Particle Nucleation Using Different Initiators in the Miniemulsion Polymerization of Styrene

In miniemulsion polymerization, droplets nucleation is the key factor to ensure the production of polymer particles with a desired composition. The influence of the initiation on droplets nucleation is even conflicting and it has not been completely considered. The result of employing different initiators systems on the nucleation mechanism and kinetics in the polymerization of stable styrene/polystyrene miniemulsions with varied droplets size is here discussed. The employed initiation systems provide all combinations between the phase (aqueous or organic) where initiation mainly occurs and the phase affinity of the produced radicals. Latexes with different contribution of the droplets nucleation were synthesized according to the employed initiation system and the droplets size of the miniemulsion. The results here presented could be used as a guide for choosing the initiation system to achieve the required contribution of the droplets nucleation.Fil: Ronco, Ludmila Irene. Theory of quasiballistic transport through nanocrystalline silicon dots

A model to describe the underlying physics of high-energy electron emission from a porous silicon diode is presented. The model is based on an atomistic tight-binding method combined with semiclassical Monte Carlo simulation. It well reproduces essential features of experimental findings. An initial acceleration region is shown to play a crucial role in generating quasiballistic electron emission

Automotive and aeronautical clusters in the São Paulo state’s Vale do Paraíba: a comparison of formation trajectories

This paper presents a comparison of the relevant characteristics of São Paulo State’s Vale do Paraíba automotive and aerospace clusters observed and analyzes the technological and productive chains strengthening. In order to accomplish it, the adopted methodological procedures are of qualitative nature, by means of documentary research. The results pointed out that the government established, in the mid-1945, the currently named Departamento de Ciência e Tecnologia Aeroespacial (DCTA), as a research and development (R&D) center and, by 1979, Embraer, a state-owned aeronautical construction industry. It was also sought to generate conditions so that domestic companies could emerge around and replace the dependency on aerospace systems and subsystems international suppliers by developing indigenous technological capacities. The automotive cluster under study started in the São Paulo State’s Vale do Paraíba (PPV) by means of the regionalization of multinational automotive construction firms migrated from ABC Paulista region looking for physical space for their growth, also relying on tax benefits. The survey results indicate that, in spite of fundamental differences with regard to their productive chains strenghtening processes, they showed similar adverse results

Producción de látex híbridos acrílicos/alquídicos

In this work, the production of high solids content hybrid acrylic/alkyd latexes by miniemulsion polymerization is discussed. First, the miniemulsification procedure to achieve colloidally stable hybrid nanodroplets is presented. Next, the efficient nucleation of most nanodroplets during the polymerization, avoiding other nucleation mechanisms is presented. Sviluppo di una procedura innovativa per la cubatura del volume della massa legnosa di fustaie di latifoglie mediante LiDAR

La tecnica di scansione aerea con strumentazione LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) è sempre più presa in considerazione ai fini di analisi e monitoraggio degli attributi dendrometrici dei popolamenti forestali, ma anche per stimare attributi complessi quali il volume della massa legnosa e la biomassa legnosa.
