The image of American in southern african literature
Dissertação de Mestrado em Estudos Americanos apresentada à Universidade AbertaAbstract - This dissertation is an attempt to trace and explain the image of ‘America’ in the Southern African literature from a psychoanalytic — and, more specifically, from a Lacanian — perspective. The paper argues that whereas in the works from the 1950s there was a wholly positive imaginary identification with the African American other, with its music, its political struggles, its achievements in the sports arena, in later works there is a symbolic renunciation of all things American. It is argued that these shifts in identification were also a response to the political events taking place both in the United States and in the region
A Hybrid Proposed Imperialist Competitive Algorithm with Conjugate Gradient Approach for Large Scale Global Optimization
This paper presents a novel hybrid imperialist competitive algorithm called ICA-CG algorithm. Such an algorithm combines the evolution ideas of the imperialist competitive algorithm and the classic optimization ideas of the conjugate gradient, based on the compensation for solving the large scale optimization. In the ICA-CG algorithm, the process of every iteration is divided into two stages. In the first stage, the randomly, rapidity and wholeness of the imperialist competitive Algorithm are used. In the second stage, one of the common optimization classical techniques, that called conjugate gradient to move imperialist countries, is used. Experimental results for five well known test problems have shown the superiority of the new ICA-CG algorithm, in large scale optimization, compared with the classical GA, ICA, PSO and ABC algorithms, with regard to the convergence of speed and quality of obtained solutions
Modification of Non-Linear Constrained Optimization
In this paper we have investigated a new initial parameter, the new parameter is to make balance between interior suitable for inequality constrained exterior method (suitable for equality and inequality constrained) for non-linear constrained optimization. The new algorithm is programmed to solve some standard problems in non-linear optimization method. The results are too effective when compared with Barriar –Penalty algorithm
Using "Filter" Approach to Solve the Constrained Optimization Problems
In this paper, the solution of constrained nonlinear programming problems by a Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) is considered. The aim of the present work is to promote global convergence without the need to use a penalty and Barrier functions in the mixed interior-exterior point method. Instead, a new concept of a “filter” that aims to minimize the objective function and its approach that allows appoint to be accepted if reduces the objective function and satisfies the constraint violation function. If that point is rejected a new point is tested
