Devidend announcements and contagion effects: an investigation on the firm listed with Dhaka Stock Exchange
Changes in dividend convey information about the earnings of the announcing firm which in turn affect the price. Security price depends on current earnings, past earnings, and future prospect of earnings. Dividend relevant theory postulates that dividend policy, dividend initiation and changes in dividend carry information about the market value of the announcing firms. Accordingly, an unexpected increase in dividends conveys positive information about the future profitability of the firm and vice versa. Firm’s management is better informed than the market about the future prospects of their firm and therefore, their action relating to any financing decision conveys information to the investors. The principal purpose of this study was to examine the intra-industry information effects of announcements of dividend initiations of the firms associated with Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE). To test this hypothesis, we used Herfindahl Index and Tobin’s q ratio. The study found that the intra-industry effects of dividend revisions are apparent
On the oscillation of a second-order nonlinear di¤erential equations with damping
WOS: 000406745600033In this paper, we are concerned with the oscillations in forced second order nonlinear differential equations with nonlinear damping terms. By using clasical variational principle and averaging technique, new oscillation criteria are established, which revise, improve and extend some recent results. Furthermore our study answers the comment [16]. Examples are also given to illustrate the results
Nutrition Education in Vermont Public Schools
Introduction. Despite positive changes, childhood obesity and food insecurity remain prevalent across the country. Vermont is not immune to these issues. We set out to: research the level of nutrition education Vermont elementary schools provide their students, understand teacher perceptions of these programs, and recommend ways to fill identified gaps.
Methods. Our study is a cross-sectional survey of Vermont educators around nutrition education. The survey consisted of 17 questions, used LimeSurvey, and included demographic and nutrition education questions. The survey was distributed statewide through newsletters and list-servers.
Results. 64 responses met inclusion criteria. Vermont elementary school (K-6) teachers report a mean satisfaction score of 2.51 out of 5.0 for their schools\u27 current nutrition education programs. School nurses reported a score of 2.5 out of 5.0. Highest satisfaction scores included school administrators and health and wellness coordinators (3.3 out of 5.0). When comparing teachers to non-classroom educators (administrators and nutrition educators) data showed a significant difference between high satisfaction (3-5) and low satisfaction (1-2); (Fischer p = 0.009). Overall, Vermont elementary school teachers report a high level of knowledge about nutrition, (4.1/5.0), but a lower level of understanding in their students (2.5/5.0).
Conclusions. Given teacher perceptions regarding current school nutrition education programs, development and implementation of a state-wide nutrition education curriculum with dedicated teaching time may be warranted. Programs recommended by the CDC include Eat Well & Get Moving and Planet Health, designed by the Harvard School of Public Health. These could be adapted as a framework for Vermont.https://scholarworks.uvm.edu/comphp_gallery/1244/thumbnail.jp
How did a Housing First intervention improve health and social outcomes among homeless adults with mental illness in Toronto? Two-year outcomes from a randomised trial.
OBJECTIVES: We studied the impact of a Housing First (HF) intervention on housing, contact with the justice system, healthcare usage and health outcomes among At Home/Chez Soi randomised trial participants in Toronto, a city with an extensive service network for social and health services for individuals who are experiencing homelessness and mental illness. METHODS: Participants identified as high needs were randomised to receive either the intervention which provided them with housing and supports by an assertive community treatment team (HF+ACT) or treatment as usual (TAU). Participants (N=197) had in-person interviews every 3 months for 2 years. RESULTS: The HF+ACT group spent more time stably housed compared to the TAU group with the mean difference between the groups of 45.8% (95% CI 37.1% to 54.4%, p<0.0001). Accounting for baseline differences, HF+ACT group showed significant improvements over TAU group for community functioning, selected quality-of-life subscales and arrests at some time points during follow-up. No differences between HF+ACT and TAU groups over the follow-up were observed for health service usage, community integration and substance use. CONCLUSIONS: HF for individuals with high levels of need increased housing stability and selected health and justice outcomes over 2 years in a city with many social and health services. Prioritization of crew activities to apply autonomous technologies
This master thesis is performed to understand the current challenges/heavy workloads on vessels as well as their criticality evaluations and suggest some autonomous technologies as possible solutions in order to increase vessel`s safety and efficiency with eliminating or reducing the current challanges/heavy workloads
Generalized height-diameter models for Populus tremula L. stands
Using permanent sample plot data, selected tree height and diameter functions were evaluated for their predictive abilities for Populus tremula stands in Turkey. Two sets of models were evaluated. The first set included five models for estimating height as a function of individual tree diameter; the second set also included six models for estimating height as a function of individual tree diameter and some standlevel- attributes. The inclusion of the stand-level-attributes (basal area, dominant height, dominant diameter, number of trees) and BAL index (which simultaneously indicates the relative position of a tree and stand density) into the base height-diameter models increased the accuracy of prediction for P.tremula. As a result, the second set models gave high performance than the first models. On average, by including stand level attributes, root mean square values were reduced by 21 cm. In the second set, the best results were obtained by the Schnute’s function. In this function, dominant diameter and dominant height independent variables in addition to tree diameter were found significant at 0.01 significant level (R2= 0.949, 1.226 . = y x S , P < 0.01). Root mean square was reduced 35 cm Schnute’sfunction alone. Thus, a generalized height-diameter model based on Schnute’s function was developed for P. tremula L. stands in Turkey. Based on the residual plots and fit statistics, the model can be recommended for estimating tree heights for P. tremula L. in Turkey. The model coefficients are documented for future use

Navigating power and impoliteness in criminal court discourse
This study uses an interactional pragmatic approach to examine impoliteness in Turkish High Criminal Court proceedings, offering an alternative perspective compared to the Anglo-American contexts typically explored in legal discourse research. Grounded in (Culpeper, Jonathan. 1996. Towards an anatomy of impoliteness. Journal of Pragmatics 25. 349–367.) impoliteness super strategies, the analysis draws from 45-min audio recordings of seven criminal trials, focusing on impoliteness during the examination-in-chief. The findings reveal a significant register clash, especially from a defendant who deviates from formal legal norms through misalignment, mock impoliteness, threats, and profanity. This disruption challenges courtroom decorum, affects power dynamics, and influences trial progression and interaction, underscoring the complex interplay between institutional authority and individual behavior, which shapes overall (im)politeness in the courtroom
