    The Violation of Cooperative Principle a Case of Humorous Verbal Cartoon in Kompas

    This research is aimed at describing the types of maxim violated in humorous verbal cartoon in Kompas, to find out the type of the maxims that is dominantly violated in it and to find out the causes. The method of research is descriptive qualitative research. The data is analyzed by interpreting the conversations and analyzing them based on the types of the maxim violated. From the data, it was found that the violation of the maxim of quality is 12 (20.33%), the violation of the maxim of quantity is 25 (42.37%), the violation of manner is 15 (25.42%), and the violation of the maxim of relevance is 7 (11.86%). The frequency and the percentage shows that maxim of quantity is the dominant type of maxim which is violated

    European retrievable carrier (Eureca) and evolutionary space carrier for microgravity, Earth observation and technology demonstration

    The Spacelab relatively short stay-time in orbit has led to consideration of the European Retrievable Carrier (EURECA) concept as a reusable carrier. The EURECA concept is a free-flying carrier of experiments which is launched and recovered by the space shuttle. It is commensurate with the size of payloads that can be economically developed in Europe and combines the advantages of Spacelab (high mass and power capability, recovery) with those of a free flyer (extended operating time in a non-polluted environment). The launch of the first EURECA mission is scheduled for October 1987. The Eureca spacecraft will be deployed from the Shuttle cargo bay in orbit, will operate in a free-flying mode for about six months, and will then be retrieved, together with its payloads, returned to Earth by the Space Shuttle and prepared for the next mission. The first mission of EURECA is dedicated to research in the fields of life sciences and material sciences. The experimental hardware of the first mission consist of a variety of processin chambers for crystal growth and equipment for biological investigations viz plant growth and protein crystallization, and there is the possibility to perform experiments in the field of exobiology

    The Properties and Gaseous Environments of Powerful Classical Double Radio Galaxies

    The properties of a sample of 31 very powerful classical double radio galaxies with redshifts between zero and 1.8 are studied. The source velocities, beam powers, ambient gas densities, total lifetimes, and total outflow energies are presented and discussed. The rate of growth of each side of each source were obtained using a spectral aging analysis. The beam power and ambient gas density were obtained by applying the strong shock jump conditions to the ends of each side of the source. The total outflow lifetime was obtained by applying the power-law relationship between the beam power and the total source lifetime derived elsewhere for sources of this type, and the total outflow energy was obtained by combining the beam power and the total source lifetime. Composite profiles were constructed by combining results obtained from each side of each source. The composite profiles indicate that the ambient gas density falls with distance from the central engine. The source velocities, beam powers, total lifetimes, and total energies seem to be independent of radio source size. This is consistent with the standard model in which each source grows at a roughly constant rate during which time the central engine puts out a roughly constant beam power. The fact that the total source lifetimes and energies are independent of radio source size indicates that the sources are being sampled at random times during their lifetimes.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, to appear in "Extragalactic Jets: Theory and Observation from Radio to Gamma Ray", eds.     Genetic and humoral autoimmunity markers of type 1 diabetes: from theory to practice

    Type 1 A diabetes mellitus (T1AD) results from the autoimmune destruction of the insulin producing pancreatic beta-cells. The largest contribution to genetic susceptibility comes from several genes located in the major histocompatibility complex on chromosome 6p21.3 (IDDM1 locus), accounting for at least 40% of the family aggregation of this disease. The highest-risk human leukocyte antigen HLA genotype for T1AD is DR3-DQA1*0501-DQB1*0201/DR4-DQA1*0301-DQB1*0302, whereas -DR15-DQA1*0102-DQB1*0602 haplotype is associated with dominant protection. Three other T1D loci associated with predisposition are the Variable Number for Tandem Repeats (VNTR) near the insulin gene (IDDM2), which accounts to 10% of genetic susceptibility, the Cytotoxic T-Lymphocyte-associated Antigen (CTLA-4)(IDDM 12) and the Protein Tyrosine Phosphatasis Nonreceptor-type 22 (PTPN22). Many other gene suspected to predispose to autoimmunity have been investigated. T1AD is frequently associated with autoimmune thyroid disease, celiac disase, Addison´s disease and many other autoimmune diseases, characterized by organ-specific autoantibodies and related to the same genetic background. Using these autoantibodies, organ specific autoimmunity may be detected before the development of clinical disease preventing significant morbidity.O diabetes melito tipo 1 auto-imune (DM1A) resulta da destruição auto-imune seletiva das células-beta pancreáticas produtoras de insulina. O principal determinante genético de suscetibilidade para o DM1A está em genes do complexo principal de histocompatibilidade, no cromossomo 6p211.3 (locus IDDM1), responsável por 40% ou mais da agregação familiar dessa doença. O maior risco é conferido pelo genótipo do antígeno leucocitário humano HLA-DR3-DQA1* 0501-DQB1*0201/DR4-DQA1*0301-QB1*0302, e o haplótipo HLA-DR15-DQA1* 0102-DQB1*0602 é associado à proteção. Três outros loci relacionados à predisposição a DM1A são o número variável de freqüências repetidas (VNTR) do gene da insulina (IDDM2), que confere 10% da suscetibilidade genética, o antígeno-4 associado ao linfócito T citotóxico (CTLA-4) e o protein tyrosine phosphatasis nonreceptor-type 22 (PTPN22). Muitos outros genes suspeitos de predispor à auto-imunidade estão sendo investigados. O DM1A é freqüentemente associado com doença auto-imune tiroidiana, doença celíaca, doença de Addison e várias outras doenças auto-imunes, caracterizadas por auto-anticorpos órgãos-específicos, relacionados aos mesmos determinantes genéticos.     Analytical and experimental investigations of dual‐plane particle image velocimetry

    In its classical form particle image velocimetry (PIV) extracts two components of the flow velocity vector by measuring the displacement of tracer particles within a double‐pulsed laser light sheet. The method described in this paper is based on the additional recording of a third exposure of the tracer particles in a parallel light sheet, which is slightly displaced with respect to the first one. The particle images resulting from these three exposures are stored on separate frames. The locations of the correlation peaks, as obtained by cross‐correlation methods, are used to determine the projections of the velocity vectors onto the plane between the two light sheets. The amplitudes of these peaks are used to obtain information about the velocity component perpendicular to the light‐sheet planes. The mathematical background of this method is described. Numerical simulations show the influence of the main parameters (e.g., light‐sheet thickness, light‐sheet displacement and out‐of‐plane flow component) on the resolution and reliability of the new method. A new recording procedure and its results will be shown to demonstrate the ease of operation when applying this technique to liquid flows

    Video quality estimation of {DCCP} streaming over wireless networks

    International audienceThis paper describes a streaming architecture simulation model above Network Simulator 2 (NS2) which allows to define specific transport properties. Multimedia contents are specific because they are time-dependent and they can undergo small deterioration if necessary. We simulate such a congestion control that has the ability to decrease the multimedia quality in case of network congestion in order to decrease packet losses and packet delivery delays. We integrate this video congestion control inside DCCP (Datagram Congestion Control Protocol) and TFRC (TCP Friendly Rate Control). The transcoding of the multimedia contents is realized thanks to the NetMoVie simulation model which is an RTP mixer. We compare the adaptive transport solution to the classic transport solution without any adaptive mechanism. The Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) of the received multimedia contents is measured and compared for better visualization
