An algorithm for discrete fractional Hadamard transform

We present a novel algorithm for calculating the discrete fractional Hadamard transform for data vectors whose size N is a power of two. A direct method for calculation of the discrete fractional Hadamard transform requires N2N^2 multiplications, while in proposed algorithm the number of real multiplications is reduced to NNlog2N_2N.Comment: 22 pages, 4 figure

Rotation numbers of invariant manifolds around unstable periodic orbits for the diamagnetic Kepler problem

In this paper, a method to construct topological template in terms of symbolic dynamics for the diamagnetic Kepler problem is proposed. To confirm the topological template, rotation numbers of invariant manifolds around unstable periodic orbits in a phase space are taken as an object of comparison. The rotation numbers are determined from the definition and connected with symbolic sequences encoding the periodic orbits in a reduced Poincar\'e section. Only symbolic codes with inverse ordering in the forward mapping can contribute to the rotation of invariant manifolds around the periodic orbits. By using symbolic ordering, the reduced Poincar\'e section is constricted along stable manifolds and a topological template, which preserves the ordering of forward sequences and can be used to extract the rotation numbers, is established. The rotation numbers computed from the topological template are the same as those computed from their original definition.Comment: 8 figures, 1 tabl

Streamline topology and dilute particle dynamics in a Karman vortex street flow

Three types of streamline topology in a Karman vortex street flow are shown under the variation of spatial parameters. For the motion of dilute particles in the K\'arm\'an vortex street flow, there exist a route of bifurcation to a chaotic orbit and more attractors in a bifurcation diagram for the proportion of particle density to fluid density. Along with the increase of spatial parameters in the flow filed, the bifurcation process is suspended, as well as more and more attractors emerge. In the motion of dilute particles, a drag term and gravity term dominate and result in the bifurcation phenomenon.Comment: 16 pages, 9 figure

Objective evaluation criteria for 2D-shape estimation results of moving objects

    Get PDF
The objective evaluation of 2D-shape estimation results for moving objects in a video sequence is still an open problem. First approaches in the literature evaluate the spatial accuracy and the temporal coherency of the estimated 2D object shape. Thereby, it is not distinguished between several estimation errors located around the object contour and a few, but larger, estimation errors. Both cases would lead to similar evaluation results, although the 2D-shapes would be visually very different. To overcome this problem, in this paper, a new evaluation approach is proposed. In it, the evaluation of the spatial accuracy and the temporal coherency is based on the mean and the standard deviation of the 2D-shape estimation errors

    Salient object subitizing

We study the problem of salient object subitizing, i.e. predicting the existence and the number of salient objects in an image using holistic cues. This task is inspired by the ability of people to quickly and accurately identify the number of items within the subitizing range (1–4). To this end, we present a salient object subitizing image dataset of about 14 K everyday images which are annotated using an online crowdsourcing marketplace. We show that using an end-to-end trained convolutional neural network (CNN) model, we achieve prediction accuracy comparable to human performance in identifying images with zero or one salient object. For images with multiple salient objects, our model also provides significantly better than chance performance without requiring any localization process. Moreover, we propose a method to improve the training of the CNN subitizing model by leveraging synthetic images. In experiments, we demonstrate the accuracy and generalizability of our CNN subitizing model and its applications in salient object detection and image retrieval. This research was supported in part by US NSF Grants 0910908 and 1029430, and gifts from Adobe and NVIDIA. Charge transfer tuning in TiO2 hybrid nanostructures with acceptor-acceptor systems

An interesting interplay between two different modifiers and the surface of titanium dioxide leads to a significant change in photoelectrochemical properties of the designed hybrid materials. The semiconductor is photosensitized by one of the counterparts and exhibits the photoelectrochemical photocurrent switching effect thanks to interactions with graphene oxide - the second modifier mediates charge transfer processes in the system, allowing us to design the materials response at the molecular level. Based on the selection of molecular counterpart we may affect the behaviour of hybrids upon light irradiation in a different manner, which may be useful for the applications in photovoltaics, optoelectronics and photocatalysis. Here we focus particularly on the nanocomposites made of titanium dioxide with graphene oxide combined with either 2,3,5,6-tetrachlorobenzoquinone or 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dihydroxybenzoquinone - for these two materials we observed a major change in the charge transfer processes occurring in the system

A video object generation tool allowing friendly user interaction

    Get PDF
In this paper we describe an interactive video object segmentation tool developed in the framework of the ACTS-AC098 MOMUSYS project. The Video Object Generator with User Environment (VOGUE) combines three different sets of automatic and semi-automatic-tool (spatial segmentation, object tracking and temporal segmentation) with general purpose tools for user interaction. The result is an integrated environment allowing the user-assisted segmentation of any sort of video sequences in a friendly and efficient manner.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
