Language and Stylistic Aspects of Karel Čapek’s Journalistic Writing: An Analysis of Hovory s T. G. Masarykem through the Method of Textual Linguistics
The present contribution focuses on Karel Čapek’s Hovory s T.G. Masarykem to analyse its intrinsic structure by applying František Daneš’ model of thematic progressions (TP), ie. the choice and ordering of utterance themes, their mutual concatenation and hierarchy, as well as their relation to the hyperthemes of the superior text unit (such as paragraph, chapter, etc.), to the whole text, and to the situation. Thematic progression might be viewed as the skeleton of the plot. This contribution aims to identify the thematic progression patterns (simple linear, constant, with derived themes), in particular in the third part, focused on Masaryk’s thinking. Thanks to the identification of the thematic progressions, it is possible to ascertain the communicative intention of the author and to point out some formal aspects. Differently from the first two parts, in which the style is mainly narrative, in the third one the intention of Čapek is to reproduce the style of the president’s speeches. Putting in writing Masaryk’s thoughts, Čapek preserves the oral dimension and the stylistic originality of the speaker. Moreover, Masaryk himself contributed to the editing of the Hovory
Pod pojmem "český tisk" si lze představit široký výběr novin a časopisů vydávaných v češtině, němčině, ruštině a francouzštině. Druhá kapitola zkoumá jednotlivé žánry, které Jakobson používal, včetně nekrologu, reportáže,...1 Martina Mecco Abstract The dissertation Roman Jakobson's Collaboration with Interwar Czech Press examines Roman Jakobson's activity in interwar Czechoslovakia, specifically focusing on the period between 1920 and 1939. The analysis centres on Jakobson's writings published in the Czech press and has developed with a philological approach and through consistent archival research. The term "Czech press" is used broadly to encompass a wide selection of newspapers and journals published in Czech, German, Russian, and French. The aim of this thesis is to investigate Jakobson's role in Czechoslovakia through the lens of "cultural transfer", a concept first theorised by Michel Espagne and Michael Werner. In addition to analysing his activity as a writer in the Czech Press, the thesis also considers Jakobson's relationships with other scholars and prominent international figures, such as André Mazon, Naděžda Melniková-Papoušková, or Jurij Sokolov. The study is structured into five chapters. The first chapter outlines the methodology and the cultural-journalistic context in which Jakobson arrived after his departure from Russia. This chapter is divided into two sections: the first offers a general overview of Jakobson's evolving role within the Czech milieu, while the second presents a recognition of the periodical...Department of Czech and Comparative LiteratureÚstav české literatury a komparatistikyFaculty of ArtsFilozofická fakult
Relationship of Attitude with Student Learning Environment Toward Physics
The purpose of this study was to determine the description of student attitudes and learning environments towards physics and the relationship of student attitudes and learning environments towards physics at SMAN 6 Batang Hari. This type of research is quantitative using a correlational design with the instrument used is a questionnaire. The subjects of this study were 156 students from SMAN 6 Batang Hari. Quantitative data analysis techniques use descriptive and inferential statistics. The description for attitude is categorized as sufficient. While for the learning environment that is categorized good. The relationship between students' attitudes and learning environment towards physics is in the strong category with a pearson correlation of 0.719. Based on the results of SMAN 6 Batang Hari, the relationship between students' attitudes and the learning environment is strong for learning physics. Thus, positive student attitudes will be formed through a conducive learning environment
