Advanced design and characterization methodologies for memory-aware CMOS power-amplifier implementation
This paper reports on an effective root-cause analysis
method of memory effects in power amplifiers, as well as introduces
compensation techniques on a circuit design level. Despite conventional
memory-effect approaches, the discussed method uses a two-tone scan over a
wide operation and modulation range. This enables an in-depth study of
physical causes and helps to implement compensation techniques at design
stage. On the one hand, this circuit investigation is optimized using an
automated SystemC model parametrized with real device and measurement
values. Hence, computation time is widely reduced which shortens design
cycles. On the other hand, the implementation of the derived circuit
compensation means will reduce the complexity of digital pre-distortion due
to a reduced memory-effect induced AM/AM and AM/PM hysteresis. The approach
is demonstrated on a 65 nm CMOS power amplifier with an OIP1 of 27 dBm and a
PAE of over 30 % using WCDMA and LTE signals. In fact, mismatch could be
reduced by more than 8 %
Maize rough dwarf virus – for the first time detected in Germany
In vier
In 2006 leaf enation symptoms were found on maize plants in
Black Forest area in Southern Germany. Electron microscopic
examination verified Maize rough dwarf virus in symptomatic
plants. This is the first report of this virus in Germany. The virus
was found in four fields with almost 50 % of maize plants
infected. This provides an indication for an increasing agronomical
significance of this virus in Germany
Introduction: This review article compares Mohs surgery and superficial radiotherapy, specifically image-guided superficial radiotherapy (IGSRT), as treatments for non-melanoma skin cancer. Both methods are prominent in managing basal and squamous cell carcinomas, which are prevalent in regions with high ultraviolet radiation exposure. While Mohs surgery is distinguished by its precision and ability to conserve tissue, IGSRT presents itself as a non-invasive alternative with a favorable safety profile. Objective: To compare the efficacy, safety, recurrence, and aesthetic outcomes of Mohs surgery and superficial radiotherapy, specifically image-guided superficial radiotherapy (IGSRT), in the treatment of non-melanoma skin cancer. Methodology: A systematic search was conducted according to the PRISMA model, analyzing studies published between 2020 and 2024 in databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane. Out of 380 initial records, 16 studies were selected for thorough analysis. Results: The findings indicate that Mohs surgery offers high cure rates, over 95% for first-time treated cases, but also involves limitations, such as the need for specialized infrastructure. On the other hand, IGSRT showed comparable local control rates, with 99.3% short-term stability, and fewer complications. Conclusion: Both modalities are effective for treating non-melanoma skin cancer, offering different benefits depending on patient needs. The choice between them should be based on the patient's profile and resource availability.
The effect of hot isostatic pressing on surface integrity, microstructure and strength of hybrid metal injection moulding and laser-based powder bed fusion stainless-steel components
Hybrid manufacture of components by combining capabilities of replication and additive manufacturing processes offer a flexible and sustainable route for producing cost-effectively small batches of metal parts. At present, there are open issues related to surface integrity and performance of such parts, especially when utilising them in safety critical applications. The research presented in this paper investigates the ductility amplification of hybrid components produced using metal injection moulding to preform and then build on them customisable sections by laser-based powder bed fusion. The properties of such hybrid components are studied and optimised through the use of non-conventional post treatment techniques. In particular, hot isostatic pressing (HIP) is employed to improve mechanical strength and to produce hybrid components that have consistent properties across batches and throughout the samples, minimising microstructural heterogeneities between fabrication processes. Thus, the investigated post-processing method can offer an extended service life of hybrid components, especially when operating under severe conditions. The optimised post treatment was found to increase the hybrid components’ strength compared to as-built ones by 68% and ~11% in yield strength (YS) and ultimate tensile strength (UTS), respectively. Subsequently, leading to a great pitting resistance, thus, making HIP samples suitable for corrosive environments. The advantages of the HIP treatments in comparison to the conventional heat treatment of hybrid components are discussed and also some potential application areas are proposed
