Electrospinning polypropylene with an amino acid as a strategy to bind the antimicrobial peptide Cys-LC-LL-37
Hospital isolation gowns are increasingly competitive, with brands and manufacturers contesting consumer preferences. The textile materials in contact with the skin can acquire secretions and multiresistant microorganisms, causing discomfort and health risks, respectively. A new nanofibrous substrate---polypropylene grafted with l-Cys---was developed with an increased crystallinity, providing its surface with --SH hooks necessary to efficiently cross-link the antimicrobial peptide Cys-LC-LL-37 in order to protect against nosocomial pathogens and their spread to community. Radiating Shear-Free Gravitational Collapse with Charge
We present a new shear free model for the gravitational collapse of a
spherically symmetric charged body. We propose a dissipative contraction with
radiation emitted outwards. The Einstein field equations, using the junction
conditions and an ansatz, are integrated numerically. A check of the energy
conditions is also performed. We obtain that the charge delays the black hole

Burden, coping, physical symptoms and psychological morbidity in caregivers of functionally dependent family members
Objectives: this study assessed burden, coping, physical symptoms and psychological morbidity in caregivers of functionally dependent family members. Methods: fifty family caregivers
completed self-reported measures of burden, physical symptoms, psychological morbidity and coping strategies. Results: there was a significant negative correlation between coping strategies and the different clinical variables, as well as a significant positive correlation between coping
strategies and duration of care. It appears that the stronger bond between caregiver and family member leads to a poorer use of adaptive coping strategies. It also appears that the deterioration of the relationship between them and the lower perceived self-efficacy are more prominente in caregivers of family members with cognitive impairment, indicating that caregivers with
family members without cognitive impairment face fewer difficulties. Conclusion: these results emphasize the need for interventions to include coping strategies, since they are important in
reducing caregivers’ burden, psychological morbidity and physical symptoms
Analysis of the Maize dicer-like1 Mutant, fuzzy tassel, Implicates MicroRNAs in Anther Maturation and Dehiscence
Sexual reproduction in plants requires development of haploid gametophytes from somatic tissues. Pollen is the male gametophyte and develops within the stamen; defects in the somatic tissues of the stamen and in the male gametophyte itself can result in male sterility. The maize fuzzy tassel (fzt) mutant has a mutation in dicer-like1 (dcl1), which encodes a key enzyme required for microRNA (miRNA) biogenesis. Many miRNAs are reduced in fzt, and fzt mutants exhibit a broad range of developmental defects, including male sterility. To gain further insight into the roles of miRNAs in maize stamen development, we conducted a detailed analysis of the male sterility defects in fzt mutants. Early development was normal in fzt mutant anthers, however fzt anthers arrested in late stages of anther maturation and did not dehisce. A minority of locules in fzt anthers also exhibited anther wall defects. At maturity, very little pollen in fzt anthers was viable or able to germinate. Normal pollen is tricellular at maturity; pollen from fzt anthers included a mixture of unicellular, bicellular, and tricellular pollen. Pollen from normal anthers is loaded with starch before dehiscence, however pollen from fzt anthers failed to accumulate starch. Our results indicate an absolute requirement for miRNAs in the final stages of anther and pollen maturation in maize. Anther wall defects also suggest that miRNAs have key roles earlier in anther development. We discuss candidate miRNAs and pathways that might underlie fzt anther defects, and also note that male sterility in fzt resembles water deficit-induced male sterility, highlighting a possible link between development and stress responses in plants.ECU Open Access Publishing Support Fun

Approaches in biotechnological applications of natural polymers
Natural polymers, such as gums and mucilage, are biocompatible, cheap, easily available and non-toxic materials of native origin. These polymers are increasingly preferred over synthetic materials for industrial applications due to their intrinsic properties, as well as they are considered alternative sources of raw materials since they present characteristics of sustainability, biodegradability and biosafety. As definition, gums and mucilages are polysaccharides or complex carbohydrates consisting of one or more monosaccharides or their derivatives linked in bewildering variety of linkages and structures. Natural gums are considered polysaccharides naturally occurring in varieties of plant seeds and exudates, tree or shrub exudates, seaweed extracts, fungi, bacteria, and animal sources. Water-soluble gums, also known as hydrocolloids, are considered exudates and are pathological products; therefore, they do not form a part of cell wall. On the other hand, mucilages are part of cell and physiological products. It is important to highlight that gums represent the largest amounts of polymer materials derived from plants. Gums have enormously large and broad applications in both food and non-food industries, being commonly used as thickening, binding, emulsifying, suspending, stabilizing agents and matrices for drug release in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. In the food industry, their gelling properties and the ability to mold edible films and coatings are extensively studied. The use of gums depends on the intrinsic properties that they provide, often at costs below those of synthetic polymers. For upgrading the value of gums, they are being processed into various forms, including the most recent nanomaterials, for various biotechnological applications. As desigualdades sociais e a saúde bucal nas capitais brasileiras
ResumoApesar da melhoria das condições de vida dos brasileiros, ainda persiste um panorama de iniquidades em saúde bucal. Este estudo ecológico avaliou a relação das condições socioeconômicas e de política de saúde pública com as de saúde bucal nas capitais brasileiras. Foi realizada análise fatorial com os indicadores de condições socioeconômicas, revelando dois fatores comuns: deprivação econômica e condição sociossanitária. Em seguida, executou-se análise de regressão linear múltipla para os indicadores de saúde bucal (média CPO-D 12 anos, média de dentes perdidos e taxa de população livre de cárie) com os dois fatores em comum e a fluoretação da água de abastecimento. A análise de regressão linear múltipla para o CPO-D das capitais foi estimado pelas condições sociossanitárias e fluoretação, ajustado pela deprivação econômica; enquanto que o modelo para a média de dentes perdidos foi estimado apenas pela fluoretação e deprivação econômica, e, por fim, o modelo para a taxa da população livre de cárie nas capitais brasileiras foi estimado pela condição econômica e sociossanitária ajustadas pelo abastecimento de água fluoretada. Portanto, os resultados apontam a necessidade de ações sociais que impactem nas condições de vida da população para redução da cárie dentária
