains. However, the present market trend demands a more robust strategy incorporating the salient features of both lean and agile principles. Inspired by these, the leagility principle has emerged, encapsulating both lean and agile features. The present work proposes a leagile supply chain based model for manufacturing industries. The paper emphasizes the various aspects of leagile supply chain modeling and implementation and proposes a new Hybrid Chaos-based Fast Genetic Tabu Simulated Annealing (CFGTSA) algorithm to solve the complex scheduling problem prevailing in the leagile environment. The proposed CFGTSA algorithm is compared with the GA, SA, TS and Hybrid Tabu SA algorithms to demonstrate its efficacy in handling complex scheduling problems

Patient radiation dose issues resulting from the use of CT in the UK
In this report, COMARE presents a comprehensive review of the radiation dose issues associated with CT scans in the UK. The implications of the increase in the numbers of CT scans in the UK are considered in the report, with focus on the number of younger patients undergoing CT scans, who have greater sensitivity to x-rays. The report provides an update on the radiation protection aspects of justification (balancing risk and benefit) and optimisation (balancing the risk from the radiation dose with the quality of the image)
Cluster Performance reconsidered: Structure, Linkages and Paths in the German Biotechnology Industry, 1996-2003
This paper addresses the evolution of biotechnology clusters in Germany between 1996 and 2003, paying particular attention to their respective composition in terms of venture capital, basic science institutions and biotechnology firms. Drawing upon the significance of co-location of "money and ideas", the literature stressing the importance of a cluster's openness and external linkages, and the path dependency debate, the paper aims to analyse how certain cluster characteristics correspond with its overall performance. After identifying different cluster types, we investigate their internal and external interconnectivity in comparative manner and draw on changes in cluster composition. Our results indicate that the structure, i.e. to which group the cluster belongs, and the openness towards external knowledge flows deliver merely unsystematic indications with regard to a cluster's overall success. Its ability to change composition towards a more balanced ratio of science and capital over time, on the other hand, turns out as a key explanatory factor. Hence, the dynamic perspective proves effective illuminating cluster growth and performance, where our explorative findings provide a promising avenue for further evolutionary research
