Recoil effects on nucleon electromagnetic form factors

The electromagnetic form factors are computed using eigenstates of linear momentum for the nucleon. The latter is described in the framework of the chiral color-dielectric model, projecting the hedgehog ansatz on eigenstates of angular momentum and isospin. Form factors are well reproduced, with the exception of the magnetic one for the proton, up to $q^2 \simeq 0.5$ GeV$^2$. The effect of the removal of the spurious center-of-mass contributions shows up mainly in the electric form factor of the proton. A noticeable improvement is obtained with respect to the calculation without linear momentum projection.Comment: LateX file (with ESPART.STY) + 4 postscript figure

A partir de la lectura de ciertos fragmentos de Goethe y de Freud se rastrea el concepto de sublimación, interrogándose por las relaciones de reciprocidad entre ambos. Palabras clave: sublimación, Goethe, Freud, límite, lenguaje.The concept of sublimation, rather than enrolling itself in a unique and exclusive discursive territory, traverses different disciplinary practices, including literature and psychoanalysis. Hence, this study traces the concept of sublimation through the lecture of certain passages of Goethe and Freud, questioning the relationships of reciprocity between them. Indexación: Web of Science; ScieloEl trabajo presente aborda, desde un punto de vista multidisciplinario, la obra literaria de la escritora brasilera Clarice Lispector, titulada Un soplo de vida, pulsaciones . Su propósito consiste en poner a dialogar la literatura y el psicoanálisis, sin suponer la primacía de una práctica discursiva sobre otra. La lectura en cuestión está guiada por la hipótesis de que es posible desprender del texto cierta concepción de sujeto, que emerge como resultado del atravesamiento del lenguaje conceptualizado por Jacques Lacan, vinculada estrechamente con la determinación significante. Al situarse más allá de las investigaciones psicobiográficas clásicas, se entreabre una vía productiva para la discusión transversal, convocando un repertorio conceptual heterogéneo y plural.The present paper approaches, from a multidisciplinary perspective, to the literary ceuvre of the Brazilian writer Clarice Lispector, entitled Un soplo de vida, pulsaciones. Its purpose is to establish a dialogue between literature and psychoanalysis, without assuming the primacy of one discursive practice over another. The reading in question is guided by the assumption that the text can it is possible to detach certain conception of subject, closely linked to the significant determination, which emerges as a result of the traversing by language conceptualized by Jacques Lacan. Placing itself beyond the classical psychobiographical research, it opens a productive avenue for the transversal discussion, convening a diverse and plural conceptual repertoire.http://ref.scielo.org/9gjcf

Fracture mechanics approach to design analysis of notches, steps and internal cut-outs in planar components

A new approach to the assessment and optimization of geometric stress-concentrating features is proposed on the basis of the correspondence between sharp crack or corner stressfield intensity factors and conventional elastic stress concentration factors (SCFs) for radiused transitions. This approach complements the application of finite element analysis (FEA) and the use of standard SCF data from the literature. The method makes it possible to develop closed-form solutions for SCFs in cases where corresponding solutions for the sharp crack geometries exist. This is helpful in the context of design optimization. The analytical basis of the correspondence is shown, together with the limits on applicability where stress-free boundaries near the stress concentrating feature are present or adjacent features interact. Examples are given which compare parametric results derived from FEA with closed-form solutions based on the proposed method. New information is given on the stress state at a 90° corner or width step, where the magnitude of the stress field intensity is related to that of the corresponding crack geometry. This correspondence enables the user to extend further the application of crack-tip stress-field intensity information to square-cornered steps, external U-grooves, and internal cut-outs

How Preussag became TUI : kissing too many toads can make you a toad

In the period 1997-2004, Preussag, a diversified German conglomerate of old economy businesses, changed itself into TUI, a company focused almost entirely on tourism and logistics. This paper analyzes how this strategy was executed and how it contributed to Preussag’s underperformance of the stock market. We collect 417 announcements of acquisitions, financial disclosures and other news and disentangle the impact of different parts of the company’s strategy. We find that only the divestitures created value, that the strategy to invest in tourism destroyed value, and that the acquisition premiums Preussag paid were mostly unjustified. Bad luck like the events of September 11, 2001 cannot account for the poor performance of the stock. Poor management resulted from poor governance, combining a state-owned bank as the largest shareholder, board interlocks, and insufficient managerial incentives. The case shows how divestiture programs increase the liquid resources available to management beyond free operating cash flows and casts doubt on the positive governance role of institutional blockholders

Die unten folgende Stellungnahme wurde dem Herausgeber der Zeitschrift für deutsches Altertum und deutsche Literatur angeboten, um eine Reihe von gravierenden Missverständnissen eines Rezensenten (Jürgen Schulz-Grobert) auszuräumen, die dieser in seiner Besprechung des zweiten Bandes der Sämtlichen Werke Johann Fischarts der Fachwelt gegenüber erkennen ließ. Der Herausgeber der Zeitschrift verweigerte sich einer Diskussion und lehnte den Abdruck unserer Entgegnung ab. Dies ist umso bedauerlicher, als uns der Rezensent den Vorwurf gemacht hat, unsere "Diskussionsbereitschaft [...] [sei] auch in anderen entscheidenden Fragen ausgesprochen begrenzt", was immer er damit meint
