On Koopman-von Neumann Waves II
In this paper we continue the study, started in [1], of the operatorial
formulation of classical mechanics given by Koopman and von Neumann (KvN) in
the Thirties. In particular we show that the introduction of the KvN Hilbert
space of complex and square integrable "wave functions" requires an enlargement
of the set of the observables of ordinary classical mechanics. The possible
role and the meaning of these extra observables is briefly indicated in this
work. We also analyze the similarities and differences between non selective

Optimal estimation of quantum observables
We consider the problem of estimating the ensemble average of an observable
on an ensemble of equally prepared identical quantum systems. We show that,
among all kinds of measurements performed jointly on the copies, the optimal
unbiased estimation is achieved by the usual procedure that consists in
performing independent measurements of the observable on each system and

Vanishing of the upper critical field in Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+\delta} from Landau-Ott scaling
We apply Landau-Ott scaling to the reversible magnetization data of
BiSrCaCuO published by Y. Wang et al. [\emph{Phys.
Rev. Lett. \textbf{95} 247002 (2005)}] and find that the extrapolation of the
Landau-Ott upper critical field line vanishes at a critical temperature
parameter, T^*_c, a few degrees above the zero resistivity critical
temperature, T_c. Only isothermal curves below and near to T_c were used to
determine this transition temperature. This temperature is associated to the
disappearance of the mixed state instead of a complete suppression of
superconductivity in the sample.Comment: 3 figure

Extremal covariant measurements
We characterize the extremal points of the convex set of quantum measurements
that are covariant under a finite-dimensional projective representation of a
compact group, with action of the group on the measurement probability space
which is generally non-transitive. In this case the POVM density is made of
multiple orbits of positive operators, and, in the case of extremal
measurements, we provide a bound for the number of orbits and for the rank of
POVM elements. Two relevant applications are considered, concerning state
discrimination with mutually unbiased bases and the maximization of the mutual

Global Value Chains During the Great Trade Collapse: A Bullwhip Effect?
This paper analyzes the performance of global value chains during the trade collapse. To do so, it exploits a unique transaction-level dataset on French firms containing information on cross-border monthly transactions matched with data on worldwide intra-.rm linkages as defined by property rights (multinational business groups, hierarchies of firms). This newly assembled dataset allows us to distinguish firm-level transactions among two alternative organizational modes of global value chains: internalization of activities (intra- group trade/trade among related parties) or establishment of supply contracts (arm's length trade/trade among unrelated parties). After an overall assessment of the role of global value chains during the trade collapse, we document that intra-group trade in intermediates was characterized by a faster drop followed by a faster recovery than arm's length trade. Amplified fluctuations in terms of trade elasticities by value chains have been referred to as the "bullwhip effect" and have been attributed to the adjustment of inventories within supply chains. In this paper we first con.rm the existence of such an effect due to trade in inter- mediates, and we underline the role that different organizational modes can play in driving this adjustment.trade collapse, multinational firms, global value chains, hierarchies of firms, vertical integration
Electroweak Corrections at High Energies
We present a survey of the most abundant processes at the LHC for sensitivity
to electroweak corrections at \sqrt{s} = 8, 14, 33, and 100 TeV proton-proton
collision energies. The processes studied are pp -> dijet, inclusive W and Z,
W/Z+jets, and WW. In each case we compare the experimental uncertainty in the
highest kinematic regions of interest with the relative magnitude of

Reliability and clinical usefulness of the personality inventory for DSM-5 in clinically referred adolescents. A preliminary report in a sample of Italian inpatients
Background The DSM-5 Alternative Model of Personality Disorders (AMPD) provides the opportunity to integrate the needed developmental perspective in the assessment of personality pathology. Based on this model, Krueger and colleagues (2012) developed the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5), which operationalizes the proposed DSM-5 traits. Methods Eighty-five consecutively admitted Italian adolescent inpatients were administered the Italian translation of the PID-5, in order to obtain preliminary data on PID-5 reliability and clinical usefulness in clinically referred adolescents. Results With the possible exception of the PID-5 Suspiciousness scale, all other PID-5 scales evidenced adequate internal consistency reliability (i.e., Cronbach's α values of at least .70, most being greater than .80). Our data seemed to yield at least partial support for the construct validity of the PID-5 scales also in clinical adolescents, at least in terms of patterns of associations with dimensionally assessed DSM-5 Section II PDs that were also included in the DSM-5 AMPD (excluding Antisocial PD because of the participants' minor age). Finally, our data suggested that the clinical usefulness of the PID-5 in adolescent inpatients may extend beyond PDs to profiling adolescents at risk for life-threatening suicide attempts. In particular, PID-5 Depressivity, Anhedonia, and Submissiveness trait scales were significantly associated with adolescents' history of life-threatening suicide attempts, even after controlling for a number of other variables, including mood disorder diagnosis. Discussion As a whole, our study may provide interesting, albeit preliminary data as to the clinical usefulness of PID-5 in the assessment of adolescent inpatients
