Good internal communication increases productivity
Internal communication has become an important factor in today's business world. The increased use of electronic media can, despite their obvious advantages, cause communication problems, i.e. information overload. By avoiding communication problems, the productivity of a company can be increased. The relation between internal communication and productivity has been subject of a number of surveys. Although different survey approaches have been used, all found that there is a positive impact of communication on productivity. Since different communication dimensions have a different impact on an employee's perceived productivity, effective and efficient internal communication has to be managed, therefore, in accordance with the situation of each company and its employees. Productivity,Internal Communication,Communication Methods,Communication Problems,Information Overload,Produktivität,Interne Kommunikation,Kommunikationsmethode,Kommunikationsprobleme,Informationsflut

An Incremental Approach to Entity Resolution
We present a query-time entity resolution process that works
in a highly parallel fashion. We use the application MobEx
to showcase our process, which consists of a mobile client
and a server, where the server takes the role of a mediator
and carries out the resolution. Results are propagated to
the client as early as possible. Resolution results that are
produced later in the process are send as updates to the
client and thus improve earlier results
Defining the optimal animal model for translational research using gene set enrichment analysis
The mouse is the main model organism used to study the functions of human
genes because most biological processes in the mouse are highly conserved in
humans. Recent reports that compared identical transcriptomic datasets of
human inflammatory diseases with datasets from mouse models using traditional
gene‐to‐gene comparison techniques resulted in contradictory conclusions
regarding the relevance of animal models for translational research. To reduce
susceptibility to biased interpretation, all genes of interest for the
biological question under investigation should be considered. Thus,
standardized approaches for systematic data analysis are needed. We analyzed
the same datasets using gene set enrichment analysis focusing on pathways
assigned to inflammatory processes in either humans or mice. The analyses
revealed a moderate overlap between all human and mouse datasets, with average
positive and negative predictive values of 48 and 57% significant
correlations. Subgroups of the septic mouse models (i.e., Staphylococcus
aureus injection) correlated very well with most human studies. These findings
support the applicability of targeted strategies to identify the optimal
animal model and protocol to improve the success of translational research

The Song in the Tower of Academia
This essay discusses the emergence of the song and the album as significant modern genres. It also follows my experiences of writing and playing songs while seeking to combine critical theory, personal essay, song-writing, music production, and on-line publishing. I have been working toward a form of writing that theorist Walter Benjamin calls “montage practice.” My work is similar to hyper-text prose, and combines recorded original songs with prose writing, photography, and video clips to make an illustrated poetry/ music/ essay form that expands our traditional understanding of genre to include the song and its amplification through the internet. Advances in computer technology and internet accessibility make this possible. My ongoing project has grown in collaboration with a group of musicians, The Karma Refugees, who get together to write and record songs. It has developed into a website where my study of poetry, personal essay, critical theory, and cultural theory meet. This article will include recorded music performance and visual montage
Hypothesizing about Reading Recovery
Professor Opitz\u27s article is one of two in this special issue not written by a Reading Recovery trained teacher. The author has examined the literature on Reading Recovery and attempted to puzzle out the reason(s) for its success. Trained Reading Recovery teachers will find both points of agreement and disagreement, and many points on which to establish a discussion. Opitz writes, ...we do not, I believe, know why the program works. Yet as Clay suggests in this issue, answers are learned in the year-long and continuing contact training sessions. Our understanding of why the program works does not come from information or research alone, but from reflec tive practice. Reading Recovery teachers continue to re flect on their learning and practice, and implicit in the whole Reading Recovery process is ongoing research and evaluation. We have chosen the article because it reflects questions raised by those who have searched the literature on Reading Recovery and are contemplat ing involvement in the program. Professor Opitz\u27s hy pothesizing is based on wide reading in the literature about Reading Recovery, and should generate many powerful questions for the dialogue between trained Reading Recovery personnel and educators considering program implementation
Looking Back to Move Forward with Guided Reading
Guided reading is used in classrooms across the country and, while it is fairly new, it is anything but revolutionary. In this article, and in honor of the 50th volume of Reading Horizons, the authors take a look back at the 50-year history of this practice, provide a definition of guided reading, analyze what caused the practice to change, and discuss their own perspectives and predict the future of guided reading
