Metastable Vacua in Superconformal SQCD-like Theories
We study dynamical supersymmetry breaking in vector-like superconformal N=1
gauge theories. We find appropriate deformations of the superpotential to
overcome the problem of the instability of the non supersymmetric vacuum. The
request for long lifetime translates into constraints on the physical couplings

How two-dimensional brick layer J-aggregates differ from linear ones: Excitonic properties and line broadening mechanisms
We study the excitonic coupling and homogeneous spectral line width of brick layer J-aggregate films. We begin by analysing the structural information revealed by the two-exciton states probed in two-dimensional spectra. Our first main result is that the relation between the excitonic couplings and the spectral shift in a two-dimensional structure is different (larger shift for the same nearest neighbour coupling) from that in a one-dimensional structure, which leads to an estimation of dipolar coupling in two-dimensional lattices. We next investigate the mechanisms of homogeneous broadening - population relaxation and pure dephasing - and evaluate their relative importance in linear and two-dimensional aggregates. Our second main result is that pure dephasing dominates the line width in two-dimensional systems up to a crossover temperature, which explains the linear temperature dependence of the homogeneous line width. This is directly related to the decreased density of states at the band edge when compared with linear aggregates, thus reducing the contribution of population relaxation to dephasing. Pump-probe experiments are suggested to directly measure the lifetime of the bright state and can therefore support the proposed model
Decays of metastable vacua in SQCD
The decay rates of metastable SQCD vacua in ISS-type models, both towards
supersymmetric vacua as well as towards other nonsupersymmetric configurations
arising in theories with elementary spectators, are estimated numerically in
the semiclassical approximation by computing the corresponding multifield
bounce configurations. The scaling of the bounce action with respect to the
most relevant dimensionless couplings and ratios of scales is analyzed. In the
case of the decays towards the susy vacua generated by nonperturbative effects,
the results confirm previous analytical estimations of this scaling, obtained
by assuming a triangular potential barrier. The decay rates towards susy vacua
generated by R-symmetry breaking interactions turn out to be more than
sufficiently suppressed for the phenomenologically relevant parameter range,
and their behavior in this regime differs from analytic estimations valid for
parametrically small scale ratios. It is also shown that in models with
spectator fields, even though the decays towards vacua involving nonzero
spectator VEVs don't have a strong parametric dependence on the scale ratios,
the ISS vacuum can still be made long-lived in the presence of R-symmetry

Spontaneous Parity Violation in SUSY Strong Gauge Theory
We suggest simple models of spontaneous parity violation in supersymmetric
strong gauge theory. We focus on left-right symmetric model and investigate
vacuum with spontaneous parity violation. Non-perturbative effects are
calculable in supersymmetric gauge theory, and we suggest two new models. The
first model shows confinement, and the second model has a dual description of
the theory. The left-right symmetry breaking and electroweak symmetry breaking
are simultaneously occurred with the suitable energy scale hierarchy. The
second model also induces spontaneous supersymmetry breaking.Comment: 14 page
Holographic metastability
We show how supersymmetric QCD in a slice of AdS can naturally acquire
metastable vacua. The formulation closely follows that of Intriligator, Seiberg
and Shih (ISS), with an "electric" sector on the UV brane and a "magnetic"
sector on the IR brane. However the 't Hooft anomaly matching that constrains
the Seiberg duality central to ISS is replaced by anomaly inflow and
cancellation, and the source of strong coupling is the CFT to which the theory
couples rather than the gauge groups. The theory contains an anomaly free
R-symmetry that, when broken by UV effects, leads to an O'Raifeartaigh model on
the IR brane. In contrast to ISS, the R-symmetry breaking in the UV can be
maximal, and yet the R-symmetry breaking in the IR theory remains under strict
control: there is no need for retrofitting of small parameters.Comment: 20 pages, 2 figure

Work relations and the multiple dimensions of the work-life boundary: Hairstyling at home
This article proposes a multidimensional approach to analysis of the work-life boundary and examines the affects of particular social and organizational relations on the preservation or porous-ness of different dimensions. In line with Nippert-Eng (1996), it is suggested that different dimensions of the boundary are reinforced or weakened by different social and organizational pressures. Analysis describes a specific type of multidimensional breaching – instances when work is taken outside of the worksite (spatial breaching) and is carried out outside of work-time (temporal breaching). Empirical research was conducted among hairstylists working in salons and barbershops in a city in the North of England. Because of the nature of the tasks involved in hairstyling – that the skills involved are widely exchangeable and so may be employed in extra-work environments and temporalities – hairstylists provide a nice site for investigating the circumstances when this does (or does not) occur. Data collection involved a comprehensive self-completion survey of salons and barbershops in the city (response rate: 40%; N=132) and semi-structured interviews with 70 stylists working in 52 salons or barbershops. Findings demonstrate that work relations (hairstylists’ structural relations of production – whether a worker is an owner-proprietor, chair-renter, on-commission stylist, basic-only stylist, or trainee) are critical in determining both workers’ ability and desire to resist the seepage of work into their social lives as well as the particular dimensions of the boundary that are breached. This is because work relations affect the relative importance of four identified motivations for taking work out of the salon (income production; training; inter-personal reciprocity rooted in social relations; and inter-personal reciprocity rooted in the workplace)
Superconformal Flavor Simplified
A simple explanation of the flavor hierarchies can arise if matter fields
interact with a conformal sector and different generations have different
anomalous dimensions under the CFT. However, in the original study by Nelson
and Strassler many supersymmetric models of this type were considered to be
'incalculable' because the R-charges were not sufficiently constrained by the
superpotential. We point out that nearly all such models are calculable with
the use of a-maximization. Utilizing this, we construct the simplest
vector-like flavor models and discuss their viability. A significant constraint
on these models comes from requiring that the visible gauge couplings remain
perturbative throughout the conformal window needed to generate the
hierarchies. However, we find that there is a small class of simple flavor

Bounds on 4D Conformal and Superconformal Field Theories
We derive general bounds on operator dimensions, central charges, and OPE
coefficients in 4D conformal and N=1 superconformal field theories. In any CFT
containing a scalar primary phi of dimension d we show that crossing symmetry
of implies a completely general lower bound on the central
charge c >= f_c(d). Similarly, in CFTs containing a complex scalar charged
under global symmetries, we bound a combination of symmetry current two-point
function coefficients tau^{IJ} and flavor charges. We extend these bounds to
N=1 superconformal theories by deriving the superconformal block expansions for
four-point functions of a chiral superfield Phi and its conjugate. In this case
we derive bounds on the OPE coefficients of scalar operators appearing in the
Phi x Phi* OPE, and show that there is an upper bound on the dimension of Phi*
Phi when dim(Phi) is close to 1. We also present even more stringent bounds on
c and tau^{IJ}. In supersymmetric gauge theories believed to flow to
superconformal fixed points one can use anomaly matching to explicitly check
