A Comparative Analysis of Initiatives and Adaptation Measures to Climate Change Undertaken in Poland and Western Europe

The analysis of the main initiatives for adaptation to climate change in selected countries of Western Europe and Poland relate to key issues mentioned in the strategic documents of the European Commission. In the United Kingdom the main emphasis is on the reduction of greenhouse gases as a form of preventive action, rather than adaptation to climate change. All strategies recognize the importance of raising public awareness about the negative effects of climate change and the importance of preparing adaptation measures, and stress the need to support the critical and most sensitive sectors of the European economy – forestry, agriculture and fisheries. The Polish strategy of adaptation to climate change does not deviate from the strategy of these countries of Western Europe, but it must be emphasized that this is only a document listing recommendations on the scope of operations of adaptation to climate change. Topological Implications of the Total Generalized Electron-Flow Magnetic Helicity Invariant in Electron Magnetohydrodynamics

Topological implications of the total generalized electron-flow magnetic helicity He in electron magnetohydrodynamics(EMHD) are explored. The invariance of He is shown to imply the invariance of the sum of the linkage of the magnetic field lines, the linkage of electron-flow vorticity field lines and the mutual linkage among these two sets of field lines. This result appears to support a change in the magnetic field topology and hence pave the way for magnetic reconnection in EMHD via a change in the concomitant electron-flow vorticity topology

Financial And Non-financial Factors Motivating Individual Donors To Support Public Benefit Organizations

This study is aimed at determining how the financial data of public benefit organizations (PBOs) affects donations received by them and if the donors use financial and non-financial information in order to donate. In order to achieve our aim we used different methods of research: quantitative research (econometric model and survey) and qualitative research (laboratory test). The research allowed us to draw the conclusion that Polish donors make very limited use of PBOs’ financial statements in the donation process and that non-financial information plays greater role for donors in making decisions to give charitable donations. The most important information is the organization's goals and descriptions of its projects. At the same time, many donors stated that they donated under the influence of people they knew. This article fits into the scope of world research on PBOs and uses the concept of civil society

Protection of valuable areas of local cultural heritage in sustainable development. Cultural parks in the Lodz Region

Cultural park is one of the forms, in which valuable areas and historical establishments are protected under the Polish law. Protection covers “space” in its entirety with elements of wild nature and man-made structures. Such spaces have been shaped by the history of human interventions into a unique and original cultural landscape, a complex spatial structure consisting of: passages (rivers, channels, roads, and borders), plains (meadows, fields, water reservoirs, and forests), and objects (natural objects and monuments). They ensure sustainability of development processes. In circumstances created by globalisation, investment pressure, and seeking short-term benefits, comprehensive protection of valuable cultural areas acquires special importance from the point of view of sustainable growth.
