Pressure dependence of the superconducting transition and electron correlations in Na_xCoO_2 \cdot 1.3H_2O
We report T_c and ^{59}Co nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements on
the cobalt oxide superconductor Na_{x}CoO_{2}\cdot 1.3H_{2}O (T_c=4.8 K) under
hydrostatic pressure (P) up to 2.36 GPa. T_c decreases with increasing pressure
at an average rate of -0.49\pm0.09 K/GPa. At low pressures P\leq0.49 GPa, the
decrease of T_c is accompanied by a weakening of the spin correlations at a
finite wave vector and a reduction of the density of states (DOS) at the Fermi
level. At high pressures above 1.93 GPa, however, the decrease of T_c is mainly
due to a reduction of the DOS. These results indicate that the
electronic/magnetic state of Co is primarily responsible for the
superconductivity. The spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T_1 at P=0.49 GPa shows a
T^3 variation below T_c down to T\sim 0.12T_c, which provides compelling
evidence for the presence of line nodes in the superconducting gap function.Comment: published on 19, Sept. 2007 on Phys. Rev.
Lateral distribution of high energy hadrons and gamma ray in air shower cores observed with emulsion chambers
A high energy event of a bundle of electrons, gamma rays and hadronic gamma rays in an air shower core were observed. The bundles were detected with an emulsion chamber with thickness of 15 cm lead. This air shower is estimated to be initiated with a proton with energy around 10 to the 17th power to 10 to the 18th power eV at an altitude of around 100 gmc/2. Lateral distributions of the electromagnetic component with energy above 2 TeV and also the hadronic component of energy above 6 TeV of this air shower core were determined. Particles in the bundle are produced with process of the development of the nuclear cascade, the primary energy of each interaction in the cascade which produces these particles is unknown. To know the primary energy dependence of transverse momentum, the average products of energy and distance for various average energies of secondary particles are studied

Multimodal Treatment Eliminates Cancer Stem Cells and Leads to Long-Term Survival in Primary Human Pancreatic Cancer Tissue Xenografts.

We and others have previously identified a subpopulation of pancreatic cancer stem cells within the tumor as a critical therapeutic target and additionally shown that the tumor stroma represents not only a restrictive barrier for successful drug delivery, but also serves as a paracrine niche for cancer stem cells. Therefore, we embarked on a large-scale investigation on the effects of combining chemotherapy, hedgehog pathway inhibition, and mTOR inhibition in a preclinical mouse model of pancreatic cancer. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Prospective and randomized testing in a set of almost 200 subcutaneous and orthotopic implanted whole-tissue primary human tumor xenografts. RESULTS: The combined targeting of highly chemoresistant cancer stem cells as well as their more differentiated progenies, together with abrogation of the tumor microenvironment by targeting the stroma and enhancing tissue penetration of the chemotherapeutic agent translated into significantly prolonged survival in preclinical models of human pancreatic cancer. Most pronounced therapeutic effects were observed in gemcitabine-resistant patient-derived tumors. Intriguingly, the proposed triple therapy approach could be further enhanced by using a PEGylated formulation of gemcitabine, which significantly increased its bioavailability and tissue penetration, resulting in a further improved overall outcome. CONCLUSIONS: This multimodal therapeutic strategy should be further explored in the clinical setting as its success may eventually improve the poor prognosis of patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma
A striking correspondence between the dynamics generated by the vector fields and by the scalar parabolic equations
The purpose of this paper is to enhance a correspondence between the dynamics

domain . We give details on the similarities of these dynamics in the
cases , and and in the corresponding cases ,
and dim() respectively. In addition to
the beauty of such a correspondence, this could serve as a guideline for future
research on the dynamics of parabolic equations
Diffusive Spreading of Chainlike Molecules on Surfaces
We study the diffusion and submonolayer spreading of chainlike molecules on
surfaces. Using the fluctuating bond model we extract the collective and tracer
diffusion coefficients D_c and D_t with a variety of methods. We show that
D_c(theta) has unusual behavior as a function of the coverage theta. It first
increases but after a maximum goes to zero as theta go to one. We show that the
increase is due to entropic repulsion that leads to steep density profiles for
spreading droplets seen in experiments. We also develop an analytic model for

Systemic treatment of malignant gastrointestinal neuroectodermal tumour after childhood neuroblastoma: chemotherapy in malignant gastrointestinal neuroectodermal tumour
Malignant gastrointestinal neuroectodermal tumour is an extremely rare neoplasm that arises in the wall
of the small bowel, stomach or large bowel in youngaged and middle-aged adults. Histologically, it is
generally characterized by monomorphic cells with clear cytoplasma, S-100 protein expression, and EWSR1 gene
translocation. To the best of our knowledge, we describe for the first time, the case of a young woman with a diagnosis of metastatic gastrointestinal neuroectodermal tumour arising from ileum, who had a childhood adrenal
neuroblastoma with liver, bone and lymph nodes metastasis, treated with four cycles of chemotherapy
with the schedule CADO-CVP (CADO: cyclophosphamide 300 mg/m2/day on days 1–5, vincristine 1,5 mg/m2/ day on days 1 and 5, and doxorubicin 60 mg/m2/day on day 5; CVP: cisplatin 40 mg/m2/day on days 1–5 and etoposide 100 mg/m2/day on days 1–5) followed by right adrenal, kidney, lymph nodes and liver lesion resection, conditioning chemotherapy (melphalan-carmustineteniposide), stem cells autologous transplantation and consecutively radiotherapy on the spine (T9 to L3) for a total of 30 Gy. For the second diagnosis of gastrointestinal neuroectodermal tumour with liver metastasis, she underwent ileal tumour resection and platinum-anthracycline based chemotherapy with initial shrinkage of liver metastasis. Unfortunately, despite the initial response and the following delivered therapies, she died for rapid progressive disease. Taking into account the late effects of past therapeutic modalities, a long-term surveillance of young child treated for neuroblastoma, is required to appreciate their overall risks of second malignancies
High energy hadrons in EAS at mountain altitude
An extensive simulation has been carried out to estimate the physical
interpretation of dynamical factors such as , in terms of high
energy interaction features, concentrated in the present analysis on the
average transverse momentum. It appears that the large enhancement observed for
versus primary energy, suggesting in earliest analysis a significant
rise of with energy, is only the result of the limited resolution of the
detectors and remains in agreement with a wide range of models used in

High - Temperature Superconductivity in Iron Based Layered Compounds
We present a review of basic experimental facts on the new class of high -
temperature superconductors - iron based layered compounds like REOFeAs
(RE=La,Ce,Nd,Pr,Sm...), AFe_2As_2 (A=Ba,Sr...), AFeAs (A=Li,...) and FeSe(Te).
We discuss electronic structure, including the role of correlations, spectrum
and role of collective excitations (phonons, spin waves), as well as the main
models, describing possible types of magnetic ordering and Cooper pairing in
