Frustration driven lattice distortion; an NMR investigation of Y2Mo2O7

We have investigated the 89Y NMR spectrum and spin lattice relaxation, T1, in the magnetically frustrated pyrochlore Y2Mo2O7. We find that upon cooling the spectrum shifts, and broadens asymmetrically. A detailed examination of the low T spectrum reveals that it is constructed from multiple peaks, each shifted by a different amount. We argue that this spectrum is due to discrete lattice distortions, and speculate that these distortions relieve the frustration and reduce the system's energy.Comment: To be published in Phys. Rev. R-matrix Floquet theory for laser-assisted electron-atom scattering

    Get PDF
A new version of the R-matrix Floquet theory for laser-assisted electron-atom scattering is presented. The theory is non-perturbative and applicable to a non-relativistic many-electron atom or ion in a homogeneous linearly polarized field. It is based on the use of channel functions built from field-dressed target states, which greatly simplifies the general formalism.Comment: 18 pages, LaTeX2e, submitted to J.Phys.

Yukawa Hierarchy Transfer Based on Superconformal Dynamics and Geometrical Realization in String Models

We propose a scenario that leads to hierarchical Yukawa couplings and degenerate sfermion masses at the same time, in the context of extra-dimensional models, which can be naturally embedded in a wide class of string models. The hierarchy of Yukawa couplings and degeneracy of sfermion masses can be realized thanks to superconformal gauge dynamics. The sfermion mass degeneracy is guaranteed by taking the superconformal fixed point to be family independent. In our scenario, the origin of Yukawa hierarchy is attributed to geometry of compactified dimensions and the consequent volume dependence of gauge couplings in the superconformal sectors. The difference in these gauge couplings is dynamically transferred to the hierarchy of the Yukawa couplings. Thus, our scenario combines a new dynamical approach and the conventional geometrical approach to the supersymmetric flavor problem.Comment: 12 pages, latex, no figur

Distribution of fractal dimensions at the Anderson transition

We investigated numerically the distribution of participation numbers in the 3d Anderson tight-binding model at the localization-delocalization threshold. These numbers in {\em one} disordered system experience strong level-to-level fluctuations in a wide energy range. The fluctuations grow substantially with increasing size of the system. We argue that the fluctuations of the correlation dimension, D2D_2 of the wave functions are the main reason for this. The distribution of these correlation dimensions at the transition is calculated. In the thermodynamic limit (LL\to \infty) it does not depend on the system size LL. An interesting feature of this limiting distribution is that it vanishes exactly at D2max=1.83D_{\rm 2max}=1.83, the highest possible value of the correlation dimension at the Anderson threshold in this model

Sfermion masses in Nelson-Strassler type of models: SUSY standard models coupled with SCFTs

    Get PDF
We study soft SUSY breaking parameters in the Nelson-Strassler type of models: SUSY standard models coupled with SCFTs. In this type of models, soft SUSY breaking parameters including sfermion masses can be suppressed around the decoupling scale of SCFTs. We clarify the condition to derive exponential suppression of sfermion masses within the framework of pure SCFTs. Such behavior is favorable for degeneracy of sfermion masses. However, the realistic sfermion masses are not quite degenerate due to the gauge couplings and the gaugino masses in the SM sector. We show the sfermion mass spectrum obtained in such models. The aspect of suppression for the soft SUSY breaking parameters is also demonstrated in an explicit model. We also give a mechanism generating the μ\mu-term of the Electro-Weak scale by a singlet field coupled with the SCFT.Comment: 28 pages, 8 figures, LaTeX file; corrected typos and references adde
