Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Associated with a Dental Implant: a case report and literature review
Objectives: Prosthodontic rehabilitation using dental implants has become a common practice in dentistry at the
present time. Although severe complications related to dental osseointegrated implants are uncommon, in recent
years several cases of oral squamous cell carcinoma adjacent to dental implants have been published.
Study Design: A 67-year-old edentulous woman developed an oral squamous cell carcinoma around right mandibular
implant about 12 months after receiving dental implants. The treatments involve chemotherapy, explantation
of the implants and radiotherapy.
Result and Conclusions: The use of endosseous implants has been associated with a low risk for the development
of cancer. However, this case report serves as evidence to the importance of careful screening at routine dental examinations
especially if the patient suffers from peri-implantitis, any mucosal erosion or discoloration, leukoplakia
around implant, pain, implant loosening, bone loss around implant, mucosal erythema, and soft tissue inflammation
Fabrication of chelating diethylenetriaminated pan micro and nano fibers for heavy metal removal
In this study, commercial acrylic fibers were modified with diethylenetriamine to prepare metal chelating fibers. The effects of process parameters on the efficiency of the reaction were investigated. FTIR spectroscopy and TGA analysis were used to confirm the chemical changes made to the fibers during the reaction. The ability of the modified fibers for removal of Pb (II), Cu (II) and Ce (IV) ions from aqueous media was determined. The modified fibers showed a slight decrease in mechanical properties compared to raw ones. Furthermore, the acrylic micro fibers were electrospun to nanofibers and the ability of modified nanofibers for the adsorption of the metal ions was studied
Event-Driven Network Programming
Software-defined networking (SDN) programs must simultaneously describe
static forwarding behavior and dynamic updates in response to events.
Event-driven updates are critical to get right, but difficult to implement
correctly due to the high degree of concurrency in networks. Existing SDN
platforms offer weak guarantees that can break application invariants, leading
to problems such as dropped packets, degraded performance, security violations,
etc. This paper introduces EVENT-DRIVEN CONSISTENT UPDATES that are guaranteed
to preserve well-defined behaviors when transitioning between configurations in
response to events. We propose NETWORK EVENT STRUCTURES (NESs) to model
constraints on updates, such as which events can be enabled simultaneously and
causal dependencies between events. We define an extension of the NetKAT
language with mutable state, give semantics to stateful programs using NESs,
and discuss provably-correct strategies for implementing NESs in SDNs. Finally,
we evaluate our approach empirically, demonstrating that it gives well-defined
consistency guarantees while avoiding expensive synchronization and packet
buffering

Highly efficient transfection of human induced pluripotent stem cells using magnetic nanoparticles.
PurposeThe delivery of transgenes into human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs) represents an important tool in cardiac regeneration with potential for clinical applications. Gene transfection is more difficult, however, for hiPSCs and hiPSC-CMs than for somatic cells. Despite improvements in transfection and transduction, the efficiency, cytotoxicity, safety, and cost of these methods remain unsatisfactory. The objective of this study is to examine gene transfection in hiPSCs and hiPSC-CMs using magnetic nanoparticles (NPs).MethodsMagnetic NPs are unique transfection reagents that form complexes with nucleic acids by ionic interaction. The particles, loaded with nucleic acids, can be guided by a magnetic field to allow their concentration onto the surface of the cell membrane. Subsequent uptake of the loaded particles by the cells allows for high efficiency transfection of the cells with nucleic acids. We developed a new method using magnetic NPs to transfect hiPSCs and hiPSC-CMs. HiPSCs and hiPSC-CMs were cultured and analyzed using confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, and patch clamp recordings to quantify the transfection efficiency and cellular function.ResultsWe compared the transfection efficiency of hiPSCs with that of human embryonic kidney (HEK 293) cells. We observed that the average efficiency in hiPSCs was 43%±2% compared to 62%±4% in HEK 293 cells. Further analysis of the transfected hiPSCs showed that the differentiation of hiPSCs to hiPSC-CMs was not altered by NPs. Finally, robust transfection of hiPSC-CMs with an efficiency of 18%±2% was obtained.ConclusionThe difficult-to-transfect hiPSCs and hiPSC-CMs were efficiently transfected using magnetic NPs. Our study offers a novel approach for transfection of hiPSCs and hiPSC-CMs without the need for viral vector generation

Diglossic Mixing of Imperfective Verb Morphemes in Egyptian Arabic
Morpho-syntactic features of Modern Standard Arabic mix intricately with those of Egyptian Colloquial Arabic in spoken discourse. I study the lexical, phonological and syntactic features of imperfective verb morphemes using a corpus of nearly 1400 verbs collected from a total of three hours of spontaneous speech in religious, political/economic and sports interviews on four Egyptian satellite TV channels. The computational analysis of the data shows that morphemes from both varieties of Arabic combine in principled ways. Syntactic considerations play a critical role with regard to the code-switching between the negative marker and the verb. Directionality bias from colloquial to standard is evident in constraining the code-switch between the aspectual prefix, person prefix, and verb stem morphemes
A rare presentation of hydatid cyst in abdominal wall: case report
Echinococcus species cause hydatidosis, which is a verminosis. Echinococcus vogeli results in polycystic hydatid disease, and wild dogs are the definitive hosts. In fact, wild dogs and rats are the most common hosts. The transit of Echinococcus eggs through the liver and lungs is hypothesized to result in hydatid cyst formation in the subcutaneous tissue. In 1.5 percent of patients with hydatidosis, hydatid cysts of the subcutaneous tissue have been documented. They ranged from 0.6 percent to 2.6 percent. We here report a case of hydatid cyst of the abdominal wall which was surgically treated. A 30-year-old lady had been experiencing pain associated with lump in her right lower abdomen for three months. On clinical examination, an enlargement in the left side measuring 4 x 3 cm was discovered. Imaging was performed preoperatively to rule out other differential diagnoses. Ultrasound was performed, followed by computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, which revealed multilocular cystic mass measuring 9 x 8.5 x 4.7 cm along the right lower anterior abdominal wall muscles (with cysts inside cysts), which suggested hydatid cyst. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of hydatid cyst, after the mass was surgically removed. Treatment with albendazole was continued. Hydatid cyst of the subcutaneous tissue is uncommon, with only a few occurrences recorded in the literature. This study describes a case of hydatid cyst in an uncommon place. Imaging confirmed the diagnosis, and the tumour was surgically removed. It ruptured during surgery and was successfully treated with hypertonic saline and albendazole. Then it was adequately managed. Given that subcutaneous hydatid cyst is rare, it's vital to keep in mind that it can be a possible cause of abdominal wall mass. Specific imaging test is essential to correctly locate and remove it. It must be treated with anthelmintic before surgery, in order to reduce the risk of contamination due to cyst rupture during surgery. Subcutaneous hydatid cyst should be considered one of the differential diagnoses for soft tissue masses, in particular in patients living in endemic areas. To rule out alternative possibilities, proper imaging test is essential. The treatment of choice is complete excision
