The present study aimed to explore the extent of carrying out self-assessment practices by leaders in private schools in Amman in accordance with the standards of the Arab Organization for Quality Assurance of Education. To meet the study’s goals, a sixty two item questionnaire was developed. This questionnaire sheds a light on six areas. The reliability and validity of the questionnaire were measured. The questionnaire forms were distributed to 256 principals. Those principals were selected randomly. They were selected from the private schools located in Amman. It was found that the extent of carrying out self-assessment practices by leaders in private schools in Amman is high. It was found that there are statistically significant differences –at the statistical significance level of (a=0.05)- between respondents’ attitudes which can be attributed to gender. The latter differences are for the favor of females. It was found that there isn’t any statistically significant difference –at the statistical significance level of (a=0.05)- between respondents’ attitudes which can be attributed to experience. The researchers recommend providing the principals in private schools with training courses about the way of forming groups for carrying out self-assessment. Such training courses must promote knowledge about the way of carrying out self-assessment in accordance with the standards of the Arab Organization for Quality Assurance of Education. Relevance and the curriculum :the case of the Yemen Arab Republic

Get PDF
The question of relevance in education in general, and in the curriculum in\ud particular, is a major concern in present-day educational discourse. Often\ud the interpretation of the concept is far too narrow, emphasizing\ud vocational issues and ignoring more general ones, and concentrating on\ud immediate rather than long-term problems. Such an interpretation, if\ud rigidly adhered to, would result in an education irrelevant to present needs\ud and changes in the field of education and in society. For the purpose of\ud this thesis, relevance in education is taken as relating to a number of\ud issues connected with the quality of education and the quality of life: the\ud relationship of the content and system of education to the socio-economic\ud and cultural environment in both the local and the global dimensions;\ud relationships within the structure of education itself, as well as issues\ud concerned with concepts of knowledge in relation to culture; with\ud methodology; with the interests and stages of development of the learners.\ud The whole process needs to be viewed in the context of the nature and\ud stages of human development.\ud The diffuse nature of the issue of relevance makes it necessary to find an\ud organizing conceptual framework that will act as a base for a curriculum\ud that incorporates external and internal, individual and social, local and\ud global aspects of relevance. Such a framework is provided by a fusion of\ud the concept of "Basic Human Needs" as derived from an analysis of the\ud theories of Abraham Maslow, with some central educational principles, to\ud draw up a list of the learning needs most conducive to present\ud requirements for the improvement of the quality of life of the individual,\ud of the society and of humanity at large.\u

The Structural Equation Modeling SEM using SmartPLS.V3 software was used in this study to model the priority of CSFs of program management under four categories (program planning, strategy of the organization, stakeholders, and construction program performance) associated with Regional Development Programs RDPs in Iraqi provinces. Based on the literature review, the identified CSFs of program management have been explored through a systematic review approach. This model investigated the relationship and effect of CSFs on program management of regional development. The measurement model underwent three iterations to fulfil the threshold criterion, which included Cronbach's a being more than 0.7, CR being greater than 0.7, and AVE being more significant than 0.5. As a result, the model met the convergent validity. For every path modelling and hypothesis, the structural model is evaluated. The model produced a GoF of (0.524), regarded as sufficiently high to be considered for obtaining adequate global PLS model validity. The model's global GoF performance was also assessed, and the findings met the criteria. It is clear from the final model that there may be a connection between the main program management groups, as shown by the path model confirmed

A new ligand [N-(4-nitrobenzoylamino)-thioxomethyl] phenylalanine is synthesized by reaction of 4-nitrobenzoyl isothiocyanate with phenylalanine (1:1). It is characterized by micro elemental analysis (C.H.N.S.), FT-IR, (UV-Vis) and 1H and 13CNMR spectra. Some metals ions complexes of this ligand were prepared and characterized by FT-IR, UV-Visible spectra, conductivity measurements, magnetic susceptibility and atomic absorption. From results obtained, the following formula [M(NBA)2] where M2+ = Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pd, Cd and Hg, the proposed molecular structure for these complexes as tetrahedral geometry, except copper and palladium complexes are have square planer geometry

A study of the physiological disorders of slimming drugs on people who abuse them

Get PDF
Recently, slimming drugs have been used to get rid of excess weight and obesity, which consist of chemical compounds of different compositions that vary in the degree of their safety on health from one compound to another and have dangerous side effects on human life. 75 blood samples were collected from people who take weight-loss drugs after being asked about their use of these drugs, and 25 samples from people who did not take weight-loss drugs, a control group. The research samples were divided into categories of withdrawal, the duration of abuse is less than a year, (1-2 years), (2-4 years) and (4-6 years). Laboratory tests were conducted on them from W.B.C count white blood cell, W.B.C differential, Packed Cell Volume P.C.V. , R.B.C count red blood cell, serum Total protein and hemoglobin Hb. The search results showed a significant decrease in W.B.C count (P<0.05) in the abused groups in the period (1-2) and it was (mm³ 7000) while the control sample was (mm³ 82800) either in the periods (2-4) and (4-6) It was low (6977.7 mm³) compared to the control sample. It also showed a significant increase in the rate of basophil and eosinophil preparation (P<0.05) in all periods, while a significant decrease occurred in the rate of lymphocyte. It also found a significant decrease in R.B.C, serum total protein and PCV. As for Hb, there was a significant decrease (P<0.05) in drug users compared to control samples for all periods. We conclude that slimming drugs have harmful effects on those who take them and may cause greater harm in the future in addition to the possibility of their effect on other organs and systems in the body if other studies focus on that

Of all the humerus fractures in adults, 30% are of the distal end of the bone. The dual plate is strong biomechanically. The current study was conducted at Al-Yarmouk Teaching Hospital, Baghdad, Iraq, between July 1, 2019 to July 1, 2021 to study the role of dual plating in intra-articular distal humerus fractures. Included were 20 adult patients, all with intra articular fracture of the distal humerus and treated and evaluated by open reduction and internal fixation technique using dual locking plating. Clinically the final results were assessed using the Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS). The final results were observed to be excellent in 12 (60 %), good in 6 (30%), fair in 2 (10 %) patients, with no poor results recorded. One patient had transient ulnar neuropraxia which recovered spontaneously after six weeks and one patient developed superficial skin infection which responded to antibiotic treatment. The mean of MEPS was significantly higher after six months and one year than that after two weeks, two months, and four months of operation. Background: SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has had many significant impacts within the surgical realm, and surgeons have been obligated to reconsider almost every aspect of daily clinical practice. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study reported in compliance with the CHERRIES guidelines and conducted through an online platform from June 14th to July 15th, 2020. The primary outcome was the burden of burnout during the pandemic indicated by the validated Shirom-Melamed Burnout Measure. Results: Nine hundred fifty-four surgeons completed the survey. The median length of practice was 10 years; 78.2% included were male with a median age of 37 years old, 39.5% were consultants, 68.9% were general surgeons, and 55.7% were affiliated with an academic institution. Overall, there was a significant increase in the mean burnout score during the pandemic; longer years of practice and older age were significantly associated with less burnout. There were significant reductions in the median number of outpatient visits, operated cases, on-call hours, emergency visits, and research work, so, 48.2% of respondents felt that the training resources were insufficient. The majority (81.3%) of respondents reported that their hospitals were included in the management of COVID-19, 66.5% felt their roles had been minimized; 41% were asked to assist in non-surgical medical practices, and 37.6% of respondents were included in COVID-19 management. Conclusions: There was a significant burnout among trainees. Almost all aspects of clinical and research activities were affected with a significant reduction in the volume of research, outpatient clinic visits, surgical procedures, on-call hours, and emergency cases hindering the training. Trial registration: The study was registered on clicaltrials.gov "NCT04433286" on 16/06/2020

Background: Balancing opioid stewardship and the need for adequate analgesia following discharge after surgery is challenging. This study aimed to compare the outcomes for patients discharged with opioid versus opioid-free analgesia after common surgical procedures. Methods: This international, multicentre, prospective cohort study collected data from patients undergoing common acute and elective general surgical, urological, gynaecological, and orthopaedic procedures. The primary outcomes were patient-reported time in severe pain measured on a numerical analogue scale from 0 to 100% and patient-reported satisfaction with pain relief during the first week following discharge. Data were collected by in-hospital chart review and patient telephone interview 1 week after discharge. Results: The study recruited 4273 patients from 144 centres in 25 countries; 1311 patients (30.7%) were prescribed opioid analgesia at discharge. Patients reported being in severe pain for 10 (i.q.r. 1-30)% of the first week after discharge and rated satisfaction with analgesia as 90 (i.q.r. 80-100) of 100. After adjustment for confounders, opioid analgesia on discharge was independently associated with increased pain severity (risk ratio 1.52, 95% c.i. 1.31 to 1.76; P < 0.001) and re-presentation to healthcare providers owing to side-effects of medication (OR 2.38, 95% c.i. 1.36 to 4.17; P = 0.004), but not with satisfaction with analgesia (beta coefficient 0.92, 95% c.i. -1.52 to 3.36; P = 0.468) compared with opioid-free analgesia. Although opioid prescribing varied greatly between high-income and low- and middle-income countries, patient-reported outcomes did not. Conclusion: Opioid analgesia prescription on surgical discharge is associated with a higher risk of re-presentation owing to side-effects of medication and increased patient-reported pain, but not with changes in patient-reported satisfaction. Opioid-free discharge analgesia should be adopted routinely
