Preeclampsia is emerging as a serious, threatening problem during pregnancy and puerperium. Stroke which is a neurological emergency is becoming a distressing debilitating reason for the disability and morbidity among reproductive age group women.Across the globe, studies have delineated the fact that women are at a higher risk for developing stroke in comparison with men as well as higher mortality rates. Most strokes occurring in relation to pregnancy, either manifest during labor and delivery or in the puerperium phase. In this article we outline the importance in understanding the correlation between preeclampsia and stroke, the inter relational factors favoring its development and the positive effects of diagnosing the etiological factor at an earlier stage with good diagnostic modalities and treating accordingly in a timely manner with an individualized approach, taking into consideration the possible side effects without compromising the maternal and fetal health which is of prime importance

The brain does not work in a fixed state and it has no fixed memory or intelligence that is present from birth. It is in a constant state of fluctuation. The positives and negatives can be clearly determined regarding a situation with increased insight when our mind is at peace. One of the probable reasons for the increase in cognitive disorders is extreme pressure, stress or shock. In this article, we bring about the effective and scientifically proven methodologies with which the physical and psychological well-being can be improved. This not only brings about betterment within ourselves but also directs our personal and professional life towards achieving the goals as per our wishes. &nbsp

Spontaneous Spinal Epidural Hematoma: A Concise Review

    Get PDF
Spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma (SSEH) is an entity of rarity. It usually has an acute onset presenting to the emergency department with profound neurological deficits. From the term we infer that the blood accumulating in the spinal column is not due to any traumatic cause.During the episode of spontaneous bleeding, there is a positive correlation with increase in the pressures of the epidural space. Replacing myelography and CT scan, MRI has earned the name for being the gold standard for the diagnosis of SSEH. In case of an individual without any classical explanation for developing sudden neurological deficits with excruciating painful symptoms, SSEH should be kept in mind as a potential differential diagnosis. If SSEH is suspected, MRI should be done which is the diagnostic modality of choice.Surgical evacuation of the hematoma and decompression with laminectomy are considered to be the ideal procedures to be performed following the diagnosis.Since SSEH is a dreaded problem causing rapid deterioration it is highly advised to take up the patient for a detailed diagnosis and timely interventional procedures even though the clinical symptomatology remains to be highly unique in different individuals. In this article, we discuss from the literature, the etiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment protocols and prognostic factors regarding SSEH, a disease of low incidence yet a high mortality, demanding a detailed discussion and awareness among the medical professionals. &nbsp

Effect of Leaf Extract of Carica Papaya Gel as Local Drug Delivery in Periodontitis Subjects

    Get PDF
Introduction: The destruction of tooth supporting structures as a result of an inflammatory host response is the characteristic of periodontitis. Mechanical plaque management techniques like non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) is crucial for preventing these diseases. Carica Papaya leaves are rich in nutrients and vitamins and possess antibacterial, anti-fungal, properties and can be used as a reasonably safe alternative to synthetic pharmaceuticals. Objectives: To evaluate, compare and correlate the clinical parameters at baseline and 21st day after non-surgical periodontal therapy alone and after placement of Carica Papaya gel. Methodology: A total of 50 subjects with chronic periodontitis were selected and randomly divided into 2 groups. Group A, Non-surgical periodontal therapy alone (25), Group B, Non-surgical periodontal therapy followed by local drug delivery with Carica Papaya gel at selected sites (25). Gingival index, Plaque index, Bleeding on probing, Pocket depth, Clinical attachment level were recorded at baseline and 21st day. Results: A statistical reduction in the clinical parameters was seen in both the groups. But comparatively Carica Papaya leaf extract gel showed more reduction in BOP, Inflammation and Probing depth when compared with group A. Conclusion: Carica papaya gel in the form of LDD have demonstrated the efficacy and safety as adjunct products to non-surgical periodontal therapy, with notable improvements in the clinical outcomes which are attributed to their anti-inflammatory property. Hence, Carica papaya gel can be used as a promising therapeutic agent

Cloud Based Framework for Autism Spectrum Disorder Therapy App

In the current era of connected devices like smart phones, the demand for data storage is increasing drastically for some set of applications involving multiuser. We require a centralized storage system where data can be accessed from any part of the world using various devices like mobiles and tabs. The cloud provides services for storing data on remote servers which can be accessed through the Internet. It is maintained, operated and managed by a cloud storage service provider on storage servers that are built on virtualization techniques and has large computational power compared to the mobile devices. The paper presented here proposes a cloud based framework for the application “AshaDeep” which was developed to provide technological support for autistic children. This mobile application generates huge number of images and data in a multiuser environment as a part of learning and evaluation activity. In this app we aim to unite multiple users by developing a common platform to track the progress of the autism children and combat autism

Role of Rasayana in Geriatric Care - A Review

    Get PDF
The growth of any country or society depends on the number of youth dwelling in that country but according to recent statistical data we soon will have older people more than children and more people at extreme old age than ever before. The number of people aged 65 or older is projected to grow from an estimated 524 million in 2010 to nearly 1.5 billion in 2050. Geriatrics (Jarachikitsa) is the branch of medicine dealing exclusively with the problems of aging and the diseases of elderly. The term Rasayana (rejuvination) refers to nourishment or nutrition. Rasayana therapy act essentially on nutrition dynamics and rejuvenate the body on both physical and mental levels. The problems of health due to modernization can be solved by increasing resistance against diseases and psychological improvement by implementing Rasayana therapy. Aging (Jara) is one among the Swabhavika Vyadhis. Jara Chikitsa is one among the Astanga of Ayurveda which is specifically dedicated for geriatric care. As per estimation, India currently has around 75 million persons over 65 years. By proper administration of Rasayana therapy as preventive tool one can delay Jara Janita Vyadhis to occur. This paper highlights the role of Rasayana in geriatric care

Advanced glycoxidation and lipoxidation end products (AGEs and ALEs): an overview of their mechanisms of formation

    Get PDF
Advanced lipoxidation end products (ALEs) and advanced glycation end products (AGEs) have a pathogenetic role in the development and progression of different oxidative-based diseases including diabetes, atherosclerosis, and neurological disorders. AGEs and ALEs represent a quite complex class of compounds that are formed by different mechanisms, by heterogeneous precursors and that can be formed either exogenously or endogenously. There is a wide interest in AGEs and ALEs involving different aspects of research which are essentially focused on set-up and application of analytical strategies (1) to identify, characterize, and quantify AGEs and ALEs in different pathophysiological conditions ; (2) to elucidate the molecular basis of their biological effects ; and (3) to discover compounds able to inhibit AGEs/ALEs damaging effects not only as biological tools aimed at validating AGEs/ALEs as drug target, but also as promising drugs. All the above-mentioned research stages require a clear picture of the chemical formation of AGEs/ALEs but this is not simple, due to the complex and heterogeneous pathways, involving different precursors and mechanisms. In view of this intricate scenario, the aim of the present review is to group the main AGEs and ALEs and to describe, for each of them, the precursors and mechanisms of formation
