On the use of low-cost computer peripherals for the assessment of motor dysfunction in Parkinson’s disease – Quantification of bradykinesia using target tracking tasks
The potential of computer games peripherals to measure the motor dysfunction in Parkinson’s diseases is assessed. Of particular interest is the quantification of bradykinesia. Previous studies used modified or custom haptic interfaces, here an unmodified force feedback joystick and steering wheel are used with a laptop. During testing an on screen cursor moves in response to movements of the peripheral, the user has to track a continuously moving target (pursuit tracking), or move to a predetermined target (step tracking). All tasks use movement in the horizontal axis, allowing use of joystick or steering wheel. Two pursuit tracking tasks are evaluated, pseudo random movement, and a swept frequency task. Two step tracking tasks are evaluated, movement between two or between two of five fixed targets. Thirteen patients and five controls took part on a weekly basis. Patients were assessed for bradykinesia at each session using standard clinical measures. A range of quantitative measures was developed to allow comparison between and within patients and controls using ANOVA. Both peripherals are capable of discriminating between controls and patients, and between patients with different levels of bradykinesia. Recommendations for test procedures and peripherals are given
Optimal Land Use for Rainfall-Runoff Transformation in Wae Ruhu Watershed
Flooding hit the island of Ambon in 2012 and 2013. Many analyzes has been developed to estimate the cause of the flooding. The study aims topredict optimal land management for reducing run-off. The method is simulation of CN value based on spatial analysis on watershed characteristics. The rainfall can\u27t be managed by watershed. The level of run-off can be determined by CN value that depends on the type of land cover. The resultshows that the land cover has changed about 90 ha, with the higher rainfall intensity is 2.118 in 2013. The result of simulation indicated that tochange of shrub and bare land, mix dryland forest, and secondary dryland forest with agroforestry. Agroforestry can decrease run-off amount 0,86%.The change of land cover and high rainfall are the main factors that caused the flooding in 2012 and 2013. It is necessary to add a rainfallobservation station so that the observation of surface flow can be done well
"Propeller" Regime of Disk Accretion to Rapidly Rotating Stars
We present results of axisymmetic magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the
interaction of a rapidly-rotating, magnetized star with an accretion disk. The
disk is considered to have a finite viscosity and magnetic diffusivity. The
main parameters of the system are the star's angular velocity and magnetic
moment, and the disk's viscosity, diffusivity. We focus on the "propeller"
regime where the inner radius of the disk is larger than the corotation radius.
Two types of magnetohydrodynamic flows have been found as a result of
simulations: "weak" and "strong" propellers. The strong propeller is
characterized by a powerful disk wind and a collimated magnetically dominated
outflow or jet from the star. The weak propeller have only weak outflows. We
investigated the time-averaged characteristics of the interaction between the
main elements of the system, the star, the disk, the wind from the disk, and
the jet. Rates of exchange of mass and angular momentum between the elements of
the system are derived as a function of the main parameters. The propeller
mechanism may be responsible for the fast spinning-down of the classical T
Tauri stars in the initial stages of their evolution, and for the spinning-down
of accreting millisecond pulsars.Comment: 18 pages, 16 figures, ApJ (accepted), added references, corrected

Coupling Between Periodic and Aperiodic Variability in SAX J1808.4-3658
We detect a significant broadening in the wings of the 401 Hz peak in the
power spectrum of the accreting millisecond binary pulsar SAX J1808.4-3658.
This feature is consistent with the convolution of the red noise present in the
power spectrum with the harmonic line. We conclude that the flux modulated by
the spin period shows aperiodic variability similar to the red noise in the
overall flux, suggesting such variability also originates at the magnetic caps
close to the neutron star surface. This is analogous to the results found in
some longer period, higher magnetic field pulsators in high mass X-ray
binaries.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures, to be published in The Astrophysical Journa
Encoding One Logical Qubit Into Six Physical Qubits
We discuss two methods to encode one qubit into six physical qubits. Each of
our two examples corrects an arbitrary single-qubit error. Our first example is
a degenerate six-qubit quantum error-correcting code. We explicitly provide the
stabilizer generators, encoding circuit, codewords, logical Pauli operators,
and logical CNOT operator for this code. We also show how to convert this code
into a non-trivial subsystem code that saturates the subsystem Singleton bound.
We then prove that a six-qubit code without entanglement assistance cannot
simultaneously possess a Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) stabilizer and correct an
arbitrary single-qubit error. A corollary of this result is that the Steane
seven-qubit code is the smallest single-error correcting CSS code. Our second
example is the construction of a non-degenerate six-qubit CSS
entanglement-assisted code. This code uses one bit of entanglement (an ebit)
shared between the sender and the receiver and corrects an arbitrary
single-qubit error. The code we obtain is globally equivalent to the Steane
seven-qubit code and thus corrects an arbitrary error on the receiver's half of
the ebit as well. We prove that this code is the smallest code with a CSS
structure that uses only one ebit and corrects an arbitrary single-qubit error
on the sender's side. We discuss the advantages and disadvantages for each of
the two codes.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures, 4 table
