Correspondingly, that Slavic and Persians‟s stamps are different give important clues about the subject. The stamps ,which are called names such as hands on hips, cleat, gulsayra, abundance, cocklebur and cross in excavations carried out in Turkey, have been used in Great Turkestan geography and The Western Siberian Turks since known history. Therefore, the stamps which used on carpet- rugs in Turkey, the main goddness of Çatalhoyuk; statues of rams instead of explaning with Aqqoyunlu and Karakoyunlu with the movement from the oldest known Turkish history is obvious that the disclosure would be more meaningful. These must be assessed as the primary sources by history printers and employees in socio- cultural issues because Etnographic artifacts traditionally made and passed to younger generations of ancestors. Tracking Radiometer Calibration Stability Using Three-Point Onboard Calibration

    Get PDF
Absolute calibration of radiometers is implemented onboard using one hot and one cold external calibration targets. However, two-point calibration methods are unable to differentiate calibration drifts and associated errors from fluctuations in receiver gain and offset. This paper investigates the use of onboard three-point calibration algorithm for microwave radiometers to track calibration drifts and characterize associated errors in Earth and Space measurements of the radiometer

Trabajo presentado al IX Robotics Science and Systems: "Workshop on Robotic Monitoring" (RSS-WRM), celebrado en Berkeley (US) del 12 al 16 de julio de 2014.-- et al.Compared to machines, humans are intelligent and dexterous; they are indispensable for many complex tasks in areas such as flexible manufacturing or scientific experimentation. However, they are also subject to fatigue and inattention, which may cause errors. This motivates automated monitoring systems that verify the correct execution of manipulation sequences. To be practical, such a monitoring system should not require laborious programming. The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Community’s Seventh Framework Programme FP7/2007-2013 (Specific Programme Cooperation, Theme 3, Information and Communication Technologies) under grant agreement no. 269959, IntellAct.Peer Reviewe

Estimation of Logit Models for Different Types of Freight in Urban Freight Transport: A New Discrete Choice Model Group for Istanbul

    Get PDF
Freight transportation plays a significant role in urban transport and contributes substantially to environmental issues due to the use of heavy vehicles. However, compared to passenger transport, decision-makers often overlook the impact of freight transport despite its contribution to congestion. Existing transportation studies mainly examine freight vehicle preferences at a general level, needing a comprehensive understanding of freight transportation. To address this gap, through the framework we propose in this study, we present a discrete modeling-based methodology to identify the factors that determine freight vehicle preferences for shipping and sender firms with the ultimate motivation of exploring the significant factors to ensure more efficient freight transportation. Two of the four freight model structures created gave outputs highly accepted in the literature. Interestingly, the findings deviated from the existing literature, revealing that the choice of freight vehicles is influenced by different packaging variables depending on the freight type being transported. The presentation of the authors' names and (or) special characters in the title of the pdf file of the accepted manuscript may differ slightly from what is displayed on the item page. A Different Nested Logit Model Structure Consistent with Random Utility Theory for Various Freight Types – A Case Study for Istanbul

Freight transport significantly contributes to urban traffic but is often overlooked by decision-makers compared to passenger transport. Conventional transportation modelling studies often use aggregate approaches for freight transport, undoubtedly due to the difficulty of data collection. However, the nature of freight transportation is much more complex. For this reason, examining the determinants of freight vehicle preferences with discrete approaches is crucial for the contributions that can be put forward, especially in local studies. To address this apparent gap in the study of local disaggregated approaches to freight transport, we present a discrete modelling-based methodology to investigate the factors that determine freight vehicle preferences for shippers and senders. The estimated nested logit model is constructed with the RU2 approach, the second part of random utility theory, thus avoiding the theoretical inconsistencies that arise when generic coefficients are used. As a result, the model structures provided satisfactory results compared to the literature. It was revealed that the factors affecting freight vehicle choice preferences were influenced by packaging preferences and differed according to freight groups. This local study is the first nested logit study for freight modelling in Istanbul and it is aimed to shed light on future national studies

Experimental investigation of time-dependent local scour downstream of a stepped channel

    Get PDF
In this study, temporal variation of local scour occurring at the downstream part of the stepped channel were investigated experimentally. The experimental tests were carried out in a stepped flume with a height of 2.4 m. The width of the rectangular flume was 0.10 m and the length of the stilling basin was 2.12 m. Bed material was placed in a sediment box with a height of 24 cm and length of 2.48 m, without any compaction. Experiments were carried out by using bed material of 4 different grain size distributions, 2 different sill heights and 6 different flow rates. Two empirical equations which include Shields parameter (θ) and densimetric Froude particle number (Fd) were proposed by using the experimental findings to predict the temporal variation of the scour depth. The R2 (coefficient of determination) values were computed for both proposed equations as 0.866 and 0.865. The scatter index (SI) values were also determined and computed as 8.73% and 8.25%. The fit of the equations was also determined by means of Fisher’s test. Keywords: stepped channel, local scour, temporal variatio

A Preliminary Study of Three-Point Onboard External Calibration for Tracking Radiometric Stability and Accuracy

Absolute calibration of radiometers is usually implemented onboard using one hot and one cold external calibration targets. However, two-point calibration methods are unable to differentiate calibration drifts and associated errors from fluctuations in receiver gain and offset. Furthermore, they are inadequate to characterize temporal calibration stability of radiometers. In this paper, a preliminary study with linear radiometer systems has been presented to show that onboard external three-point calibration offers the means to quantify calibration drifts in the radiometer systems, and characterize associated errors as well as temporal stability in Earth and space measurements. Radiometers with three external calibration reference targets operating two data processing paths: i.e., (1) measurement path and (2) calibration validation path have been introduced. In the calibration validation data processing path, measurements of one known calibration target is calibrated using the other two calibration references, and temporal calibration stability and possible calibration temperature drifts are analyzed. In the measurement data processing path, the impact of the calibration drifts on Earth and space measurements is quantified and bounded by an upper limit. This two-path analysis is performed through calibration error analysis (CEA) diagrams introduced in this paper

Does board diversity affect the cost of debt financing? Empirical evidence from Turkey

    Get PDF
[ArticleInPress]Purpose – This study aims to investigate the effects of board characteristics on the cost of debt for nonfinancial companies in the Turkish capital markets. Design/methodology/approach – Using a sample of 211 non-financial companies listed on Borsa Istanbul, this study examines how chairperson gender and board characteristics affect the cost of debt by using panel data analysis over the period of 2016–2020. A system generalized method of moments model is also applied to test the endogeneity issue. Findings – The findings show that the presence of female chairperson and female directors on board reduces the cost of debt and the perceptions of default risk by fund providers, while board independence and board size do not have a significant impact on the cost of debt. The results provide insightful information for companies and policymakers. Companies can alter board composition through gender diversity, while policymakers can introduce new policies in encouraging the presence of female directors on boards. Originality/value – This study primarily enriches the literature on the effect of board diversity on debt financing cost in a leading emerging market, enabling companies in emerging markets to better mitigate agency costs and finance their investment through effective board composition. Second, it provides evidence that financial institutions consider companies with chairwomen and women directors on the boards less risky and charge them less for debt financing than they do for companies with man chairperson. Finally, the results support policymakers to take actions to increase female presence on board
