Bipolar Charge Plasma Transistor: A Novel Three Terminal Device

A distinctive approach for forming a lateral Bipolar Charge Plasma Transistor (BCPT) is explored using 2-D simulations. Different metal work-function electrodes are used to induce n- and p-type charge plasma layers on undoped SOI to form the emitter, base and collector regions of a lateral NPN transistor. Electrical characteristics of the proposed device are simulated and compared with that of a conventionally doped lateral bipolar junction transistor with identical dimensions. Our simulation results demonstrate that the BCPT concept will help us realize a superior bipolar transistor in terms of a high current gain compared to a conventional BJT. This BCPT concept is suitable in overcoming doping issues such as dopant activation and high-thermal budgets which are serious issues in ultra thin SOI structures

    Get PDF
This qualitative paper examines the strategic thinking and managing change in complex business environment in the hospitality and tourism sector of the UK through the cases of Hilton London Canary Wharf and Hilton London Tower Bridge. For the purpose of analysis, researchers explored the research phenomenon under different models including TALC model and IBTEE Model. Using convenience sampling, researchers interviewed face-to-face 12 Line Managers and 30 employees through open-ended semi-structured interview questions regarding change management process and obstacles interlinked with it. Findings revealed that although Hilton hotels have adapted changes to some extent but there is still more room for further improvement. The management of the selected hotels highly relies on the training purpose for the effective change adaption whereas coaching and research is lagging behind. The biggest constraint during effective change adaption is the diverse background of the workforce as most are from the multicultural backgrounds. Moreover, the communication, ritual, and cultural barriers are causing issues in the change process. Lastly, the recommendations are given for consolidating effective change management at workplace

    Get PDF
This study is grounded in the theoretical frameworks of social constructivism theory and language acquisition theory, focusing on Thai grammar teaching in higher vocational colleges. It aims to explore the effectiveness of the task-based language teaching (TBLT) method and its impact on students' learning interests and Thai language skills, providing theoretical support and practical guidance for applying this teaching approach in Thai language teaching. The research conducted a questionnaire survey and test assessments. The sample consists of 223 students from four classes of Thai language majors in their second year at Yunnan Z College. The data analysis showed good reliability and validity of the questionnaire. The intrinsic connections among the acceptance of the task-based language teaching method, learning interest, and Thai language skills were revealed through difference, correlation, and factor analysis. The research results indicate that students with a high acceptance of the task-based language teaching method have significantly higher learning interest and Thai language skill levels. Moreover, the acceptance of the task-based language teaching method is significantly positively correlated with learning interest and Thai language skills, and it has a significant positive predictive effect on both. Based on this, the study suggests that schools should incorporate the task-based language teaching method into the design of Thai language courses, stimulating students' learning interest and language application ability by enhancing their understanding of it

Tracking Control Design for Quadrotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

    Get PDF
The model of a quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is nonlinear and dynamically unstable. A flight controller design is proposed on the basis of Lyapunov stability theory which guarantees that all the states remain and reach on the sliding surfaces. The control strategy uses sliding mode with a backstepping control to perform the position and attitude tracking control. This proposed controller is simple and effectively enhance the performance of quadrotor UAV. In order to demonstrate the robustness of the proposed control method, White Gaussian Noise and aerodynamic moment disturbances are taken into account. The performance of the nonlinear control method is evaluated by comparing the performance with developed linear quadratic regulator and existing backstepping control technique and proportional-integral-derivative from the literature. The comparative performance results demonstrate the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed control strategy for the quadrotor UAV

Preliminary genetic evidence of two different populations of Opisthorchis viverrini in Lao PDR

    Get PDF
Opisthorchis viverrini is a major public health concern in Southeast Asia. Various reports have suggested that this parasite may represent a species complex, with genetic structure in the region perhaps being dictated by geographical factors and different species of intermediate hosts. We used four microsatellite loci to analyze O. viverrini adult worms originating from six species of cyprinid fish in Thailand and Lao PDR. Two distinct O. viverrini populations were observed. In Ban Phai, Thailand, only one subgroup occurred, hosted by two different fish species. Both subgroups occurred in fish from That Luang, Lao PDR, but were represented to very different degrees among the fish hosts there. Our data suggest that, although geographical separation is more important than fish host specificity in influencing genetic structure, it is possible that two species of Opisthorchis, with little interbreeding, are present near Vientiane in Lao PDR

Background: Himachal Pradesh is an endemic area for scrub typhus. If not treated early, it can lead to life threatening complications, affecting various systems of the body. Hence, this study was done with an objective to study the cardiovascular abnormalities in patients of severe scrub typhus. Methods: Authors conducted a hospital-based study in Departments of Medicine and Cardiology, of a tertiary care hospital in Sub-himalayan region in patients of severe scrub typhus from June 2016 to May 2017.Results: Thirty-two (55%) patients were aged <60 years with female preponderance (72%).   Electrocardiographic changes included sinus tachycardia in 56 (97%), axis deviation in 5(9%), ST-T changes in 3(5%) and atrial fibrillation in 1(2%). Echocardiographic changes included tricuspid regurgitation in 14(24%), pericardial effusion in 4(7%), myocarditis in 1(2%) and Regional wall motion abnormality in 1(2%). Left ventricular ejection fraction >45% in 47 (81%) and <45% in 11(19%).  Fifty-one patients had hypotension at presentation and 49 (90%) of them improved. Interestingly, 10 of 11 patients with reduced EF (<45%) survived whereas 6 of total 7 patients, who died, had preserved EF (>45 %).Conclusions: Severe scrub typhus manifested with ST/T changes, myocarditis, pericardial effusion, arrhythmias, shock and patients with reduced EF on Echocardiography had better outcome

Mitigation of hazards and risks of emerging pollutants through innovative treatment techniques of post methanated distillery effluent - A review

    Get PDF
Distillery wastewater has high biological and chemical oxygen demand and requires additional treatment before it can be safely discharged into receiving water. It is usually processed through a biomethanation digester and the end product is the post-methanated distillery effluent (PMDE). Research have shown that PMDE released by molasses-based distilleries is a hazardous effluent that can cause harm to the biota and the environment; it contains elevated amount of total dissolved solids (TDS), total suspended solids (TSS) and excess levels of persistent organic compounds (POPs), heavy metals, phenolic compounds, and salts. The practice of wastewater reuse for irrigation in many water scarce countries necessitates the proper treatment of PMDE before it is discharged into receiving water. Convention methods have been in practice for decades, but innovative technologies are needed to enhance the efficiency of PMDE treatment. Advance physical treatment such as membrane separation technology using graphene, ion-exchange and ultrafiltration membranes; chemical treatment such as advanced oxidation methods, electrocoagulation and photocatalytic technologies; biological treatment such as microbial and enzymatic treatment; and hybrid treatment such as microbial-fuel cell (MFC), genetically modified organisms (GMO) and constructed wetland technologies, are promising new methods to improve the quality of PMDE. This review provides insight into current accomplishments evaluates their suitability and discusses future developments in the detoxification of PMDE. The consolidated knowledge will help to develop a better management for the safe disposal and the reuse of PMDE wastewater
