Infinite Dimensional Forward-Backward Stochastic Differential Equations and the KPZ Equation

Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation is a quasilinear stochastic partial differential equation(SPDE) driven by a space-time white noise. In recent years there have been several works directed towards giving a rigorous meaning to a solution of this equation. Bertini, Cancrini and Giacomin have proposed a notion of a solution through a limiting procedure and a certain renormalization of the nonlinearity. In this work we study connections between the KPZ equation and certain infinite dimensional forward-backward stochastic differential equations. Forward-backward equations with a finite dimensional noise have been studied extensively, mainly motivated by problems in mathematical finance. Equations considered here differ from the classical works in that, in addition to having an infinite dimensional driving noise, the associated SPDE involves a non-Lipschitz (namely a quadratic) function of the gradient. Existence and uniqueness of solutions of such infinite dimensional forward-backward equations is established and the terminal values of the solutions are then used to give a new probabilistic representation for the solution of the KPZ equation

Cultural values and international migration

Las migraciones internacionales son uno de los fenómenos actuales más controvertidos. Es innegable que dicho fenómeno se vive en Europa con cierto recelo y preocupación debido a sus consecuencias. Las personas que viven en Europa representan una gran variedad cultural y personal; las diferencias culturales y sociales afectan en gran medida a la propia diversidad de los valores occidentales, que se ven influenciados por los procesos migratorios que acontecen en toda Europa. Esta tesis quiere centrar y destacar la importancia que los valores culturales tienen en la explicación de la aceptación o el rechazo de inmigrantes en los diferentes países europeos de nuestra investigación. Los estudios que presentamos están basados en el cuestionario realizado a través de la Encuesta Social Europea (2002) y del Cuestionario de Valores Personales de S. Schwartz (Schwartz, 1992, 2001). Finalmente, resaltaremos la importancia de algunos valores culturales –Armonía o Igualitarismo-, como objetivos a desarrollar en cualesquiera de las iniciativas y políticas migratorias que desarrolle la Unión Europea, pudiendo trabajar así sobre las dificultades que la inmigración representa para Europa.Immigration is one of the most controversial social issues debated nowadays. Therefore, social and cultural gaps that can affect the basic values of the western societies seem to be inevitable due to the dimensions of the current migration phenomenon. The present studies are based on the European Social Survey Questionnaire (2002), and the Portrait Values Questionnaire (Schwartz, 1992, 2001) and focuses on the relevance of cultural values to explain the acceptance or rejection of the immigrant.. Finally, we emphasize the importance of cultural values -like Harmony or Egalitarianism- for any initiative or social policy which aimes at reducing the problems concerning inmigration in the European context
