Rapid Design and Manufacture of Ultralight Cellular Materials
This paper details the design, manufacture and testing of regular metallic lattice structures
with unit cell sizes in the range 0.8mm to 5mm and truss elements of 100-500 µm in diameter [1].
The structures were manufactured using Selective Laser Melting (SLM) technology from 316L
stainless steel. Compression tests have shown yield loadings of over 3.5kN despite being only
18mm by 18mm by 10mm in height, the results are favourably comparable to current
commercially available metallic foams. Software has been developed that creates slice files
without the use of CAD software or STL files and is capable of producing lattices within a
volume defined by a STL file.Mechanical Engineerin

The perception of the students of the Career of Medicine at University of Buenos Aires on the treatment of abortion in a medical education
The aim of this article is to investigate how the approach to abortion and attention in the Career of Medicine of the UBA. To do this, it will emphasize three dimensions. The first is the analysis of emerging Career in light of the laws and regulations that promote sexual rights as a fundamental part of Human Rights (HR). The second analysis is to emerging regarding such discontinuities and ruptures thereby be defined as Hegemonic Medical Model (MMH). Finally, he will inquire into policies, representations and practices regarding misoprostol. This research is qualitative. The corpus analyzed consists of semi-structured interviews to 24 students mentioned Career and national, Latin American and international medical organizations regulations. As preliminary results stand, first, the low permeability in the Career of the regulations, knowledge and pharmacological updates expressed in documents issued by national medical, Latin American and international agencies the past 10 years. Secondly, it highlights the predominance of silence or void in the curriculum in relation to abortion. This silence is not harmless, but has specific effects: not ensure compliance with the human rights framework in force in Argentina. Finally, ignorance about misoprostol and its broad utility in obstetrics and gynecology field reinforces the asymmetry in the medical / a-patient relationship and a sense of medicalized abortion, therefore, strengthens the MMH.Fil: Mines Cuenya, Ana. Risk of suicide during treatment with venlafaxine, italopram, fluoxetine, and dothiepin : retrospective cohort study
Objective To compare the risk of suicide in adults usingthe
antidepressant venlafaxine compared with citalopram,
fluoxetine, and dothiepin.
Design Retrospective cohort study. Setting UK General Practice Research Database. Participants 219 088 patients, aged 18-89 years, who were prescribed venlafaxine, citalopram, fluoxetine, or dothiepin from 1995 to 2005.
Main outcome measures Completed suicide and attempted
suicide.
Results Venlafaxine users had a higher burden of risk factors for suicide, includingprevious suicide attempts and proxies for severe depression or depression that was difficult to treat. In the analysis for completed suicides, unadjusted and adjusted hazard ratios for venlafaxine compared with citalopram were 2.44 (95% confidence interval 1.12 to 5.31) and 1.70 (0.76 to 3.80), for venlafaxine compared with fluoxetine were 2.85 (1.37 to 5.94) and 1.63 (0.74 to 3.59), and for venlafaxine compared with dothiepin were 2.54 (1.07 to 6.02) and 1.31 (0.53 to 3.25).
Compared with other study drugs, venlafaxine was also
associated with an increased risk of attempted suicide, but
adjustment for measured confounders substantially reduced the hazard ratios.
Conclusions Venlafaxine use was consistently associated with
higher risk of suicide compared with citalopram, fluoxetine, and dothiepin. Venlafaxine users had a higher burden of suicide risk factors, however, and adjustment for measured confounders substantially reduced the excess risks. Since the secondary data used in this analysis allowed only indirect and partial measurements of potential confounders, it is possible that residual confounding explains much, if not all, of the observed
excess risk
On the measurement of dimensional quality of titanium alloy micro lattice struts manufactured using selective laser melting
The paper describes the measurement of the surface quality, dimensional accuracy, and cross sectional circularity of titanium alloy ( Ti-6Al-4V ) micro struts manufactured using selective laser melting. This quality is related to manufacturing and materials characteristics

Bifurcation analysis of a normal form for excitable media: Are stable dynamical alternans on a ring possible?
We present a bifurcation analysis of a normal form for travelling waves in
one-dimensional excitable media. The normal form which has been recently
proposed on phenomenological grounds is given in form of a differential delay
equation. The normal form exhibits a symmetry preserving Hopf bifurcation which
may coalesce with a saddle-node in a Bogdanov-Takens point, and a symmetry
breaking spatially inhomogeneous pitchfork bifurcation. We study here the Hopf
bifurcation for the propagation of a single pulse in a ring by means of a
center manifold reduction, and for a wave train by means of a multiscale
analysis leading to a real Ginzburg-Landau equation as the corresponding
amplitude equation. Both, the center manifold reduction and the multiscale
analysis show that the Hopf bifurcation is always subcritical independent of
the parameters. This may have links to cardiac alternans which have so far been
believed to be stable oscillations emanating from a supercritical bifurcation.
We discuss the implications for cardiac alternans and revisit the instability
in some excitable media where the oscillations had been believed to be stable.
In particular, we show that our condition for the onset of the Hopf bifurcation
coincides with the well known restitution condition for cardiac alternans.Comment: to be published in Chao
