    Wavelets in Field Theory

We advocate the use of Daubechies wavelets as a basis for treating a variety of problems in quantum field theory. This basis has both natural large volume and short distance cutoffs, has natural partitions of unity, and the basis functions are all related to the fixed point of a linear renormalization group equation.Comment: 42 pages, 2 figures, corrected typo

Effects of the loading direction on high strain rate behavior of woven graphite/epoxy composites

    Get PDF
Effects of the loading direction on high strain rate behavior of cylindrical woven graphite/epoxy composites are presented. Compressive split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) was used for high strain rate experiments. Cylindrical specimens were loaded diametrically and transversely at the impact energies of 67 J, 163 J, and 263 J. Micro Laser Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used for surface characterization. It is observed that diametrically loaded specimens show permanent plastic deformation with high ductility resulting in a catastrophic failure while transversely loaded specimens exhibit viscoplastic deformation with some recoverable damage. As a result of this, Raman peak shifted to higher values for the diametrically loaded fibers whereas almost no change was observed in the Raman shift of transversely loaded fibers

Finitely Many Dirac-Delta Interactions on Riemannian Manifolds

    Get PDF
This work is intended as an attempt to study the non-perturbative renormalization of bound state problem of finitely many Dirac-delta interactions on Riemannian manifolds, S^2, H^2 and H^3. We formulate the problem in terms of a finite dimensional matrix, called the characteristic matrix. The bound state energies can be found from the characteristic equation. The characteristic matrix can be found after a regularization and renormalization by using a sharp cut-off in the eigenvalue spectrum of the Laplacian, as it is done in the flat space, or using the heat kernel method. These two approaches are equivalent in the case of compact manifolds. The heat kernel method has a general advantage to find lower bounds on the spectrum even for compact manifolds as shown in the case of S^2. The heat kernels for H^2 and H^3 are known explicitly, thus we can calculate the characteristic matrix. Using the result, we give lower bound estimates of the discrete spectrum.Comment: To be published in JM

Ultrasonic Laboratory Study of Full Waveform Acoustic Logs in Boreholes with Fractures

A set of ultrasonic experiments was carried out to determine the effects of horizontal and vertical fractures on full waveform acoustic logs. Boreholes of 1 cm diameter were drilled in aluminum blocks. Measurements were made with horizontal fractures of 0.05 mm, 1.0 mm, 2.5 mm, and 4.5 mm width and a vertical fracture of 1.0 mm width. The horizontal fractures of even the smallest thickness significantly attenuate the P, S, and pseudo-Rayleigh waves. The Stoneley waves are the least attenuated, and attenuation increases with increasing fracture width. The vertical fracture attenuates Stoneley waves most significantly. Both scattering and fluid flow playa role in attenuation. The results may qualitatively be extended to inclined open fractures, where we expect strong attenuation of P and S waves and moderate attenuation of Stoneley waves.Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Customer Satisfaction in Inbound Call Centers: A Study on the Role of Responsiveness and Assurance in Perceived Service Quality

The aim of this study is to analyze customer satisfaction in Inbound Call Centers and examine the relationship between Responsiveness and Assurance in Perceived Service Quality. The researchers proposed to study theoretical foundations on customer satisfaction and service quality dimensions adopting SERVQUAL Model to investigative the impact of service quality dimensions on customer satisfaction to meet the research objective. The association between perceived service quality and customer satisfaction will assist call center management to clarify the role of service quality dimensions in perceived service quality through customer point of view. The respondents for this study are the customers who receive service from call center of Telecommunication service providers in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. This research tested the effect of service quality dimensions on customer satisfaction and reported that both dimensions (responsiveness and assurance) had positive impact on customer satisfaction. Research results explore that Assurance has more impact on customer satisfaction than Responsiveness

Public Health Services (Puskesmas) is one of the health care which obligatory needed at least one in every district. In total of 37 Public Health Services in Semarang Municipality, only 26 Public Health Services already been rated for its Tobacco Free Areas implementation (research by KPKTR and FKM Unimus)\. The aim of this research is to analyze the implementation of Local Government Regulation Number 3 Year 2013 regarding Tobacco Free Areas in Public Health Services of Semarang Municipality. This research used quantitative method with cross-sectional approach, whereas 111 respondents were the samples gathered with total sampling method. The data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis. Univariate analysis showed in numbers that the good communication 66,7%, adequate resources 53,2%, agreeing disposition 53,2% and appropriate bureaucratic structure 79,3%. The result from crosstab shows that good implementation due to good communication 56.8 %, good implementation with adequate resources 64.4 %, good implementation with stakeholders' approval 62.7 % and good implementation with appropriate bureaucracy structure by 58.0 %. Chi Square test (α=0,05) was used in bivariate analysis, showed the correspondent variables were resources (ρ value 0,011), disposition (ρ value 0,031), and bureaucratic structure (ρ value 0,034). Meanwhile there is no correlation with communication (ρ value 0,253). Multivariate analysis showed that resources, disposition, and bureaucratic structure is the dominant factors of the implementation of Local Government Regulation Number 3 Year 2013 regarding Tobacco Free Areas in Public Health Services of Semarang Municipality with R2 value 20,1%

Wavelet Methods in the Relativistic Three-Body Problem

In this paper we discuss the use of wavelet bases to solve the relativistic three-body problem. Wavelet bases can be used to transform momentum-space scattering integral equations into an approximate system of linear equations with a sparse matrix. This has the potential to reduce the size of realistic three-body calculations with minimal loss of accuracy. The wavelet method leads to a clean, interaction independent treatment of the scattering singularities which does not require any subtractions.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures, corrected referenc
