The rate of period change in DAV stars

Grids of DAV star models are evolved by \texttt{WDEC}, taking the element diffusion effect into account. The grid parameters are hydrogen mass log(MH/MM_{H}/M_{*}), helium mass log(MHe/MM_{He}/M_{*}), stellar mass MM_{\rm *}, and effective temperature TeffT_{\rm eff} for DAV stars. The core compositions are from white dwarf models evolved by \texttt{MESA}. Therefore, those DAV star models evolved by \texttt{WDEC} have historically viable core compositions. Based on those DAV star models, we studied the rate of period change (P˙(k)\dot{P}(k)) for different values of H, He, MM_{\rm *}, and TeffT_{\rm eff}. The results are consistent with previous work. Two DAV stars G117-B15A and R548 have been observed around forty years. The rates of period change of two large-amplitude modes were obtained through O-C method. We did asteroseismological study on the two DAV stars and then obtained a best-fitting model for each star. Based on the two best-fitting models, the mode identifications (ll, kk) of the observed modes for G117-B15A and R548 are consistent with previous work. Both the observed modes and the observed P˙\dot{P}s can be fitted by calculated ones. The results indicate that our method of evolving DAV star models is feasible.Comment: 20pages, 12 figures, 6 tables, accepted by RAA on 3/18, 201

Phase-Resolved Timing Analysis of GRS 1915+105 in Its {\rho} State

We made a phase-resolved timing analysis of GRS 1915+105 in its {\rho} state and obtained detailed {\rho} cycle evolutions of the frequency, the amplitude and the coherence of low-frequency quasi-periodic oscillation (LFQPO). We combined our timing results with the spectral study by Neilsen et al. to perform an elaborate comparison analysis. Our analyses show that the LFQPO frequency does not scale with the inner disk radius, but it is related to the spectral index, indicating a possible correlation between the LFQPOs and the corona. The LFQPO amplitude spectrum and other results are naturally explained by tying the LFQPO to the corona. The similarities of the spectra of variability parameters between the LFQPO from {\rho} state and those from more steady states indicate that the LFQPOs of GRS 1915+105 in very different states seem to share the same origin.Comment: 21 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in Ap

_In vivo_ photoacoustic molecular imaging with simultaneous multiple selective targeting using antibody-conjugated gold nanorods

    Get PDF
The use of gold nanorods for photoacoustic molecular imaging in vivo with simultaneous multiple selective targeting is reported. The extravasation of multiple molecular probes is demonstrated, and used to probe molecular information of cancer cells. This technique allows molecular profiles representing tumor characteristics to be obtained and a heterogeneous population of cancer cells in a lesion to be determined. The results also show that the image contrast can be enhanced by using a mixture of different molecular probes. In this study, HER2, EGFR, and CXCR4 were chosen as the primary target molecules for examining two types of cancer cells, OECM1 and Cal27. OECM1 cells overexpressed HER2 but exhibited a low expression of EGFR, while Cal27 cells showed the opposite expression profile. Single and double targeting resulted in signal enhancements of up to 3 dB and up to 5 dB, respectively, and hence has potential in improving cancer diagnoses

THE FAMILY OWNERSHIP AND FIRM PERFORMANCE IN CHINA:Evidence from Shenzhen Stock Exchange

    Get PDF
The family ownership structure is widespread at present and substantial family corporations exist now all over the world, especially in Asia where a strong sense of family exists. However, whether the family ownership structure can improve company performance is still controversy. To find out how family ownership management structure affects corporations in China is the main objective of this thesis. This thesis investigates why family companies perform different further. The analysis in this paper is conducted by selecting sample from Shenzhen Small and Medium Enterprise Board from 2009 to 2013. Both accounting measures and market measure are used to examine the company performance. In the empirical part, the correlation between family ownership and company performance is demonstrated. Besides, relations between characteristics of family enterprises and company performance are illustrated. The results imply that family ownership structures have positive influences in company governances in China. Family companies perform better than nonfamily companies, which is similar to most prior studies. Further analysis indicates that correlations in family CEOs and family company performances are negative. And family companies, with the multiple large shareholder structure, have worse performance than without it. These two results are opposite to previous empirical studies. However, the ratio of family holdings has no effects on the family company performance. In short, family ownership structure is an efficient management structure in China.fi=Opinnäytetyö kokotekstinä PDF-muodossa.|en=Thesis fulltext in PDF format.|sv=Lärdomsprov tillgängligt som fulltext i PDF-format

Quantum Algebraic Approach to Refined Topological Vertex

We establish the equivalence between the refined topological vertex of Iqbal-Kozcaz-Vafa and a certain representation theory of the quantum algebra of type W_{1+infty} introduced by Miki. Our construction involves trivalent intertwining operators Phi and Phi^* associated with triples of the bosonic Fock modules. Resembling the topological vertex, a triple of vectors in Z^2 is attached to each intertwining operator, which satisfy the Calabi-Yau and smoothness conditions. It is shown that certain matrix elements of Phi and Phi^* give the refined topological vertex C_{lambda mu nu}(t,q) of Iqbal-Kozcaz-Vafa. With another choice of basis, we recover the refined topological vertex C_{lambda mu}^nu(q,t) of Awata-Kanno. The gluing factors appears correctly when we consider any compositions of Phi and Phi^*. The spectral parameters attached to Fock spaces play the role of the K"ahler parameters.Comment: 27 page
