Frequently hypercyclic translation semigroups
Frequent hypercyclicity for translation -semigroups on weighted spaces
of continuous functions is investigated. The results are achieved by
establishing an analogy between frequent hypercyclicity for the translation
semigroup and for weighted pseudo-shifts and by characterizing frequent
hypercyclic weighted pseudo-shifts in spaces of vanishing sequences. Frequent
hypercylic translation semigroups in weighted -spaces are also
characterized
Did "right-to-work" work for Idaho?
The Idaho legislature passed their right-to-work law in 1986. Idaho provides an interesting case study for the effects of the law because it adopted the law during a period in which unionization had already declined substantially in the United States. This paper provides evidence on the industrial organization consequences of right-to-work laws by jointly examining the trends in Idaho’s unionization rate and industrial performance before and after 1986, using neighboring states as controls. We find that unionization declined substantially starting a few years before the passage of the law, and this decline persisted thereafter. Furthermore, the post-law growth rates in manufacturing employment and the number of establishments far exceeded their pre-law counterparts. As a result, Idaho gradually became more like an “average” right-to-work law state in terms of its unionization rate and the employment share of manufacturing, diverging from the patterns exhibited by states without a right-to-work law.Idaho ; Employment - Idaho ; Regional economics
The diffusion of electronic business in the U.S.
We provide a recent account of the diffusion of electronic business in the U.S. economy using new data from the U.S. Bureau of the Census. We document the extent of the diffusion in three main sectors of the economy: retail, services, and manufacturing. For manufacturing, we also analyze plants' patterns of adoption of several Internet-based processes. We conclude with a look at the future of the Internet's diffusion and a prospect for further data collection by the U.S. Census Bureau.Electronic commerce
Pair-distribution functions of two-temperature two-mass systems: Comparison of MD, HNC, CHNC, QMC and Kohn-Sham calculations for dense hydrogen
Two-temperature, two-mass quasi-equilibrium plasmas may occur in electron-ion
plasmas,nuclear-matter, as well as in electron-hole condensed-matter systems.
Dense two-temperature hydrogen plasmas straddle the difficult partially -
degenerate regime of electron densities and temperatures which are important in
astrophysics, in inertial-confinement fusion research, and other areas of warm
dense matter physics. Results from Kohn-Sham calculations and QMC are used to
benchmark the procedures used in classical molecular-dynamics simulations, HNC
and CHNC methods to derive electron-electron and electron-proton pair -
distribution functions. Then, nonequilibrium molecular dynamics for two
-temperature, two-mass plasmas are used to obtain the pair distribution. Using
these results, the correct HNC and CHNC procedures for the evaluation of
pair-distribution functions in two-temperature two-mass two-component charged
fluids are established. Results for a mass ratio of 1:5, typical of
electron-hole fluids, as well as for compressed hydrogen are presented. PACS

Tree-structure Expectation Propagation for Decoding LDPC codes over Binary Erasure Channels
Expectation Propagation is a generalization to Belief Propagation (BP) in two
ways. First, it can be used with any exponential family distribution over the
cliques in the graph. Second, it can impose additional constraints on the
marginal distributions. We use this second property to impose pair-wise
marginal distribution constraints in some check nodes of the LDPC Tanner graph.
These additional constraints allow decoding the received codeword when the BP
decoder gets stuck. In this paper, we first present the new decoding algorithm,
whose complexity is identical to the BP decoder, and we then prove that it is
able to decode codewords with a larger fraction of erasures, as the block size
tends to infinity. The proposed algorithm can be also understood as a
simplification of the Maxwell decoder, but without its computational

Disentangling the entangled: Observations and analysis of the triple non-coeval protostellar system VLA1623
Commonplace at every evolutionary stage, Multiple Protostellar Systems (MPSs)
are thought to be formed through fragmentation, but it is unclear when and how.
The youngest MPSs, which have not yet undergone much evolution, provide
important constraints to this question. It is then of interest to disentangle
early stage MPSs. In this letter we present the results of our work on VLA1623
using our observations and archival data from the Submillimeter Array (SMA).
Our continuum and line observations trace VLA1623's components, outflow and
envelope, revealing unexpected characteristics. We construct the SED for each
component using the results of our work and data from literature, as well as
derive physical parameters from continuum and perform a simple kinematical
analysis of the circumstellar material. Our results show VLA1623 to be a triple
non-coeval system composed of VLA1623A, B & W, with each source driving its own
outflow and unevenly distributed circumstellar material. From the SED, physical
parameters and IR emission we conclude that VLA1623A & W are Class 0 and I
protostars, respectively, and together drive the bulk of the observed outflow.
Furthermore, we find two surprising results, first the presence of a rotating
disk-like structure about VLA1623A with indications of pure Keplerian rotation,
which, if real, would make it one of the first evidence of Keplerian disk
structures around Class 0 protostars. Second, we find VLA1623B to be a bonafide
extremely young protostellar object between the starless core and Class 0
