Emirati-Accented Speaker Identification in each of Neutral and Shouted Talking Environments
This work is devoted to capturing Emirati-accented speech database (Arabic
United Arab Emirates database) in each of neutral and shouted talking
environments in order to study and enhance text-independent Emirati-accented
speaker identification performance in shouted environment based on each of
First-Order Circular Suprasegmental Hidden Markov Models (CSPHMM1s),
Second-Order Circular Suprasegmental Hidden Markov Models (CSPHMM2s), and
Third-Order Circular Suprasegmental Hidden Markov Models (CSPHMM3s) as
classifiers. In this research, our database was collected from fifty Emirati
native speakers (twenty five per gender) uttering eight common Emirati
sentences in each of neutral and shouted talking environments. The extracted
features of our collected database are called Mel-Frequency Cepstral
Coefficients (MFCCs). Our results show that average Emirati-accented speaker
identification performance in neutral environment is 94.0%, 95.2%, and 95.9%
based on CSPHMM1s, CSPHMM2s, and CSPHMM3s, respectively. On the other hand, the
average performance in shouted environment is 51.3%, 55.5%, and 59.3% based,
respectively, on CSPHMM1s, CSPHMM2s, and CSPHMM3s. The achieved average speaker
identification performance in shouted environment based on CSPHMM3s is very
similar to that obtained in subjective assessment by human listeners.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures. arXiv admin note: text overlap with

Animation for Visualization of Some Algebraic Concepts
Presenting the sciences and teaching the courses in an interactive way is one of the most
attractive aspects of the web and educational technology. Many mathematical softwares
demonstrate how these technologies make advance topics more accessible and complex
mathematical concepts more understandable. The common problems in mathematics
teaching process; is the difficulties, undergraduate students encounter in understanding
math concepts, theories and problem solving. These problems can be overcome through
using creativity in developing math teaching tools and styles. The objective of this project
is to use macromedia Flash to make many confusing and complex math concepts simple,
visualized and interesting and also to develop a part of a package of animated and
visualized mathematical courses. Flash ability and flexibility are the features of this tool
which help the designer to develop demonstrating of algebra concepts in a virtual
environment. This research will use Macromedia Flash for developing a visualized
package of algebra course (Introduction to Algebra (MTK 3001)
A simulation study of a parametric mixture model of three different distributions to analyze heterogeneous survival data
In this paper a simulation study of a parametric mixture model of three different distributions is considered to model heterogeneous survival data. Some properties of the proposed parametric mixture of Exponential, Gamma and Weibull are investigated. The Expectation Maximization Algorithm (EM) is implemented to estimate the maximum likelihood estimators of three different postulated parametric mixture model parameters. The simulations are performed by simulating data sampled from a population of three component parametric mixture of three different distributions, and the simulations are repeated 10, 30, 50, 100 and 500 times to investigate the consistency and stability of the EM scheme. The EM Algorithm scheme developed is able to estimate the parameters of the mixture which are very close to the parameters of the postulated model. The repetitions of the simulation give parameters closer and closer to the postulated models, as the number of repetitions increases, with relatively small standard errors
Impact Of Using Long Lasting Insecticidal Treated Nets (LLIN) And Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS), Single And In Combination On Insecticide Resistant Anopheles Arabiensis Patton (Diptera: Culicidae) In Republic Of The Sudan
Pengawalan vektor malaria di Sudan bergantung kepada penggunaan kelambu yang diimpregnasikan dengan insektisid yang tahan lama (LLINs) dan penyemburan residu dalam rumah (IRS) di kawasan perumahan
Malaria vector control in Sudan depends on the deployment of long-lasting insecticidal treated nets (LLINs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS) in the domestic environmen
Study of an entropy-consistent Navier–Stokes flux
This paper presents a study to achieve discrete entropy consistency using artificial and physical diffusion mechanisms. The study begins with the one-dimensional viscous Burgers equation, specifically looking at the shock results of entropy-conserved fluxes combined with a few choices of artificial and physical viscous diffusions. The approach is then repeated for the Navier–Stokes equations. Overall, it is demonstrated that the artificial viscosity (or entropy) terms are still needed in addition to physical viscosity to achieve entropy consistency in shock predictions, although one of the artificial terms can be dropped for high viscosity or low Reynolds number flow
Empowering local communities through family business in tourism in Nigeria: a multi-stakeholder model
Micro and Small family owned tourism businesses are arguably reliable vehicles for the economic transformation and the improvement in the livelihood of rural dwellers. With the numerous benefits associated with their development, they have been given less consideration as a promising way of alleviating poverty in rural peripheral tourism destinations in developing countries and Nigeria in particular. In order to investigate the phenomenon, semi structured in-depth interviews were conducted with 38 members of the existing micro family owned tourism businesses in Obudu mountain resort, 10 staffs of government and private agencies and a focus group with local communities’ inhabitants. The study finds inadequacy of disposable capital and extreme seasonality as the main factors affecting the growth and sustainability of family owned tourism businesses in the mountain destination. While the low capital base impedes industry specific training and effective marketing, extreme seasonality experienced impact severely on the entire business and family system as the owners depend solely on the businesses for survival. As a way of promoting the development of family owned tourism businesses in developing countries for rural poverty alleviation and communities’ well-being sustainability, a multi-stakeholder model was developed to guide the existing and prospective tourism entrepreneurs, the government and private organizations
Accessibility factors for totally blind users of Palestinian universities websites
The World Wide Web (Web) is considered to be one of the sources of information and services.Universities use their webpages to
communicate with stakeholders. Most of the related researchers have discovered significant faults with respect to accessibility of university websites, especially for blind users. In order to determine the totally blind requirements for designing websites, this study conducted a comprehensive literature review and based it on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, WCAG 2.0. The study revealed important factors in designing an accessible university webpage prototype. An online questionnaire was constructed to evaluate the accessibility of the prototype from blind users’ perspective. From the evaluation of 16 visually impaired participants, it was found that the prototype was highly accessible among the totally blind where the mean score was 4.19. A regression analysis test was also utilized to determine the relationship between the items of the questionnaire and the main principles of accessibility. The results showed that there were statistically significant differences between these items. In conclusion, the accessibility factors are indirectly validated, and could be used to develop an accessible university website for blind users
